  • It is necessary to detect the tilt angle for control or monitoring of various systems such as ship, aircraft recreation facilities etc as well as bridge or building systems. However the electronic liquid charge type tilt sensor which is one of typical tilt sensor has many problems. Those are remarkably slow response time and limited mounting condition because or liquid viscosity coefficient and inertia etc. In this study we propose a tilt angle instrumentation method using piezoelectricity acceleration sensor. The method can he applied on moving mount We verified the validity of the method through experiment.

  • In this paper, an experimental study on the control of the plume deflection panel(PDP) with a support jack of the ground launching platform using a tilt angle sensor is described. To overcome the disadvantages of the existing PDP control without a support jack using a limit sensor, the control algorithm using a tilt angle sensor and the ferroelectric RAM in the Launcher Control Unit for recognizing the contact with the ground in an abnormal operation is proposed to control the PDP in various operation environments. Finally, the proposed algorithm can be well applied for not only heavy-load launching platforms but also any other similar systems.

  • The celestial navigation is one of alternatives to GPS system and can be used as a backup of GPS. In the celestial navigation system using more than two star trackers, the vehicle's ground position can be solved based on the star trackers' attitude information if the vehicle's local vertical or horizontal angle is given. In order to determine accurate ground position of flight vehicle, the high accurate local vertical angle measurement is one of the most important factors for navigation performance. In this paper, the Earth geophysical deflection was analyzed in the assumption of using the modern electrolyte tilt sensor as a local vertical sensor for celestial navigation system. According to the tilt sensor principle, the sensor measures the tilt angle from gravity direction which depends on the Earth geoid surface at a given position. In order to determine the local vertical angle from tilt sensor measurement, the relationship between the direction of gravity and the direction of the Earth center should be analyzed. Using a precision orbit determination software which includes the JGM-3 Earth geoid model, the direction of the Earth center and the direction of gravity are extracted and analyzed. Appling vector inner product and cross product to the both extracted vectors, the magnitude and phase of deflection angle between the direction of gravity and the direction of the Earth center are achieved successfully. And the result shows that the angle differences vary as a function of latitude and altitude. The maximum 0.094$^{circ}$angle difference occurs at 45$^{circ}$latitude in case of 1000 Km altitude condition.

  • This paper proposes a tilt sensor made by MEMS technology. The sensor consists of an electrode glass a small mercury drop a circular channel and a cover glass. The mercury drop is used as medium of a current flow and in contact with two circular chromel electrodes used as an angular-motion resistance When this sensor inclines the mercury drop inside the circular channel moves into the bottom under the influence of gravity. A tilt angle can be measured by changed resistance as tilting this sensor, This sensor has a linear section between +50.$^{\circ}$ and -50.$^{\circ}$ with the accuracy of 2.$^{\circ}$. We are also studying about the enlargement of the linear section and the effect of the size of the mercury drop.

  • As the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-I (KOMPSAT-1) satellite can roll tilt up to $\pm$45$^{\circ}$, we have analyzed some KOMPSAT-1 EOC images taken at different tilt angles for this study. The required ground coordinates for bundle adjustment and geometric accuracy are obtained from the digital map produced by the National Geography Institution, at a scale of 1:5,000. Followings are the steps taken for the tilting angle of KOMPSAT-1 to be present in the evaluation of geometric accuracy of each different stereo image data: Firstly, as the tilting angle is different in each image, the characteristic of satellite dynamic must be determined by the sensor modeling. Then the best sensor modeling equation should be determined. The result of this research, the difference between the RMSE values of individual stereo images is mainly due to quality of image and ground coordinates instead of tilt angle. The bundle adjustment using three KOMPSAT-1 stereo pairs, first degree of polynomials for modeling the satellite position, were sufficient.

  • Eddy current (EC) sensor works based on the electromagnetic induction principle and has been widely applied in the industrial testing and evaluation due to its robustness and environmental adaptability. Meanwhile, tilt angle measurement is mainly based on the laser or visual method, which is strict with the measurement environment and not suitable for the industrial applications. In this paper, a novel tilt angle measurement method based on arrayed EC sensors is proposed. Both the simulation and experiments indicate that the measured error is approximately linear with tilt angle and the accuracy after compensation is $0.25^{\circ}$. In conclusion, this research cannot only broaden the scope of EC application, but also overcome the shortcomings of existing angle measurement methods.

  • A commercially available Doppler radar was modified and evaluated for on-board monitoring of ground speed. The radar output was corrected for pitch angle of aircraft based on the output of an electrolytic tilt sensor. The effects of aircraft speed, height and mounting angle on error in the ground speed were evaluated. The speed error decreased with an increase of the mounting angle since the radar contact angle with respect to the ground approached to the mounting angle. The error increased with an increase of the nominal aircraft speed. The altitude insignificantly affected the speed error. The Doppler radar provided acceptable percent errors within 5% in most measurements. The error can be reduced within ${\pm}$1.5% by increasing the mounting angle ($43^{\circ}$). The error of -3.8% at the mounting angle of $29^{\circ}$could be reduced by adjusting the mounting angle with respect to the radar contact angle.

  • This paper proposes a method of container position measurement using automatic landing system that is estimated by a laser range finder. In the most of container position measurement methods, CCD cameras or laser scanners have been used to get the source data. However those sensors are not only weak for disturbances, for examples, the light, fog, and rain, but also the system cost is high. When the spreader arrives the goal position, it is still swung by inertia or by wind effect. In this paper, the spreader swung data have been used to find the container position. The laser range finder is equipped in the front side of spreader. It can measure distance and relative position between spreader and container. This laser range finder can be rotated as desired by a motor. And a tilt sensor is equipped on the spreader to measure spreader sway. We estimate the relative position information between the spreader and a container using the laser range finder and tilt sensor through the geometrical analysis.

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to compare the effects of the abdominal draw-in exercise (ADIE) and the dead bug exercise (DBE) on the pelvic anterior tilt angle and the activities of the gluteus maximus (GM), erector spinae (ES), and semi tendinosus (ST) during prone hip extension. Methods : A total of 22 female adults with weak abdominal muscles were divided into two groups: ADIE group (n=11) and DBE group (n=11). The muscle activities of the GM, ES, and ST along with the pelvic anterior tilt angle during prone hip extension were measured using a wireless surface electromyograph and gyro sensor before performing the prescribed exercise. Two groups conducted the assigned exercise for 10 minutes. After the exercise, their muscle activities and the pelvic anterior tilt angle were equally re measured. Results : In the DBE group, the muscle activity of GM was significantly increased after the intervention (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in the amount of increase in the activity of GM (p>0.05). Moreover, in both groups, the activity of ES and the pelvic anterior tilt angle decreased significantly after the intervention (p<0.05) The decreased quantity in the pelvic anterior tilt angle and in the activity of ES showed no difference between the two groups (p>0.05). In the activity of ST, there was no significant difference within and between the two groups (p>0.05). Conclusion : Therefore, we suggest that ADIE and DBE are effective for women with weak abdominal muscles since the ES activity and pelvic anterior tilt angle are reduced during prone hip extension.
