As an important and relatively easy to implement technology for realizing Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS), Adaptive Cruise Control(ACC) automatically adjusts vehicle speed and distance to a preceding vehicle, thus enhancing driver comfort and safety. One of the key issues associated with ACC development is usability and user acceptance. Control parameters in ACC should be optimized in such a way that the system does not conflict with driving behavior of the driver and further that the driver feels comfortable with ACC. A driving simulator is a comprehensive research tool that can be applied to various human factor studies and vehicle system development in a safe and controlled environment. This study investigated driving behavior with ACC for drivers with different driving styles using the driving simulator. The ACC simulation system was implemented on the simulator and its performance was evaluated first. The Driving Style Questionnaire(DSQ) was used to classify the driving styles of the drivers in the simulator experiment. The experiment results show that, when driving with ACC, preferred headway-time was 1.5 seconds regardless of the driving styles, implying consistency in driving speed and safe distance. However, the lane keeping ability reduced, showing the larger deviation in vehicle lateral position and larger head and eye movement. It is suggested that integration of ACC and lateral control can enhance driver safety and comfort even further.

For an efficient sliding mode control system stability and chattering avoidance should be guaranteed. A continuation method using boundary layer is well known as one solution for this. However since not only model uncertainties and disturbances but also control task itself is variable. it is practically impossible to set controller parameters - control discontinuity, control bandwidth, boundary layer thickness - in advance. In this paper first an adaptation law of control discontinuity is introduced to assure system stability and then fuzzy logic based tuning algorithm of design parameters is applied based on monitored performance indices of tracking error, control chattering, and model precision. In the end maximum control bandwidth not exciting unmodeled dynamics and minimum control discontinuity, boundary layer thickness making system stable and free of chattering are found respectively. This eliminates control chattering and enhances control accuracy as much as possible under given control situation. In order to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm safe headway maintenance control for autonomous transportation system is simulated. The control results show that the proposed algorithm guarantees system stability all the time and tunes control parameters consistently and in consequence implements an efficient control in terms of both accuracy and actuator chattering.
It is anticipated that, in cases in which different train operators share railway network, conflicts may occur among train operators with regard to train operation rate, train priorities, and arrival and departure time; besides this, during times when there is high demand for trains, operators will request train operations intensively, steadily increasing train conflict phenomena. In the present study, train operation sequence, minimum headway, arrival and departure time, train priorities, etc., were analyzed, and while using train departure times as decision variables in variably given train schedules, by adjusting train time requested by train operators, and finally rejecting the train times in cases in which conflict resolution is impossible, so that various constraints can be satisfied, a train slot allocation model was suggested to find the objective function, that is, the maximum number of train slots that can be practically applicable to railway operation.

The purpose of this studγ if to understand problem of present bus scheduling system and to develop optimal bus scheduling model which improve bus passenger's degree of satisfaction(DOS) and bus company's operation efficiency at the same time. This study developed optimal bus scheduling model, which reflected bus passenger's degree of satisfaction(DOS), applied to existing model that summery of bus operation cost($C_o$), passenger queuing time cost($C_{pw}$) and passenger travel time cost($C_{pl}$). And optimal bus scheduling model which developed in this study is optimized that using LINGO program based on linear program. Also by using the general case in Busan, compare total cost of present bus scheduling system and existing scheduling model with total cost of optimal bus scheduling model which reflected bus passenger's degree of satisfaction(DOS).
The noise prediction model, KRON-2006, in South Korea has been developed for obtaining the average noise level. The model is based on an outdoor sound propagation method based on ISO9613 and ASJ Model-1998 and supports the analysis of the linear noise source, such as highway, for obtaining Leq. Because of that, the model can't obtain Lmax, Lmin from the time series noise profile based on traffic at every moment. In order to address this problem, the real time noise prediction model based on traffic simulation using GIS model and algorithm is proposed. It can predict the vehicle point noise level based on vehicle type, speed generated from traffic simulation by using headway and obtain Lmax, Lmin as integrating the noise profile generated from it at every moment. An evalution of the noise prediciton model using field measurements finds good agreement between predicted and measured noise levels at 1m, 8m, 15m from curb of the near side lane.
Since Successive introduction of BMS(Bus Management System) into the local governments has been able to collect each bus data on the road and valuate the bus operation by the quantitative index not qualitative index. we need a study on punctuality index for evaluation of service level for bus operation using bus location information. We propose punctuality index for bus operation using time-space diagram and valuate the index by application to real bus data.
For the design and maintenance of highways and road structures, the statistical data are needed for the vehicle, especially heavy truck crossing. So far, static weighing has been used but it needs fixed station, crews, and it takes a lot of time. Also truck mix and headway distances cannot be obtained. Bridge Weigh-In-Motion system uses the bridge as a weighing scale and collects the axle weights, axle distances. vehicle types and etc. without stopping or slowing down the vehicle. In this study, for the first time in the country, BWIM system is applied on steel I-girder bridge and its applicability is examined. Also data collected in this system is analyzed to get truck traffic characteristics including average daily truck traffic, weight distribution, typical truck configuration and overweight truck status. The results are compared with other data from weighing station and highway toll gates.
The storage space requirement is a very important decision variable which determines the storage capacity of a container terminal. Generally, the storage space requirement is dependent upon such factors as ship headway, allowable dwell time of containers, loading/winding time per ship, and so on. Until now, the storage space requirement is estimated under the assumption that the factors are deterministic in several studies. However, this study proposes how to estimate a storage space requirement satisfying the required service level under the assumption that a containership's load size is probabilistic. Numerical experiments, which use a simulation show that the proposed method can estimate more adequately the storage space requirement than other methods under a probabilistic environment.
In express operation plans for urban trains, it is effective for the reduction of the number of sidetracks to apply a high performance train that has improved acceleration/deceleration ability and a regular train to local and express trains, respectively. In this research, based on a plan to use a high performance train for a local train, an optimization methodology is suggested to reduce the number of sidetracks and the operation time of the local train simultaneously. The optimization solver applied in this research is a genetic algorithm; headway, location of sidetrack and waiting time at the sidetrack are considered as design variables in the optimization problem. Consequently, by applying this system to Seoul metro line no.7, the effect of the suggested methodology was verified by obtaining the proper optimum solution.

Generally, density is used as a measure of effectiveness (MOE) of the level of service (LOS) for the basic segment of the roadway facility, but can not express the operational condition of the roadway facility properly because there can be an error in the computed density compared with the density measured in the field. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the real-time traffic characteristic data (traffic flow, speed, occupancy, headway, spacing, etc.) from the detectors installed on the mainline section of urban freeway under the study, analyze the maximum flow rate from the relationship between the real-time traffic characteristics collected, and evaluate the LOS criteria within the basic segment of the urban freeway based on the relationship between the occupancy and the v/c ratio depending on the level of service.
