  • Compounds of the structure of -4,9-dione are known to have an antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. New kinds of 2-amino-$\alpha$-cyano-$\alpha$-ethoxycarbonyl-niethyl)-1,4-naphthoquino ne was reacted with some alkylamines(methylamine, ethylamine, ethanolarnine, isopropylamine, cyclohexylamine, benzylamine) to yield 2-amino-3-ethoxycarbonyl-N-alkyl-4,9-diones.

  • F. napiforme, F. beomiforme and F. nygamai could not be classified in any of the existing sections of the genus Fusarium. To discuss of the exact taxonomic relationships among these species, the cellular polypeptide patterns were compared by using 2-D PAGE. Polypeptide pattern of F. beomiforme was different from those of other two species and was more similar to F. oxysporum in section Elegans. F. nygamai and F. napiforme might be another same section which would lie between section Liseola and section Elegans. The results were consistent with the comparison of isoenzyme patterns in these species.

  • By developing a computer simulation code for discharge excited KrF excimer laser, we analyzed mainly the effects of buffer gas for the $KrF^*$ formation. the $KrF^*$ relaxation. and the absorption of the laser radiation. The $KrF^*$ formation efficiency were found to be 7.5%, 19% and the $KrF^*$ relaxation kinetic reactions were found to be 45%, 30% at the charging voltage of 30 KV and He. Ne buffer gas. respectively. But the absorption of the 248 nm laser radiation were less than 10% by the buffer gas.er gas.

  • Face-to-face (F2F) bonding in three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D ICs), compared with other bonding styles, is closer to commercialization because of its benefits in terms of density, yield, and cost. However, despite the benefits that F2F bonding expect to provide, it's physical nature has not been studied thoroughly. In this study, we, for the first time, extract cross-die (inter-die) parasitic elements from F2F bonds on the full-chip scale and compare them with the intra-die elements. This allows us to demonstrate the significant impact of field sharing across dies in F2F bonding on full-chip noise and critical path delay values. The baseline method used is the die-by-die method, where the parasitic elements of individual dies are extracted separately and the cross-die parasitic elements are ignored. Compared with this inaccurate method, which was the only method available until now, our first-of-its-kind holistic method corrects the delay error by 25.48% and the noise error by 175%.

  • This experiment were conducted to investigate heterosis and combining ability for several mutant characters by analyzing dialled crosses of flue-cured tobacco. In a dialled cross of 3 flue-cured varieties and the mutant line 83H -5, the heterosis was somewhat higher in Fl than in F2. For growth character, the heterosis was 0.28-6.03% in plant height, leaf number, leaf shape index and yield, and was 43.2% for bacterial wilt disease index. The mutant line 83H-5 showed significantly negative GCA effect for plant height, leaf width and bacterial wilt disease index in Fl and F2, leaf length in F2, and positive GCA effect for total alkaloids, total nitrogen in Fl and days to flower in F2, respectively. Specific combining ability(SCA) in 83H-5 x Hicks was significant in negative effect for leaf length(F2), number of leaves(F2), leaf shape(F1, F2), bacterial wilt(F2) and alkaloids(F1), and in 83H-5 x NC 2326 in positive effect for leaf length(F1, F2) and leaf width(F2), and for 83H-5 x NC 82 in positive effect for plant height(F1, F2) and leaf width(F2), and for 83H-5 x NC 82 in Positive effect for Plant height(F1, F2), leaf length(F2) and yield(F1, F2).

  • Gibberellea fujikuroi species (Gf) complex comprises at least 15 species, most of which not only causes serious plant diseases, but also produces mycotoxins including fumonisins. Here, we focused on the abilities of the field isolates belonging to the Gf complex associated with rice and corn, respectively in Korea to produce fumonisin, all of which were confirmed to carry FUM1, the polyketide synthase gene essential for fumonisin biosynthesis. A total of 88 Gf complex isolates (55 F. fujikuroi, 10 F. verticillioides, 20 F. proliferatum, 2 F. subglutinans, and 1 F. concentricum), and 4 isolates of F. commune, which is a non-member of Gf complex, were grown on rice substrate and determined for their production levels of fumonisins by a HPLC method. Most isolates of F. verticillioides and F. proliferatum, regardless of host origins, produced fumonisin $B_1$ and $B_2$ at diverse ranges of levels ($0.5-2,686.4{\mu}g/g$, and $0.7-1,497.6{\mu}g/g$, respectively). In contrast, all the isolates of F. fujikuroi and other Fusarium species examined produced no fumonisins or only trace amounts ($<10{\mu}g/g$) of fumonisins. Interestingly, the frequencies of relatively high fumonisin-producers among the F. proliferatum and F. fujikuroi isolates derived from corn were higher than those among the fungal isolates from rice. In addition, it is a first report demonstrating the ability of the FUM1-carrying F. commune isolates from rice to produce fumonisins.

  • Enzymatic activities and fluorescence spectroscopic properties of the double mutant proteins P96L/F139W, P96L/F258W and a triple mutant protein P96L/F139W/F258W of tryptophan synthase $\alpha$ subunit from Escherichia coli was examined to study tertiary and local structure changes around the tryptophan residues. The enzymatic activities of P96l./F139W and P96L/F258W were similar, but P96L/F139W/F258W had lower activity, as compared to wild type. The fluorescence intensities of double mutant, P96L/F139W and P96L/F258W, were decreased but that of a triple mutant, P96L/F139W/F258W, was increased when compared to wild type. The sum of the maximum fluorescence intensity (fluorescence intensity at the λ$_{max}$) for the double mutant proteins was not equal to the intensity seen in the triple mutant protein. The enzymatic activity and fluorescence data indicate that the replacement of Pro$^{96}$ longrightarrowLeu might affect on the stability of helix 8 and the loop located between strand 4 and helix4. The result suggests that the tertiary structure of triple mutant (P96L/F139W/F258W), being different from wild type, might have more compact residual structure at the vicinity of 139 and 258.8.

  • Job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi) is native to East Asia, and grains of the plant are used as health food and medicinal material. Head blight symptoms of the plant were frequently observed during disease surveys in Korea from 2006 to 2008. The symptoms were characterized as discoloration of husks, and subsequently inside of mature grains were shriveled or emptied. One hundred fifty nine isolates of Fusarium species were obtained from the disease symptoms of the plant collected from several locations in the country. Out of the isolates, the most frequently isolated Fusarium species were F. graminearum (34%), F. proliferatum (14.5%), F. verticillioides (10.1%), F. equiseti (6.9%), and F. fujikuroi (6.3%). Other Fusarium species isolated were F. subglutinans, F. semitectum, F. poae, and F. sporodochioides. Elongation factor 1 alpha gene sequences of the isolates were used for phylogenetic analysis. Analyses of the sequences revealed that the isolates were confirmed to be identical with each reference species of NCBI GenBank. Pathogenicity tests showed that F. graminearum, F. proliferatum and F. verticillioides were strongly virulent to grains of Job's tears. The present study is the first report of head blight of Job's tears caused by Fusarium species in Korea.

  • In this paper we will show that the pure subring R of F-rational ring S is F-rational when R is a one-dimensional ring, or S is a Gorenstein ring. And we will give a condition that a pure subring of an F-rational ring is to be F-rational.
