Pharmacokinetics of prednisolone and prednisone undergoing reversible interconversion were analyzed from the model including this metabolic process. Blood samples were drawn serially upto 12 hours after I,V. bolus injection of 1 mg/kg prednisolone sodium phosphate and prednisone into 8 dogs as a crossover manner. Plasma concentrations of those two steroids were simultaneously measured with the method of HPLC. After injection, plasma concentrations of administered prednisolone and prednisone were declined with a biexponential pattern and their metabolic partner was rapidly formed. Plasma concentrations of those metaboite were decayed in parallel with their parent steroids throught the elimination phase. Apparent clearances of prednisolone and prednisone were $11.1{\pm}2.0\;ml/min/kg$ and $45.9{\pm}6.4\;ml/min/kg$, and they were underestimated by 29.4% and 33.6% compared to their real clearances$(15.7{\pm}4.4\;and\;69.2{\pm}17.7\;ml/min/kg)$ estimated using reversible interconversion model. Apparent volume of distribution of prednisolone$(1.32{\pm}0.43\;L/kg)$ and prednisone$(4.81{\pm}2.75\;L/kg)$ were overestimated by 53.5 and 52.7% and were compared to the real volumes $(0.86{\pm}0.30\;and\;3.15{\pm}2.13\;L/kg)$. Mean residence time of prednisolone$(2.0{\pm}0.61\;h)$ and prednisone$(1.74{\pm}0.74\;h)$ were much longer than the real sojourn time$(0.93{\pm}0.26\;and\;0.88{\pm}0.54\;h)$. Essential clearances In the reversible interconversion were greater as following orders: $Cl_{21}$(44.3 ml/min/kg) > $Cl_{20}$(24.2 ml/min/kg) > $Cl_{12}$ (7.9 ml/min/kg) > $Cl_{10}$(7.8 ml/min/kg). Estimated mean values of RF, EE, $%X^1_{ss}$ and $RHO^2_1$ were $0.31{\pm}0.10$, $1.49{\pm}0.23$, $69.3{\pm}16.7%$ and $0.65{\pm}0.10$, respectively. These results suggested that true pharmacokinetic parameters estimated from the model including reversible interconversion were significantly different from the apparent parameters estimated from the conventional mamillary model, and disposition of these two steroids seemed to be well explained by the model including reversible interconversion.
Using the Korean red ginseng saponin, which is known to world-wide and thd effects of it have been investigated by many reserachers for years. Ginseng saponin, one of the major components of Korea ginseng root, has many various biologic effects, such as cytotoxic effect, tumorcidal activity, protein biosynthesis and membrane modifying effect. The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of ginseng saponin on the alkaline phosphatase activity of ROS cells in culture. After ROS cells were seeded into a 96-well plate, 96-well plate cultured until confluence was obtained. To evaluate cytotoxic effect of total saponin in cultured ROS cells, the plates were added to each total saponin concentration (0-1mg/ml). After 48hr., cells were counted by stain with 0.2% trypan blue at randomly selected field microscopically. Also, to evaluate alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity of total saponin in cultured ROS cell, the plate was added to each total saponin concentration (0-1mg/ml) and ALP activity was assayed. To evaluate time-course of ALP activity, $31.25{\mu}g/ml$ of saponin added to 96-well plate. After culture of 6, 12, 24 and 48hr., ALP activity test was performed. To evaluate effect of cycloheximide in ALP activity, 96-well plate was added to saponin and cycloheximide. In control group, the plate was added saponin only. The results were as follows. 1. After the various concentration of total saponin was added in the medium, 500 and $1000{\mu}g/ml$ of total saponin showed cytotoxic effect of ROS(P<0.005). 2. In contrast to control group, 7.6, 15.6, 31.25, 62.5 and $250{\mu}g/ml$ of total saponin increased ALP activity significantly. 3. Otherwise, 500 and $1000{\mu}g/ml$ of total saponin decreased ALP activity significantly(P<0.005). 4. As the time span increases, $31.25{\mu}g/ml$ of total saponin increased ALP activity. 5. Cycloheximide decreased saponin-indueced ALP actitity in ROS(P<0.005). These results suggest that Ginseng total saponin stimulates the ALP activity of rat osteoblastic cells.
In the System on a Chip design, the on chip bus is one of the critical factors that decides the overall system performance. Especially, in the case or reusing the IPs such as processors, DSPs and multimedia IPs that requires higher bandwidth, the bandwidth problems of on chip bus are getting more serious. Recently ARM proposes the Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix that is a highly efficient on chip bus to solve the bandwidth problems. The Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix allows parallel access paths between multiple masters and slaves in a system. This is achieved by using a more complex interconnection matrix and gives the benefit of increased overall bus bandwidth, and a more flexible system architecture. However, there is one clock cycle delay for each master in existing Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix whenever the master starts new transactions or changes the slave layers because of the Input Stage and arbitration logic realized with Moore type. In this paper, we improved the existing Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix architecture to solve the one clock cycle delay problems and to reduce the area overhead of the Input Stage. With the elimination of the Input Stage and some restrictions on the arbitration scheme, we tan take away the one clock cycle delay and reduce the area overhead. Experimental results show that the end time of total bus transaction and the average latency time of improved Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix are improved by $20\%\;and\;24\%$ respectively. in ease of executing a number of transactions by 4-beat incrementing burst type. Besides the total area and the clock period are reduced by $22\%\;and\;29\%$ respectively, compared with existing Multi-layer AHB BusMatrix.

Two weeks of therapy with intra-articular hyaluronic acid and oral caprofen failed to improve the clinical signs of hip osteoarthritis radiologically confirmed in a dog. Then, over the period of 30 days (7 sessions at 5-day intervals), bee- venom acupuncture (BV-AP, injection of bee venom at acupoints, also called apitoxin-aquapuncture) plus Trigger Point (TP) therapy was used. Five acupoints on the affected right limb were injected each time: GB30(as local point), plus ST35, GB33, BL40 and LIV08 (as distant points). The injection mixture (0.2 ml/point; total 1 ml/session) was saline + apitoxin + 2% lidocaine, so that the injected solution contained $100{\mu}g$ apitoxin diluted in 0.2% lidocaine-saline solution/ml. The total dose of apitoxin used was, therefore, $100{\mu}g/session$, divided over the 5 acupoints. One TP in the middle of the right quadriceps muscle was injected with 2% lidocaine (0.2 ml/point) each time. BV-AP improved the clinical signs rapidly; lameness and ataxia were disappear after 7 sessions (30 days); the right hind limb muscular atrophy was much improved and the hip radiograph was almost normal two weeks after 7 sessions (44 days). The present patient was a case with canine hip osteoarthritis which showed favorable therapeutic response by BV-AP plus TP therapy.
Tetracycline antibiotics have been widely used not only therapeutics but feed additives. There are many methods for the isolation and determination of tetracycline antibiotics in animal muscle tissue. But those methods take much time and labor, so it is difficult to analyse many samples simultaneously. A rapid isolation method and liquid chromatographic determination of tetracycline antibiotics in animal muscle tissue (bovine, porcine, chicken) is presented. Blank control and tetracyclines fortified samples (0.5g) were blended with $C_{18}$ containing 0.05g each of oxalic acid and disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate. After homogenize, homogenate was transferred to glass column made from 10ml glass syringe and compressed to 4~4.5ml volume. A column made from the $C_{18}$/meat matrix was washed with hexane (8ml) and dichloromethane (8ml, if needed), following which the tetracyclines were eluted, vith methanol or 0.01M methanolic oxalic acid (8ml). The eluates containing tetracyclines analytes were free from interfering compounds when analysed by HPLC with UV detection (photodiode array at 360nm). Standard curve for each tetracycline showed a linear response at the range of $0.05{\sim}1.0{\mu}g/ml$ and tetracycline antibiotics were eluted within 4ml of eluted volume. All tetracycline antibiotics except tetracycline were stable during the concentration process at $40^{\circ}C$ and time required for concentration was 3~4 hours. Fortified samples containing oxalic aicd and EDTA represented more good recoveries than those of not-contained sample. Recoveries were 91.8~110.1% (oxytetracycline; OTC), 57.7~79.5% (tetracycline; TC), 78.1~88.6% (chlortetracyclines; CTC) and 88.4~100.6% (doxycycline; DC) in pork tissue, 101.1~126.8% (OTC), 66.4~75.4% (TC), 79.2~88.1% (CTC) and 69.3~86.7% (DC) in beef tissue, and 90.8~95.6% (OTC), 66.2~84.4% (TC), 75.7~77.2% (CTC) and 55.6~80.7% (DC) in chicken muscle tissue. The detection limits validated in muscle tissue by this method were $0.05{\mu}g/g$ for OTC and TC, and $0.1{\mu}g/g$ for CTC and DC.
To investigate the effect of organic acids on suppression of fishy odor, the change of the odor and the remaining amount of trimethyamine (TMA), selected as the representative component of fishy odor in clam pickle (15.5% NaCl) were examined by sensory evaluation and gas chromatography. The fishy odor linearly decreased as the amount of vinegar increased at ${\alpha}=0.01$, but there was no significant difference of fishness score for the changes of storage period and kinds of acid. Overall acceptability score was found to be the best when 8 ml vinegar added to 100g clam pickle. The remaining amount of TMA showed the tendency to decrease as the amount of acetic acid and storage time increased and kinds of acid were changed in order of acetic, malic and citric acid. However when $4\;{\mu}l/ml$ acetic acid (=8 ml vinegar/100g clam pickle) was added, the percentage of the remaining amount of TMA showed little decrease from about 95% for 72 hours of storage time. From the results of sensory evaluation and gas chromatography, it was considered that acids have the effect on suppression of fishy odor by producing non-volatile salts by combining with TMA chemically and that the effect of acids on suppression of fishy odor is mainly due to the masking effect at the concentration commonly used.
Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the analgesic effect of 0.25% and 0.5% levobupivacaine for real time ultrasound guided single-injection femoral nerve block for the patients who are undergoing bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: Femoral nerve block was done to all patients with 20 ml of 0.9% normal saline on one leg and 20 ml of 0.25% levobupivacaine on the other leg for group I (n = 16) and 0.5% levobupivacaine for group II (n = 15) with 1:200,000 epinephrine and using real-time ultrasound and a nerve stimulator. The data concerning the verbal numerical rating scale (VNRS) for each leg, the consumption of the intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV PCA) and the demands for the additional analgesics was collected at 0, 1, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours after the operation. Results: The legs on which femoral nerve block was done with levobupivacaine showed a lower VNRS score than the legs with normal saline in either group I or group II. The VNRS scores between the two legs, the consumption of the IV PCA and the demand for additional analgesics showed no significant differences between the groups. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that single-injection femoral nerve block using real-time ultrasound with either 0.25% levobupivacaine or 0.5% levobupivacaine 20 ml provides a good effect for the postoperative pain control after TKA.
The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of tetracycline - HCl on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface and titanium plasma-sprayed surface were utilized. Implant surface was rubbed with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution for 1 min., $1\frac{1}{2}\;min$., 2 min., $2\frac{1}{2}\;min$. and 3min. respectively in the test group and with saline for 1 min. in the control group. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. The following results were obtained. 1. Pure titanium machined surfaces conditioned with saline for 1 min., showed a few shallow grooves and ridges and were less irregular. 2. Pure titanium machined surfaces conditioned with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution showed more irregular and corrosive surfaces compared to the control group irrespective of the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. 3. Titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with saline for 1 min., were deposited with round amorphous particles and showed round or irregular pores that can be connected to each other. 4. The irregularity of titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas were wider relative to the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. 5. Titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with tetracycline - HCl solution for 1 min. and $1\frac{1}{2}\;min$. were very similar to that of the control group, but the surfaces conditioned for 2 min., $2\frac{1}{2}\; min$. and 3 min. were changed. In conclusion, pure titanium machined surfaces were changed irrespective of the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. And titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with tetracycline - HCl solution began to be changed from $1\frac{1}{2}\;min$. This results will be applicable to the regenerative procedures for peri-implantitis treatment.

Purpose : To evaluate changes in total cerebral blood flow (tCBF) with aging, parenchymal volume changes and vascular abnormalities, using 2 dimensional (D) phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (PC MRI). Materials and Methods : Routine brain MRI including T2 weighted image, time-of-flight (TOF) MR Angiography (MRA) and 2D PC MRI were performed in 73 individuals, including 12 volunteers. Normal subjects (12 volunteers, and 21 individuals with normal MRI and normal MRA) were classified into groups according to age (18-29, 30-49 and 50-66 years). For the group with abnormalities in brain MRIs, cerebral parenchymal volume changes were scored according to the T2 weighted images, and atherosclerotic changes were scored according to the MRA findings. Abnormal groups were classified into 4 groups: (i) mild reduction in volume, (ii) marked reduction in volume by parenchymal volume and atherosclerotic changes, and (iii) increased volume and (iv) Moya-moya disease. Volumetric flow was measured at the internal carotid artery (ICA) and vertebral artery bilaterally using the velocity-flow diagrams from PC MRI, and combined 4 vessel flows and tCBF were compared among all the groups. Results : The age-specific distribution of tCBFs in normal subjects were as follows: $12.0{\pm}2.1ml/sec$ in 18-29 years group, $11.8{\pm}1.9ml/sec$ in 30-49 years group, $10.9{\pm}2.2ml/sec$ in 50-66 years group. The distribution of tCBFs in the different subsets of the abnormal population were as follows: $9.5{\pm}2.5ml/sec$ in the group with mild reduction in volume, $7.6{\pm}2.0ml/sec$ in the group with marked reduction in volume, and $7.3{\pm}1.2ml/sec$ and $7.0{\pm}1.1ml/sec$ in the increased parenchymal volume and Moya-moya disease groups respectively. Conclusion : Total cerebral blood flow decreases with increasing age with a concomitant reduction in parenchymal volumes and increasing atherosclerotic changes. It is also reduced in the presence of increased parenchymal volume and Moya-moya disease.2D PC MRI can be used as a tool to evaluate tCBF with aging and in the presence of various conditions that can affect parenchymal volume and cerebral vasculature.
This letter proposes a simplified maximum likelihood detection (SMLD) scheme to improve the detection performance of multiple-input multiple-output receivers. The SMLD detects V streams according to the first detected V sub-streams. Through an ML test, the most probable stream is selected. Moreover, to detect the layer with the worst post-detection SNR accurately, reverse ordering is applied to the SMLD. Simulation results show that the performance of the Vertical Bell Laboratories layered space-time (V-BLAST) system can be improved by adopting the SMLD technique. In the case of reverse ordering, the SMLD can achieve a similar ML performance with significant reduction in computational complexity.
