  • This study was designed to analyze repetitive dorsiflexion and plantarflexion exercises in ankles have effects on the muscle tones of triceps, vastus medialis and gastrocnemius. 25 healthy woman volunteers(ankle dorsiflexion exercise group: 13, ankle plantarflexion exercise group: 12) participated in the two ankle exercise models, which have performed 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Myotonometer was used to measure the muscle tones of the triceps, vastus medialis, gastrocnemius muscles, and measurements were performed before and after the application of the each exercise model. Repeated measured paired t-test and independent t-test was used to determine a statistical significance. The group of repetitive dorsiflexion exercise of the ankle have effects on the muscle tones of triceps, vastus medialis and gastrocnemius (p>.05). The group of repetitive plantarflexion exercise of the ankle have effects on the muscle tones of triceps, vastus medialis and gastrocnemius(p>.05). The groups of repetitive dorsiflexion and plantarflexion exercise of the ankle have effects on the muscle tones of triceps, vastus medialis and gastrocnemius(p>.05).

  • Everything of the world we live in has its own unique color. Those colors move us, enrich our every day life, and make us happy. When we have our hairs dyed by a color we like, we may look different, feeling confident and activated. We select a color fur our hair color design depending on such symbolic aspects as our life styles, self-images or personalities. Namely, we tend to choose a color the image of which we like. Such a tendency implies that it should be important to study hair colors in multi-faceted ways. The purpose of this study was to survey people's preferences of hair color tone images depending on their demographic and physical variables and thereby, determine the correlations between their preferences and variables. For this purpose, hair colors tones were classified into 11 categories and thereby, subjects' preferences of hair tones were analyzed in terms of the image adjective combinations. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; As a result of analyzing subjects' preferences of hair color tones depending on their such demographic variables as gender, age group and marital status, it was found that males tended to prefer dark tones more than females, and that those in their 30's or older tended to select dark tones more than those in their 20's. On the other hand, the married preferred medium bright tones more than the singles. Furthermore, such physical variables as body size, weight and apparel size were found correlated with hair color tone preferences. To be specific, shorter people desired more to have their hair colors match with their natural ones not to be less exposed to others. Lastly, as a result of analyzing the correlation between hair color tone preferences and weight and apparel size, it was found that fat people tended more to prefer medium bright color tones than normal or slim people.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the information and idea that can be applied to color planning by investigating preferred color according to ages, items by distribution of 30s~50s women. As the survey method, questionnaire survey and one-to-one investigation by preparing the color table of basic color and trend color were conducted, and total of 280 questionnaires were used for statistical analysis. The results of this study areas follows. First, in basic color, there were significant differences in preferred hues and tones by age groups. The preferred hues were N, PB in all ages, and the higher the age, the more people preferred vivid tones. Second, in basic color, there was significant difference in preferred hues of jumpers, one-pieces by distribution, and the preferred hue was found to be N in the items except jumpers. There were significant differences in preference tones of all items according to distribution. Third, in trend color, there was no significant difference in preferred hues by age groups. Preferred tones had significant differences by distribution, and the higher the age, the more people preferred vivid tones. Fourth, in trend color, some items had significant differences in preferred hues and tones by distribution. B was preferred in all age groups, and vivid tones were more preferred in wholesaler than the department store. Based on these results, this study proposed 30s~50s women's wear color planning idea that applied consumers' preferred color according to ages and items by distribution.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate experimentally the frequency characteristics of the hole tones generated by a circular jet of low speed impinging on a plate with a round hole. The experimental results about the sound spectrum and the time wave of the hole tone are presented and discussed in relation with the hole type, the jet velocity and the distance of the nozzle-to-plate with a round hole. From the sound spectrum and time wave measurements, it is found that the hole tone is generated not only by an interaction of convected vortices with a round hole but also by a series of vortex shedding from jets passing through a hole. The hole tones generated by a feedback mechanism consist of many frequency stages and also have a hysteresis phenomenon like an edge tone. But the hole tones generated by a series of vortex shedding have nothing with the stage characteristics. The frequencies of hole tones are influenced by the jet velocity, the distance of the nozzle-to-plate with a round hole and the hole type.

  • The aims of this study were to describe the way in which sound durations are perceived, and to attempt to explain the hidden mechanisms of the duration perception in music performances. Three experiments were carried out to determine the difference limen for the perception of sound duration and to find the effects of frequency and intensity on duration discrimination. For short duration tones ranging from 25 to 100 msec, a linear improvement in discrimination judgements was found with increasing duration of signal. The JND was constant for durations between 100 msec and 2 sec. However, for extended stimulus durations (more than 2 sec) the JND was again linearly improved. Subjects were also presented with a pair of stimuli, composed of high and low frequency pure tones, and asked to discriminate differences in duration of the two tones and ignore differences in the frequency of the tones. It was found that subjects perceived the higher frequency to be longer in duration. When an experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of intensity on duration discrimination it was found that a 20 phon difference makes subjects perceive the louder stimulus as longer than the quieter stimulus. Finally, in a performance study, an analysis of musical performances revealed the effect of frequency. It was found that the musicians played the higher notes shorter than the lower notes. This agrees with what was previously found in the work on the perception of tones.

  • The acoustic mode of a perforated tube muffler was investigated both theoretically and experimentally to explain the cavity-tones induced by through-flow. The cutoff frequencies for the axisymmetric modes were obtained and confirmed experimentally. It was found that the cutoff frequencies are decreased significantly by the perforated tube. The onset frequencies of the cavity-tones were compared with the cutoff frequencies of the acoustic mode and it was found that the cavity-tones are induced by the radial acoustic modes and their frequency stages are coincident with the discrete cutoff frequencies.

  • This study compared pitch range, total duration of utterances, pause, boundary tones and mean duration of intonation final syllables of 4 sentences produced by 5 transgenders (male to female) to those of twenty normal adults. Voice analysis was performed by Praat (version 4.049). The results showed that there were differences in pitch range, total duration of utterances, pause, boundary tones and mean duration of intonation final syllables among the 3 groups(transgenders, normal males and normal females).

  • This chapter presents an overview of Korean intonational structure and proposes a revised version of K -ToBI (Korean TOnes and Break Indices), a prosodic transcription convention for Seoul Korean. In the new version of K-ToBI, a tone tier is separated into two tiers: a phonological tone tier and a phonetic tone tier. A phonological tone tier labels tones marking the prosodic structure of an utterance, and a phonetic tone tier labels individual tones of an AP and an IP conforming to the surface pitch contour. Labelling surface tonal patterns will provide us data to test the underlying tonal patterns and to build phonetic implementation rules.

  • Direct numerical simulation results of aeolian tones generated by a two-dimensional obstacle (circular cylinder, square cylinder, NACA0012 airfoil) in a uniform flow are presented and the generation and propagation mechanisms of the sound are discussed. The unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by a highly-accurate finite difference scheme over the entire region from near to far fields. The direct numerical simulation results are also compared with the results obtained by Curle's acoustic analogy.
