Increasing demands on precision machining of 3D free-form surface have necessitated the tool smoothly varying feedrates. This paper presents on of algorithm for adaptive feedrate on NURBS curve. Since the algorithm for calculating variable feedrate depends on the curvature of curve, it permits to get constant material tool can be protected un terms of tool chipping vibration, etc.
Pocket machining is metal removal operation commonly used for creating depressions in machined parts. Numerically controlled milling is the primary means for machining complex die surface. These complex surfaces are generated by a milling cutter which removes material as it traces out pre-specified tool paths. To machine, a component on a CNC machine, part programs which define the cutting tool path are needed. This tool path is usually planned from CAD, and converted to a CAM machine input format. In this paper I proposed a new method for generating NC tool paths. This method generates automatically NC tool paths with dynamic elimination of machining errors in 2$\frac{1}{2}$ arbitrary shaped pockets. This paper generates a spiral-like tool path by dynamic computing optimal pocket of the pocket boundary contour based on the type and size of the milling cutter, the geometry of the pocket contour and surface finish tolerance requirements. This part programming system is PC based and simultaneously generates a G-code file.
Characteristics of AE(Acoustic Emission) signal is related to cutting conditions, tool materials, and tool geometry in metal cutting. Relation between AE signal and tool wear was investigated experimentally. Experiment is carried out by interrupted cutting for SCM420 workpiece with TiN coating tool on HSS material. AE RMS voltage and count per event were increased according to tool wear. The major results are as follows : 1) AE RMS value is nearly constant as cutting speed changes, but is rapidly increase as feed rate increases. 2) AE RMS value and Count per Event increase as tool wear increases. 3) It is more effective to monitor tool wear by Incremental rate of AE RMS value than by Incremental rate of count per event.
In this study, presintered low purity alumina ceramics were machined with various tools to clarify the effects of the tool material, cutting condition and tool geometry on machinability. The main conclusions obtained were as follows. (a)The wear of tungsten carbide tool becomes smaller with the increase of the feed and clearance angle, and with the decrease of rake angle, especially exhibiting considerably smaller wear with both the decrease of rake angle and the increase of clearance angle. (b) So far as turning the ceramic presintered at low temperature, the diamond tool shows the best performance with higher feed. (c) The effect on the tool wear of the feed, clearance angle and rake angle becomes smaller in turning the ceramic presintered at higher temperature. (d) The tool wear is not severely affected by the depth of cut.
A method for determining the collision-free tool orientation for 5-axis milling is presented. In 5-axis milling, the proper tool orientation as well as the optimal CC-data has to be selected to machine the workpiece efficiently and accurately and accurately. Essentially, the tool orientation should be determined to avoid collisions between the tool and workpiece and to enable efficient machining. In this work, the tool orientation is determined at every CC-point which is assumed to be given. The procedure uses the potential energy method that assumes the tool and the part surfaces are charged with static electricity. This approach can detect can deteat both global and local collisions (gouging) irrespective of the tool shape. Further, in order to increase the machining efficiency, the material removal rate is maximized simultaneously.
A semiconductor production system has sophisticated manufacturing operations and needs high capital investment for its expensive equipment, which warrants efficient real-time flow control for wafers. In the bay, we consider material handling equipment that can handle multiple carriers of wafers. The dispatching logic first determines the transportation time of each carrier to its destination by each unit of transportation equipment and uses this information to determine the destination machine and target carrier. When there is no available buffer space at the machine tool, the logic allows carriers to stay at the buffer of a machine tool and determine the delay time, which is used to determine the destination of carriers in URL. A simulation study shows this dispatching logic performs better than the procedure currently in use to reduce the mean flow time and average WIP of wafers and increase efficiency of material handling equipment.

Machining information such as form accuracy and surface roughness is an important factor for manufacturing precise parts. To this regard, OMM (On the Machine Measurement) has been researched for last several decades to alternate CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) process. In this research, the OMM system with a laser displacement sensor was developed for measuring form accuracy and surface roughness of the machined workpiece on the machine tool. The surface roughness was estimated comparing the sensory signal with the reference data measured from master specimen. Also, form accuracy was determined from the moving averaged raw data. In addition, the geometric error map constructed beforehand using the geometric errors of the machine tool was used to compensate the obtained form accuracy. The overall performance was compared with CMM result, and verified the feasibility of the measurement system.
Hard facing overlay welding in high chromium carbide is a representative way of extending the fatigue life or recompensing damage, because workpiece surface is uniformly overlay-welded by alloy material. In general, grinding process is currently used for finish due to hardness of weld material. The development of tool material, such as PCBN, has made it possible to use turning instead of grinding. There are many advantages of hard Owning, as lower equipment costs, shorter setup time, fewer process steps, higher material removal rate, better surface integrity and the elimination of cutting fluid. In this paper, machining characteristics and cutting performance are examined to investigate turning possibility of overly welding in high chromium carbide.
The Inconel 718 alloy is a well-known super-heat-resistant alloy and a difficult-to-cut material. Inconel 718 with excellent corrosion and heat resistance is used in harsh environments. However, the heat generated is not released owing to excellent physical properties, making processes (e.g., adhesion and thermal fatigue) difficult. Tool condition monitoring in machining is significant in reducing manufacturing costs. The cutting tool is easily broken and worn because of the material properties of Inconel 718. Therefore, tool management is required to improve tool life and machinability. This study proposes a method of predicting the tool wear with non-contacting sensors (e.g., IR thermometer for measuring the cutting temperature and a microphone for measuring the sound pressure level in machining). The cutting temperature and sound pressure fluctuation according to the tool condition and cutting force are analyzed using experimental data. This experiment verifies the effectiveness of the non-contact measurement signals in tool condition monitoring.
Hot tool steel, in general, has not been used as a material in hot forging. However such a hot tool steel is recently applied to forging materials by recent forging technology. DH32 is known as a kind of hot tool steels, which is developed for characteristics of excellent strength and toughness in high temperature. Feasibility of DH32 to hot forging material has been researched to develop the hot forging technology of a plunger used for a large-sized marine fuel pump. Hot compression experimental works were performed to investigate the hot strain characteristic of DH32 and with the experimental results FE simulations were also conducted for the design of forging processes and preform. It is found out through the hot compression experimental works that DH32 has a hot brittleness at more than $1150^{\circ}C$.
