The Investigation of Reaction Parameters on the Reactivity in the Preparation of TiB2 by SHS (자전연소합성법에 의한 TiB2 분말의 제조에 있어 반응성에 대한 반응변수의 고찰)

  • The preparation of $TiB_2$ by SHS in $B_2O_3-Mg-TiO_2$ system was investigated in this study. In the preparation of $TiB_2$, the effect on reactivity and reaction products of the initial pressure of inert gas in reactor, the content of Mg and $TiO_2$ in mixture was investigated. The minimum initial pressure of inert gas in reactor for SHS reaction in this system was 5atm, and as the pressure increased, the concentration of unreacted Mg decreased and combustion temperature increased. At the initial inert gas pressure in reactor of 50atm, the optimum composition for the preparation of pure $TiB_2$ was $B_2O_3+5Mg+TiO_2$. The $TiB_2$ synthesized in this condition had an irregular shape and the particle size of $1\~3{\mu}m$.

Effect of Ceramic Powder Content and Shape on the Electrical Properties of Ceramic(BaTiO3)-polymer(Epoxy) Composite for Embedded Capacitors (임베디드 커패시터용 세라믹(BaTiO3)-고분자(에폭시) 필름의 세라믹 분말 형상 및 함량에 따른 전기적 특성)

  • The ceramic($BaTiO_3$)-polymer(epoxy) composites have been widely investigated as dielectric materials for embedded capacitors in printed circuit boards (PCBs). The dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites prepared using the agglomerated $BaTiO_3$ particles were investigated in the present study. The dielectric constants of the composites prepared using the agglomerated $BaTiO_3$ particles were about 2 times higher than those of the composites with the dispersed $BaTiO_3$ particles. The insulation resistance of the composites prepared using the agglomerated $BaTiO_3$ particles were lower than those of the composites with dispersed $BaTiO_3$ particles. As a result, there is tradeoff between high dielectric constant and insulation resistance in the $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites. So it is important to select proper agglomerated or dispersed $BaTiO_3$ particles in accordance with needs.

  • Ti-Zr-Ni coatings deposited by low vacuum plasma spray technique consisted of nanometer-sized $W-Ti_{50}Zr_{35}Ni_{15}$ 1/1 cubic approximant and TiZrNi Laves phases as well as a low volume fraction of $ZrO_2$ phase. The shift of composition during deposition of the quasicrystalline powders and the presence of $ZrO_2$ phases are believed to be responsible for the reduced corrosion performances evaluated by means of electrochemical tests in a Hanks' Balance Salt Solution at $37^{\circ}C$.

Synthesis of Submicron $SrTiO_3$ Powders by Wet Process (습식법에 의한 초미립 $SrTiO_3$ 분말 합성)

  • Pure submicron $SrTiO_3$ powders had been synthesized with chemical wet process that $5N-NH_4OH$ solution was sprayed into the mixed solution of $SrTiO_3$, $TiCl_4$ and $H_2O_2$ with $N_2$ carrier gas. The characteristic properties of powders obtained from this experiment were as follows. The optimum synthesis condition in reaction bath was above PH 8.5 and under $25^{\circ}C$ The particle size of precipitated SrTiO(OH) powders dried at 6$0^{\circ}C$ was under 0.01${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and uniform. Amorphous precipitated complex powders emitted adsorbed water at 15$0^{\circ}C$ less that and crystalline $SrTiO_3$powders was produced from calcining the complex at 30$0^{\circ}C$. Sintered body of SrTiO3 fired at 133$0^{\circ}C$ showed that relative dielectric constant was 228 at 1MHZ and bulk density was 4.73g/$cm^3$.

Photocatalytic Degradation of Chlorothalonil using TiO2 Supported in Matrices (TiO2 고정화 지지체를 이용한 Chlorothalonil의 광촉매분해)

  • $TiO_2$ was dispersed in zeolite and glass filter by soaking them in isopropanol solution of titanium tetraisopropoxide and drying in the air, followed by calcination at $500^{\circ}C$. The analysis of chlorothalnoil was carried out by gas chromatograph with an electron capture detector. Chlorothalnoil was degraded photocatalytically over the matrix-supported $TiO_2$ efficiently and could be completely photodegraded after 3hrs. Production were 5.0ppm of $Cl^-$ for $TiO_2$ supported zeolite, 7.5ppm of $Cl^-$ for $TiO_2$ supported glass filter and 2.0ppm of $Cl^-$ for $TiO_2$ powder. But, $CN^-$ was lower than the detection limit irrespective of matrices.

Thermal Shock Resistance of $Al_2$TiO$_5$ Ceramics Prepared from Electrofused Powders (전기용융 분말로부터 합성된 $Al_2$TiO$_5$ Ceramics의 열충격 저항성)

  • The thermal instability of Al2TiO5 Ceramics was contrlled by solid solution with MgO SiO2 and ZrO2 through electrofusion in an arc furnace. The thermal expansion properties of Al2TiO5 composites show the hysteresis due to the strong anisotropy of The crystal axes of these material. These phenomena are ex-plained by the opening and closing of microcracks. The difference in microcracking temperatures e.g 587.6(ATG2), 405.9(ATG3) and 519.7$^{\circ}C$(ATG4) is caused by the difference in grain size and stabilizer type. The thermal shock behaviour under cyclic conditions between 750-1400-75$0^{\circ}C$ show no change in mi-crostructure and phase assemblage for all three stabilized specimens. After the thermal loading test at 110$0^{\circ}C$ for 100hrs. ATG1 and ATG2 materials decomposes completely to its components corundum and ru-tile in both cases. However with approximatelly 20% retention of the Al2TiO5 Thus in order to prevent decomposition of the stabilized material in the critical temperature range 800-130$0^{\circ}C$ it must be traversed within a short period of time.

The Preparation of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Paste Used the Peroxo Titanium Complex and Characteristics by Annealing Temperature (과산화 티타늄 복합체를 이용한 염료감응형 태양전지용 페이스트의 제조 및 열처리 온도에 따른 특성)

  • The organic binder-free paste for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) has been investigated using peroxo titanium complex. The crystal structure of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, morphology of $TiO_2$ film and electrical properties are analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electrochemical Impedance Spectra (EIS), and solar simulator. The synthesized $TiO_2$ nanopowders by the peroxo titanium complex at 150, 300, $400^{\circ}C$, and $450^{\circ}C$ have anatase phase and average crystal sizes are calculated to be 4.2, 13.7, 16.9, and 20.9 nm, respectively. The DSSC prepared by the peroxo titanium complex binder have higher $V_{oc}$ and lower $J_{sc}$ values than that of the organic binder. It can be attributed to improvement of sintering properties of $TCO/TiO_2$ and $TiO_2/TiO_2$ interface and to formation of agglomerate by the nanoparticles. As a result, we have investigated the organic binder-free paste and 3.178% conversion efficiency of the DSSC at $450^{\circ}C$.

Photocatalytic Properties of TiO2 According to Manufacturing Method (제조방법에 따른 TiO2의 광촉매 특성 분석)

  • $TiO_2$ photocatalyst powders were prepared by chlorination method and sol-gel method. Specific surface area and crystalline (i.e., anatase and rutile) of the catalyst varied depending on manufacture conditions and method. TTIP-sol photocatalyst had higher methylene blue (MB) decomposition characteristics than photocatalyst from chlorination method and TBOT-sol. MB removal efficiency from aqueous solution with TTIP-sol photocatalyst was over 90%. Experimental results showed that the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst with a single anatase phase and a large specific surface area had high decomposition characteristics of organic materials.

Hydrothemal Synthesis of $PbTiO_3$ Powders (수열법에 의한 $PbTiO_3$ 분말 합성)

  • Hydrothemal synthesis of PbTiO3 has been investigated. A comprehensive thermodynamic model for heteroge-nous reacting solid-aquous system has been used to predict the optimum condition for the synthesis. Synthesis were performed using lead acetate trihydrate as Pb source crystalline TiO2 as Ti source and KOH as minerali-zer. The synthesis has been examined at low temperature (16$0^{\circ}C$) Phase pure perovskite PbTiO3 has been obtained at high pH(above 0.5 mol KOH). The morphology of PbTiO3 was acicular shape. It has been found sible for a distortion in the c direction. The water is gradully released on annealing the powder to 40$0^{\circ}C$ and the normal crystallographic properties are restored.

SINTERED $Al_{2}O_{3}$-TiC SUBSTRATE FOR THIN FILM MAGNETIC HEAD

  • In 1957, the first magnetic disk drive compatible with a movable head was introduced as an external file memory device for computer system. Since then, magnetic disks have been improved by increasing the recording density, which has brought about the development of a high performance thin film magnetic head. The thin film magnetic head has a magnetic circuit on a ceramic substrate using IC technology. The physical property of the substrate material is very important because it influences the tribology of head/disk interface and also manufacturing process of the head. $Al_{2}O_{3}$-TiC ceramics, so called ALTIC, is known to be one of the best substrate materials which satisfies this property requirement. Even though the head is not in direct contact with the disk, frequent instantaneous contacts are unavoidable due to its high rotating speed and the close gap between them. This may cause damage in the magnetic recording media and, thus, it is very important that the magnetic head has a good wear resistance. $Al_{2}O_{3}$-TiC ceramics has an excellent tribological property in head/disk interface. Manufacturing process of thin film head is similar to that of IC, which requires extremely smooth and flat surface of the substrate. The substrate must be readily sliced into the heads without chipping. $Al_{2}O_{3}$-TiC ceramics has excellent machineability and mechanical properties. $Al_{2}O_{3}$-TiC ceramics was first developed at Nippon Tungsten Co. as cutting tool materials in 1968, which was further developed to be used as the substrate materials for thin film head in collaboration with Sumitomo Special Metals Co., Ltd. in 1981. Today, we supply more than 60% of the substrates for thin film head market in the world. In this paper, we would like to present the sintering process of $Al_{2}O_{3}$-TiC ceramics and its property in detail.
