Offshore structures are exposed to low- and high-frequency responses due to environmental loads, and fatigue damage models are used to calculate the fatigue damage from these. In this study, we tried to optimize the main parameters used in fatigue damage calculation to derive a new fatigue damage model. A total of 162 bi-modal spectra using the elliptic equation were defined to describe the response of offshore structures. To calculate the fatigue damage from the spectra, time series were generated from the spectra using the inverse Fourier transform, and the rain-flow counting method was applied. The considered optimization variables were the size of the frequency increments, ratio of the time increment, and number of repetitions of the time series. In order to obtain optimized values, the fatigue damage was calculated using the parameter values proposed in previous work, and the fatigue damage was calculated by increasing or decreasing the proposed values. The results were compared, and the error rate was checked. Based on the test results, new values were found for the size of the frequency increment and number of time series iterations. As a validation, the fatigue damage of an actual tension spectrum found using the new proposed values and fatigue damage found using the previously proposed method were compared. In conclusion, we propose a new optimized calculation process that is faster and more accurate than the existed method.
It is the common features of the integral reactors that the main components of the RCS are installed within the reactor vessel, and so there are no any flow pipes connecting the coolant pumps or steam generators. Due to no any flow pipes, it is impossible to measure the differential pressure at the RCS of the integral reactors, and it also makes impossible measure the flow-rate of the reactor coolant. As a alternative method, the method by the measurement of coolant pump power has been introduced in this study. Up to now, we did not found out a precedent which the coolant pump power is used for the real-time flow-rate calculation at normal operation of the commercial nuclear power plants. The objective of the study is to embody the real-time flow-rate calculation method by the measurement of coolant pump power in an integral reactor. As a result of the study, we could theoretically reason that the capacity-head curve and capacity-shaft power curve around the rated capacity with the high specific-speeded axial flow pumps have each diagonally steep incline but show the similar shape. Also, we could confirm the above theoretical reasoning from the measured result of the pump motor inputs, So, it has been concluded that it is possible to calculate the real-time flow-rate by the measurement of pump motor inputs. In addition, the compensation for a above new method can be made by HBM being now used in the commercial nuclear power plants.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dose-volume indices and radiobiological indices according to the change in dose calculation grid size during the planning of nasopharyngeal cancer VMAT treatment. After performing the VMAT treatment plan using the 3.0 mm dose calculation grid size, dose calculation from 1.0 mm to 5.0 mm was performed repeatedly to obtain a dose volume histogram. The dose volume index and radiobiological index were evaluated using the obtained dose volume histogram. The smaller the dose calculation grid size, the smaller the mean dose for CTV and the larger the mean dose for PTV. For OAR of spinal cord, brain stem, lens and parotid gland, the mean dose did not show a significant difference according to the change in dose calculation grid size. The smaller the grid size, the higher the conformity of the dose distribution as the CI of the PTV increases. The CI and HI showed the best results at 3.0 mm. The smaller the dose calculation grid size, the higher the TCP of the PTV. The smaller the dose calculation grid size, the lower the NTCP of lens and parotid. As a result, when performing the nasopharynx cancer VMAT plan, it was found that the dose calculation grid size should be determined in consideration of dose volume index, radiobiological index, and dose calculation time. According to the results of various experiments, it was determined that it is desirable to apply a grid size of 2.0 - 3.0 mm.
Fast response time is realized by using LTN-LCDs. To calculate the dynamic electro-optical characteristics, Ericksen-Leslie theory is used for the dynamic profile of molecules and order tensor representation is adopted for the free energy calculation.
A decentralised computational procedure is proposed for the optimal feedback gain matrix of large-scale discrete-time systems with time-delays. The constant feedback gain matrix is computed from the optimal state and input trajectries obtained hierarchically by the interaction prediction method. All the calculation in this approach are done off-line. The resulting gains are optimal for all the initial conditions. The interaction prediction method is applied to time-delay large-scale systems with general structures by extending the dimensions of coupling matices. A numerical exampie illustrates the algorithm.

Often a network becomes complex, and multiple entities would get in charge of managing part of the whole network. An example is a utility grid. While the entire grid would go under a single utility company's responsibility, the network is often split into multiple subsections. Subsequently, each subsection would be given as the responsibility area to the corresponding sub-organization in the utility company. The issue of how to make subsystems of adequate size and minimum number of interconnections between subsystems becomes more critical, especially in real-time simulations. Because the computation capability limit of a single computation unit, regardless of whether it is a high-speed conventional CPU core or an FPGA computational engine, it comes with a maximum limit that can be completed within a given amount of execution time. The issue becomes worsened in real time simulation, in which the computation needs to be in precise synchronization with the real-world clock. When the subject of the computation allows for a longer execution time, i.e., a larger time step size, a larger portion of the network can be put on a computation unit. This translates into a larger margin of the difference between the worst and the best. In other words, even though the worst (or the largest) computational burden is orders of magnitude larger than the best (or the smallest) computational burden, all the necessary computation can still be completed within the given amount of time. However, the requirement of real-time makes the margin much smaller. In other words, the difference between the worst and the best should be as small as possible in order to ensure the even distribution of the computational load. Besides, data exchange/communication is essential in parallel computation, affecting the overall performance. However, the exchange of data takes time. Therefore, the corresponding consideration needs to be with the computational load distribution among multiple calculation units. If it turns out in a satisfactory way, such distribution will raise the possibility of completing the necessary computation in a given amount of time, which might come down in the level of microsecond order. This paper presents an effective way to split a given electrical network, according to multiple criteria, for the purpose of distributing the entire computational load into a set of even (or close to even) sized computational loads. Based on the proposed system splitting method, heavy computation burdens of large-scale electrical networks can be distributed to multiple calculation units, such as an RTDS real time simulator, achieving either more efficient usage of the calculation units, a reduction of the necessary size of the simulation time step, or both.

The determination of roll speeds in continuous rolling system is an important factor along with the design of roll profile and roll gap. The tensile force on the workpiece induces reduced cross section area and the compressive force induces wrinkles. To determine the optimal roll speeds of current rough rolling system for wire rod, FE analysis was performed. We could predict the workpiece shape and the stress level more precisely by considering the elasto-plastic behavior of workpiece. Also the efficient analysis methodology is presented to reduce the calculation time by combining the ALE and lagrangian method.

This paper is concerned with the thermal design of the $138,000m^3$ class membrane type LNGC. To predict the temperature distribution, BOG and BOR, 3-dimensional numerical calculation was carried-out for the quarter of No.3 LNG tank. These sequence analyses were performed under the standard conditions of IMO ship design condition, USCG ship design condition and the Korean flag LNGC's route condition according to the 6-voyage modes. As the results, temperature behavior, heat flux, total penetrating heat, BOG and BOR were obtained, and those were compared with the maneuvering results considering the real temperature variation of air and sea water temperature at noon time. For securing the safety of LNGC during the ballast voyage, optimum control patterns of pressure and temperature in LNG tank is suggested in this paper.

To study catalytic activity and hydrogen embrittlement of Pd, Pt, Ni, and Cr in fuel cell electrode, we used density-functional theory. The calculation tools based electron density give much shorter calculation time and cheap costs. Maximum of bond overlap populations of each metal are 0.6539eV for Pd-H, 0.6711eV for Pt-H, 0.6323eV for Ni-H, 0.6152eV for Cr-H. Electron density of Cr has strongest in related metals, which shows strong localization of electron, implying anti hydrogen embrittlement behaviors.

Pusher-Loaded Scrapers are important construction equipment for large earthmoving operations. Production rates of a Pusher-Loaded Scraper vary greatly in accordance with the temperature or elevation, the equipment performance, haul speed, haul-road conditions, the method of loading, and Number of scrapers per one pusher. Determining of most economical scrapers fleet regarding the size of equipment, model name, and number of scrapers demands time-consuming calculation because it needs to reference of varied performance charts or tables and repeat complicated calculation. In this study, decision-making support system for the Optimal Pusher-loaded Scrapers Fleet is suggested for the purpose of calculating easily and handling effectively variables which are changed depend of the work conditions. The prototype of this program is developed using MATLAB. And the Database of Pusher-loaded Scraper embodies Performance chart & Retarder chart, soil properties, and calculation-support table.
