Silica-styrene butadiene rubber (Silica-SBR) compounds have been used in the preparation of tire treads. The silica dispersibility of silica-SBR compounds is related to the processability, mechanical properties, and wear resistance of tires. Recently, in order to improve the silica dispersibility of the silica-SBR compounds, the wet masterbatch (WMB) process was introduced, which is a method of mixing rubber in the water phase. We aimed to improve the silica dispersibility of the silica-SBR compounds by preparing a silica dispersant applicable to the WMB process. For this purpose, cellulose, 2-hydroxyethyl cellulose, and cellulose acetate were employed as a silica dispersant. The silica dispersibility of the compounds was measured by a moving die rheometer. Improvement in the processability of silica-SBR compounds was evaluated by the Mooney viscometer. The wear resistance of silica-SBR compounds using a cellulose dispersant was improved by up to 29%.

In order to check the status of tire wear, a driver or auto mechanic generally checks tires with the naked eyes or with a coin. Those are easy for anyone but make it difficult to obtain precise information. But the result is a measure of mechanic wear out due to subjective judgment. Since we can not give correctly measure the stability of the tire. This may lead to an accident of the operator. Therefore, there is a need for a system checking tires precisely, accurately and easily, while making up for the aforementioned defect. This thesis has implemented a system with the aforementioned function. This system tire surface scanner data unit to determine the tread wear on the car and a storage unit for the data save, And a Web service unit allows the user to easily check the information.

In this study, in order to observe the change in the amount of Tire and Road Wear Particles and the ratio of tire components in it according to the tire wear resistance performance, carried out the evaluation by varying the vulcanization reaction design of the tire tread rubber. In addition, in order to improve the reliability of the evaluation of Tire and Road Wear Particles, the evaluation was performed indoor laboratory test equipment that simulates the condition on real driving to exclude various environmental influences including minerals, driver's habits, road surface, weather, tire structure and pattern designs. After the evaluation in closed space, it is estimated that the amount of collected Tire and Road Wear Particles is 84% compared to 100% of the tire and road wear loss weight, of which 96.4~97.7% was around the road and 2.3~3.6% was in the air. As a result of analy sis of the collected Tire and Road Wear particles, the tire component existed 63~75% in the Tire and Road Wear Particles depending on the wear resistance performance of the tire.
The design of non-pneumatic tires, which are created by filling the space between the wheel and the tread with elastomeric compounds or polygonal spokes, has become an important research topic in the automotive and aerospace industries. In this study, a system was designed for the design of non-pneumatic tires through the implementation of a generative adversarial network. We specifically examined factors that could impact the design, including the type of non-pneumatic tire, its intended usage environment, manufacturing techniques, distinctions from pneumatic tires, and how spoke design affects load distribution. Using OpenCV, various shapes and spoke configurations were generated as images, and a GAN model was trained on the projected GANs to generate shapes and spokes for non-pneumatic tire designs. The designed non-pneumatic tires were labeled as available or not, and a Vision Transformer image classification AI model was trained on these labels for classification purposes. Evaluation of the classification model show convergence to a near-zero loss and a 99% accuracy rate confirming the generation of non-pneumatic tire designs.
The rapid development of the automobile industry is an important factor that led to the dramatic development of synthetic rubber. The tread part of tire that comes in direct contact with the road surface is related to the service life of the tire. Rubber compounds used in tire treads are often blended with SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) and BR (butadiene rubber) to satisfy physical property requirements. However, when two or more kinds of rubber are blended, phase separation and silica dispersion problems may occur due to non-uniform mixing of the rubber. Therefore, in this study, we synthesized an SBR copolymer with the same composition as that of a typical SBR/BR blend compound by controlling butadiene content during ESBR (emulsion styrene-butadiene rubber) synthesis. Subsequently, silica filled compounds were manufactured using the synthesized ESBR, and their mechanical properties, dynamic viscoelasticity, and crosslinking density were compared with those of the SBR/BR blended compound. When the content of butadiene was increased in the silica filled compound, the cure rate accelerated due to an increased number of allylic positions, which typically exhibit higher reactivity. However, the T-2 compound with increased butadiene content by synthesis less likely to show an increase in crosslink density due to poor silica dispersion. In addition, the T-3 compound containing high cis BR content showed high crosslink density due to its monosulfide crosslinking structure. Because of the phase separation, SBR/BR blend compounds were easily broken and showed similar $M_{100%}$ and $M_{300%}$ values as those of other compounds despite their high crosslink density. However, the developed blend showed excellent abrasion resistance due to the high cis-1,4 butadiene content and low rolling resistance due to the high crosslink density.
A series of pullout tests were carried out on waste tire treadmats of various weave arrangements, with confining stresses ranging from 9 to 59 kPa approximately, in order to investigate the pullout behavior and to apply the results to the design of treadmat reinforced soil structures. A treadmat reinforcement can be considered as belonging to the extensible type thus progressive failure would develop in every tread. The pullout capacity of a treadmat was found to be generally equal to the sum of capacities of the longitudinal treads, with minor enhancement realized due to the presence of transverse treads. Pullout failures occurred in treadmats under light surcharge and with treadmats with higher material presence per unit area, while breakage failures occurred in treadmats under heavier surcharge and with treadmats with higher ratio of opening. The pullout capacity of a treadmat increased with increasing surcharge height and treadmat stiffness. A pullout test on a commercially available geogrid was also carried out for comparison and the pullout capacity of a treadmat was found higher than that of the comparable geogrid under identical loading conditions, indicating the merit of using the treadmat as an alternative to the chosen geogrid.
Silica/SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) compounds are the primary constituents of tire treads. Furthermore, the excellent dynamic viscoelastic properties of silica lead to good fuel efficiencies. However, the silanol group on the surface of silica does not mix well with non-polar rubber because of its polarity. This incompatibility causes aggregation due to the occurrence of hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl groups, thereby reducing the dispersibility of silica. Recently, the wet master batch (WMB) process has been applied to overcome these disadvantages, and research on silica dispersants that can be used in the WMB process has been increasing. In this study, we prepared silica/SBR compounds by using three types of eco-friendly cellulose-based dispersants in the WMB process, namely: cellulose-, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, and nanocellulose-based dispersants. Subsequently, we compared the vulcanization characteristics, viscoelastic properties, and mechanical properties of the compounds. The silica dispersibility in the rubber compounds was improved with the addition of the nano-cellulose dispersant, resulting in the enhancement of the workability, hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance of the SBR compound.
In this study, epoxidized liquid isoprene rubber (E-LqIR) was used as a processing aid in a silica-filled natural rubber compound to improve the fuel efficiency, abrasion resistance, and oil migration problems of truck and bus radial tire tread. The wear resistance, fuel efficiency, and extraction resistance of the compound were evaluated according to the molecular weight of E-LqIR. Results of the evaluation showed that the E-LqIR compound had a lower chemical crosslink density than that of a treated distillate aromatic extract (TDAE) oil compound because of the sulfur consumption of E-LqIR. However, the filler-rubber interaction improved because of the reaction of E-LqIR with silica and crosslink with the base rubber by sulfur. As the molecular weight of E-LqIR increased, crosslink with sulfur was facilitated, and the filler-rubber interaction improved, resulting in improved abrasion resistance. The fuel efficiency performance of the E-LqIR compound was poorer than that of the TDAE oil compound because of the low chemical crosslink density and hysteresis loss at the free chain end of E-LqIR. However, the fuel efficiency performance improved as the molecular weight of E-LqIR increased.

Recently, various stakeholder are interested in microplastic to cause pollution of the marine's ecosystem and effort to conduct study of product's life cycle to reduce pollution of marine's ecosystem. The micorplastic refer to materials of the nano- to micro- sized units and it can be classified into primary and secondary. The primary microplastic mean the manufactured for use in the specific field such as the microbead of the cosmetic or cleanser. also, secondary mean the unintentionally generated during use of the product such as the textile crumb by the doing the laundry. Tire and Road Wear Particles(TRWPs) are also defined as secondary microplastic. Typically, TRWPs are created by friction between the tread compound's rubber of the tire and the surface of the road du ring the driving cars. Most of the generated TRWPs exist on the roadside and some of them were carried to marine by the rainwater. In this study, we perform the quantitative analysis of the TRWPs existed in fine dust at the roadside. So, we collected the dust from the roadside in Chungcheongnam-do's C site with a movement of 1,300 cars per the hour. The collected samples were separated according to size and density. And shape analysis was performed using the Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM). We were possible to discover a lot of TRWPs at the fine dust of the 100 ± 20 ㎛. And we analysis it u sing the Thermo Gravimetric Analysis(TGA) and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer(GC/MS) for the quantitative components from the tire. As a result, it was confirmed that TRWPs generated from the roadside fine dust were included the 0.21 %, and the tire and road components in the generated TRWPs consisted of the 3:7 ratio.
For recycling of the waste tires, polyurethane binder mixed with the scrapped rubber powders which obtained from tread part of waste tire. This study covered the effect of the binder contents on the mechanical properties of the blend. We also studied the change of the properties after aging on properties compared with those of before aging. The curing reaction of the binder was also investigated in this study. We obtained conclusions the suitable binder content was 15phr in this system.
