This study was conducted to determine effects of soil pH and form of nitrogen fertilizers on tomato growth and chemical properties of greenhouse soil using ferigation system. Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Superdoterang) were grown for three months in 18 L pots filled with two soil (pH 6.8 and pH 8.7). 4 different nitrogen fertilizers (urea, ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, and potassium nitrate) were fertigated with different concentrations of 0, 10, 50, and 100 mg N/L during tomato cultivation. Soil pH 8.7 decreased yield and chlorophyll fluorescence compared with soil pH 6.8. Yield at soil pH 8.7 increased by ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate fertigation. Soil pH 6.8 induced increment of yield by nitrogen concentration than form of nitrogen fertilizers. Soil pH after cultivation of tomato decreased by application of ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate. Soil EC by 100 mg N/L application of ammonium sulfate was twice as much as other fertilizers. Form of nitrogen fertilizer had less effect on concentration of soil $NH_4^+$-N and $NO_3^-$-N in soil but the concentrations slightly reduced at pH 8.7. These results indicate that application of urea and ammonium nitrate for a nitrogen source of fertigation has little affects on soil chemical properties before and after tomato cultivation.

Sexing from bovine embryos fertilized in vitro implicates a possibility of the sex controlled cattle production. This study was carried out to produce the sex determined cattle through the embryonic sexing by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technique. FISH was achieved in in vitro fertilized bovine embryos using a bovine Y-specific DNA probe constructed from the btDYZ-1 sequence. Using this probe, a male-specific signal was detected on 100% of Y-chromosome bearing metaphase specimens. The analyzable rate of embryonic sexing by FISH technique was about 93% (365/393) regardless of embryonic stages. As tested single blastomere by FISH and then karyotype with their biopsied embryos, the accuracy of sex determination with FISH was 97.6%. We tried the embryo transfer with sex determined embryos on 15 cattle. Among them, the 5 cattle delivered calf with expected sex last year.

This research was carried out to investigate the effect of supplemental lighting on stable productivity of paprika (Capsicum annuum L.) during low radiation period of winter season. The supplemental lighting sources used in this research were high pressure sodium (HPS) and lighting emitting plasma (LEP). Photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) emitted from both lamps decreased as vertical distance from lamp increased. The PPFD of LEP lamps were twice more than that of the HPS lamp per unit distance, but the rate of decreased PPFD of t he LEP per unit distance was higher than that of HPS lamp. And different degrees of PPFD between HPS and LEP lamps by horizontal distance had a smaller degree of difference than by vertical distance at the 100 cm away point. As daily average PPFD measured at the top of the plant under the supplemental lighting during January, the supplemental lighting significantly increased radiation. Radiation of HPS and LEP lighting was 137% and 315% higher than control (without supplemental lighting = sunlight). Air temperature in the top of the plant was not significant different among treatments. HPS and LEP lighting had no effect on increase of flower settings. Leaf length and width with LEP lighting was the longest, photosynthetic was higher than those of other treatments. Supplemental lighting treatments significant increased fruit length and diameter. Especially LEP lighting treatment had a greater effect on fruit length and diameter. In conclusion, LEP lighting treatment during low radiation period greatly affected growth and production of paprika. Further research will be required for the suitable application of LEP lighting in paprika production.

The main purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of gender equality consciousness of middle and high school student on the preference for Technology Home Economics and its teaming effectiveness. For this purpose, the gender equality consciousness, the preference and learning effectiveness of Technology Home Economics were measured among a number of 404 middle and high school students in Chuncheon city. The results of this study were summarized as following: 1. The gender equality consciousness of female students was higher than that of male students. 2. Middle and high school students had the higher preference and learning effectiveness for the Home Economics area in Technology Home Economics than they had for the Technology. 3. Female student's preference and learning effectiveness for the Home Economics area in Technology Home Economics were higher than male student's. Male student's preference and Loaming effectiveness for the Technology area in Technology Home Economics were higher than female student's. 4. The group which had relatively high gender equality consciousness score showed the higher preference and learning effectiveness for the Home Economics area in Technology Home Economics than the group with low gender equality consciousness score. In contrast, the group with low gender equality consciousness score had the higher preference for the Technology area in Technology Home Economics than the group with high gender equality consciousness score. In conclusion, gender equality consciousness and gender type had the most strong influence on the preference and learning effectiveness for Technology Home Economics among middle-high school students.
In the present study, we comprehensively examined the associations of plasma levels of total adiponectin and high molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin with the features of cardiometabolic risks including body fat distribution, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance and inflammatory markers in a cross-sectional study of 110 treated hypertensive patients. Blood lipid profiles, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA- IR) derived from fasting glucose and insulin concentrations were determined. Plasma levels of tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ (TNF-${\alpha}$), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were analyzed using ELISA. The results showed that plasma levels of HMW-adiponectin were negatively associated with body mass index (BMI, r = - 0.203, p < 0.05) and waist circumference (r = -0.307, p < 0.01), which was not shown in total adiponectin. Plasma levels of HMW-adiponectin were negatively associated with triglyceride (r = -0.223, p < 0.05) and positively associated with HDL-cholesterol (r = 0.228, p < 0.05). Plasma levels of adiponectin were positively associated with HDL-cholesterol (r = 0.224, p < 0.05). Plasma levels of HMW-adiponectin were negatively associated with hsCRP (r = -0.276, p < 0.01) and IL-6 (r = -0.272, p < 0.01). In addition, there were weak associations between plasma levels of HMWadiponectin and TNF-${\alpha}$ (r = -0.163, p = 0.07) and ICAM-1 (r = -0.158, p = 0.09). However, there were no significant associations of total adiponectin with inflammatory markers except hsCRP (r = -0.203, p < 0.05). Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis showed that only plasma levels of HMW-adiponectin was an independent factor influencing serum levels of hsCRP, a marker of systemic low grade inflammation, after adjusting for age, gender, BMI, waist circumference, alcohol intake, smoking status, blood lipids, total adiponectin and drug use (p < 0.01). These results suggest that HMW-adiponectin, rather than total adiponectin, is likely to be closely associated with the features of cardiometabolic risks in treated hypertensive patients and might be effective biomarker for the prediction of cardiovascular disease.

This study was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics of yoghurt with varying contents of Sanmeoru (Vitis amurensis Ruprecht) wine (SW). Yoghurts were fermented with 2 kinds of lactic acid bacteria (Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus; Yo-$MIX^{TM5}505$, Danisco, Denmark). The changes in quality characteristics were investigated during fermentation and storage, and anthocyanin composition was analyzed after fermentation. The pH decreased in all treatments, while titratable acidity and viscosity gradually increased during fermentation. The viscosity of the yoghurt with 5.0% cultured SW added was higher than in other groups. The viable counts of lactic acid bacteria gradually increased during fermentation. The sample of the 5.0% cultured SW-yoghurt was higher than that of the other groups. The pH slowly decreased during the storage period; this was lower in the control yoghurt than in the yoghurts containing SW, and the changes of titratable acidity in the samples containing 5.0% and 30.0% cultured SW were lower than that in the yoghurt containing 1.0% cultured SW and in the control. The change in viscosity and number of viable cells during storage was higher in the yoghurts containing SW than in the control group. The levels of anthocyanin increased with the SW content in the yoghurt. Sensory scores for taste of the yoghurt with 1.0% added SW was significantly higher than for the other groups. Yoghurt with added SW kept at $4^{\circ}C$ for 12 days retained its quality characteristics fairly well.
The level of genetic diversity and genetic relationships among Korean ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus karpowi) habitat and subspecies have been investigated based on Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) markers. Wild and domesticated Korean ring-necked pheasant, hybrids between domesticated Korean ring-necked and foreign subspecies, and four foreign subspecies; Chinese ring-necked (P. c. torquatus), Melanistic mutant (P. c. mut. tenebrosus), XL White (P. c. mut) and Southern green (P. c. versicolor) were used for comparison. On the basis of the results of AMOV A, 94.08% of genetic diversity in Korean ring-necked was allocated among individuals within habitat differences. Estimate of $\Phi$st, which represents the degree of genetic differentiation among habitats was 5.9%. Based on the dendrogram reconstructed by UPGMA, Yangpyung habitat of the eight habitats turned out to be distinct from others habitat. Interestingly, domesticated Korean ring-necked and hybrid mixture showed closer genetic relationship with four foreign subspecies than Korean ring-necked. As a consequence of AMOVA, 96.63% of genetic diversity in four foreign subspecies was allocated among individuals within subspecies. Estimate of $\Phi$st representing the degree of genetic differentiation among subspecies was 3.4%, which was lower than that among habitats of Korean ring-necked. The lower level of genetic difference among four foreign subspecies showed that these subspecies were genetically closer even though they were morphologically classified into four different subspecies. When seven habitats of Korean ring-necked pheasant and four foreign subspecies were divided into Korean and Foreign Pheasant Groups, respectively, more than 17% of genetic diversity was allocated between groups (about 4% among habitats/subspecies within groups). This observation implied that Korean ring-necked pheasant is genetically quite different from four foreign subspecies. On the basis of cluster analysis, three foreign subspecies (Chinese ring-necked pheasant, Melanistic mutant pheasant, and XL White pheasant) formed a distinct group with domesticated Korean ring-necked pheasant and hybrid mixture at 98% confidence interval.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate forage production and quality, and soil improvement of three legumes at Cheonan Yonam College. The three legumes used in the experiment were crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) red clover(Trifolium pratense L.) and chinese milk vetch(Astragalus sinicus L.). Flowering stage was observed on the 20th of April for chinese milk vetch and on the 30th of April for crimson clover, but the red clover did not produce flower until harvest time. The dry matter(DM) content of crimson clover was the highest among the three legumes. In terms of DM yield, crimson clover has the highest yield, the highest yield in crude protein(CP) and total digestible nutrients(TDN) was red clover. In terms of forage quality, the highest CP content was red clover, while the chinese milk vetch was the lowest for both neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and acid detergent fiberr(ADF). Red clove. and chinese milk vetch were highest fur TDN content, and the chinese milk vetch has the highest for relative feed value(RFV). Assessment of the chemical properties of soil after harvest showed that the nitrogen content of soil increased in all legumes. The organic matter(OM) content of soil in both crimson and red clover increased, while the chinese milk vetch decreased. The available $P_2O_5$ decreased in all three legumes, but the biggest decrease was in the chinese milk vetch. The exchangeable potassium in the soil for both crimson and red clover increased, but in chinese milk vetch it decreased. Based on the results of this study, the chinese milk vetch was superior in terms of forage quality, but crimson and red clover are excellent in forage yield and in maintaining soil quality in upland.
This study was conducted to evaluate the daily intakes of propyl gallate, EDTA (ethylenediamine tetra acetate), and erythorbic acid for average consumers by age group and the intake of high consumers ($95^{th}$ percentile) in Korea. The average intake of EDTA was $1.14{\mu}g/kg{\cdot}bw/day$, and 0.0% of the ADI (acceptable daily intake) established by JECFA (Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives). The $95^{th}$ percentile intake of EDTA was $141.24{\mu}g/kg{\cdot}bw/day$ (5.6% of ADI). The average intake of erythorbic acid was $16.93{\mu}g/kg{\cdot}bw/day$, and the 3-6 year-old group had the highest consumption ($58.43{\mu}g/kg{\cdot}bw/day$), which was <1.0% of the ADI established by the EU (European Union). The $95^{th}$ percentile intake of erythorbic acid was $1,320.31{\mu}g/kg{\cdot}bw/day$ and 22.0% of the ADI. In conclusion, daily intakes of propyl gallate, EDTA, and erythorbic acid in Korea were at safe levels in all age groups and also in high consumers.

Purpose: To understand genetic differences and similarities between mucolipidosis and control. Methods: Using the fibroblast of the mucolipidosis II and control, forward and reverse subtracted libraries were constructed. Among these clones, we investigated mutations in the GNPTA (MGC4170) gene, which codes for the ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ subunits of phosphotransferase, and in the GNPTAG gene, which codes for the ${\gamma}$ subunits in 5 Korean patients with mucolipidosis type II or IIIA. Result: Several differentially expressed cDNAs were cloned and their sequences were determined. Mutation analysis of the interested gene, GNPTA was performed and we identified 7 mutations in the GNPTA gene, but none in the GNPTAG gene. The mutations in type II patients included p.Q104X(c.310C>T), p.R1189X(c.3565C>T), p.S1058X(c.3173C>G), p.W894X(c.2681G>A) and p.H1158fsX15(c.3474_3475delTA), all of which are non-sense or frame shift mutations. However, a splicing site mutation, IVS13+1G>A (c.2715+1G>A) was detected along with a non-sense or a frame shift mutation (p.R1189X or p.E858fsX3(c.2574_2575delGA)) in two mucolipidosis type IIIA patients. Conclusion: This report shows that mutations in the GNPTA gene coding for the ${\alpha}{\beta}$subunits of phosphotransferase, and not mutations in the GNPTAG gene, account for most of mutations found in Korean patients with mucolipidosis type II or IIIA.
