  • In order to design a touch interface for the elderly, human performance of input tasks on the touch screen was investigated by the laboratory experiment. Input times and input errors were measured in the experimental conditions that were changed according to age, key size, interkey space and input tool(finger or stylus pen). In the most of all experimental conditions, the task performance of the elderly was lower than that of the young. However, there were significantly different performance patterns between both groups. As the difficulty of task was getting higher, the task performance of the elderly was sharply decreased; pressing small key button by finger sharply increased input time and error rate, compared to that of the young. Therefore, the square key size suitable to the elderly may be over $8.0{\times}8.0mm$. While the interkey space did not influence to the input task performance of the young, the task performance of the elderly was influenced. The elderly showed big difference of task performance according to input tool. However, the young were less influenced by input tool.

  • It is a recent trend to utilize a variety of visual tools(process map, mindmap, ERD) to create, when we create the design of information system or business models. Theses visual tool is standardized tools as process map or BPMN, on the other hand, there is also a non-standardized tools as mindmap. The utilization of the non-standardized tools as mindmap in startups is a increasing trend, because of the order the release of creative thinking to design new business model. Mindmaps can be divided into pen-based mindmap(of hand-written) and computer-based mindmap. This study was conducted under the premise of a different thinking pattern, when you take advantage of pen-based mindmap and computer-based mindmap. In other words, the pen-based mindmap is a tool for deductive reasoning and the computer-based mindmap is a tool would be more appropriate for inductive thinking. The purpose of this study is to investigate these relationships through experiments. In this study propose guidelines how visual tools, when designing a social media business models.

  • This study deals with the optimal design of mobile access network connecting base stations(BSs) and mobile switching centers(MSCs). Generally mobile operators constitute their access networks by leasing communication lines. Using the characteristic of leased line rate based on administration region, we build an optimization model for mobile access network design which has much smaller number of variables than the existing researches. And we develop a GUI based optimization tool integrating the well-known softwares such as MS EXCEL. MS VisualBasic, MS PowerPoint and Ip_solve, a freeware optimization software. Employing the current access network configuration of a Korean mobile carrier, this study using the optimization tool obtain an optimal solution for both single MSC access network and nation-wide access network. Each optimal access network achieves 7.45% and 9.49% save of lease rate, respectively. Considering the monthly charge and total amount of lease line rate, our optimization tool provides big amount of save in network operation cost. Besides the graphical representation of access networks makes the operator easily understand and compare current and optimal access networks.

  • Purpose: This study started with the question of how to use Virtual Reality (VR) contents as a part of the non-face-to-face education tool that has recently attracted attention. Methods: In this paper, the use of VR contents as an educational tool is explained as a process of 'new media access dimension'. The question was explored on why Virtual Reality (or Augmented Reality) contents are not used as educational tools in the educational field. Results: As a result, the lack of 'material access' such as devices and infrastructure affects 'motivational access' approach stage, which is the previous stage. Again, it has a negative effect on literacy, which is 'skill access' approach stage. As it was found that it was not circulating to the level of "motive-material-skill-usage", it was discussed that it was taking a different step from the past adoption process of ICT and smart media. Conclusion: Based on this, it is believed that immersive content will contribute to arousing interest that can be applied and spread in the educational field, and it is also thought that it will be possible to derive academic interest in the educational effect according to the characteristics of immersive content such as VR.

  • Nowadays, it is convenient to use 3D modeling tools for general planning before construction. Normally, a 3D model is built with 3D CAD such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, etc. or simply with AutoCAD. All these software packages are effective in building 3D models but difficult to use, because many provided functions and tools require prior knowledge to build both 2D and 3D designs. Moreover, the traditional method of building 3D models is most time-consuming as experienced operators and manual input are required. Therefore, how to minimize the building time of 3D models and provide easy-to-use functions for users who are not familiar with 3D modeling becomes important. In this paper, the VisualLISP programming language is used to create a convenient tool for efficient generation of 3D components for the AutoCAD environment. This tool will be demonstrated with the generation of a 3D sluice, an artificial passage for water fitted with a valve or gate to stop or regulate water flow. With the tool, users only need to enter the parameters of a sluice in the edit box and the 3D model will be automatically generated in a few seconds. By changing parameters in the edit box and pressing the "OK" button, a new 3D sluice model will be generated in a short while.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate hand-arm vibration (HAV) exposure levels due to the use of power hand tools and to evaluate the determinants in the automobile assembly process. Methods: The exposure level to HAV was evaluated for 30 work lines in five assembly processes (body, engine, chassis, door, and design) that use air-powered tools and battery-powered tools and operate in circulation for two hours. The 2-hr equivalent energy vibration acceleration, A (2), of the task was measured. The 8-hr equivalent energy vibration acceleration, A (8), was estimated in consideration of the number of tasks that can be performed per day by each process. In addition, a survey on the working environment was conducted with workers exposed to vibration. Results: The geometric mean of the HAV exposure level, A (2), for a total of 30 tasks was 2.51 m/s2, and one case was 10.30 m/s2, exceeding TLV (2hr). The HAV exposure level of A (8) was evaluated from 1.03 m/s2 to 5.36 m/s2. A (2) showed a statistically significant difference (P<0.01) for each process, and the chassis process (GM=3.90 m/s2) was the highest. The larger the tool size and the longer the tool length, the higher was the vibration acceleration when using a battery-powered tool than an air-powered tool (P<0.01). Battery-powered tool users showed higher dissatisfaction on all items than did air-powered tool users. Conclusions: As a result of this study, it is necessary to implement a program to reduce the HAV exposure levels.

  • In this paper, we suggest the GUI Management Tool, named K-Manager, for management and service of science and technology information that stored in distributed retrieval databases. Generally, it must be adapted retrieval database system for web based S&T contents service. But, It is inconvenient contents manager or the system administrator controls information easily, because it does not support the S&T information management process like TOAD, which can use for the relation database, in information retrieval database system. Using K-Manager, content manager can process the S&T content and system manager can manage the databases easily. The proposed tool active controls information effectively which is stored in the distributed retrieval database which guarantee the safety management of the contents stored in database and operate retrieval with efficient performances. Our tool consists of two sub systems, one is content manager, the other is database manager for YESKISTI based on KRISTAL-IRMS.

  • Studies of the causes of cancer, early detection, prevention or treatment need accurate, comprehensive, and timely cancer data. The clinical laboratory provides important cancer information needed for physicians which influence clinical decisions regarding treatment, diagnosis and patient monitoring. Poor communication between health care providers and clinical laboratory personnel can lead to medical errors and wrong decisions in providing cancer care. Because of the key impact of laboratory information on cancer diagnosis and treatment the quality of the tests, lab reports, and appropriate lab management are very important. A laboratory information management system (LIMS) can have an important role in diagnosis, fast and effective access to cancer data, decrease redundancy and costs, and facilitate the integration and collection of data from different types of instruments and systems. In spite of significant advantages LIMS is limited by factors such as problems in adaption to new instruments that may change existing work processes. Applications of intelligent software simultaneously with existing information systems, in addition to remove these restrictions, have important benefits including adding additional non-laboratory-generated information to the reports, facilitating decision making, and improving quality and productivity of cancer care services. Laboratory systems must have flexibility to change and have the capability to develop and benefit from intelligent devices. Intelligent laboratory information management systems need to benefit from informatics tools and latest technologies like open sources. The aim of this commentary is to survey application, opportunities and necessity of intelligent clinical laboratory as a tool to increase cancer care management productivity.
