열화학적 방법에 의한 초미립 TiC-15%Co 분말의 합성 (Synthesis of Ultrafine TiC-15%Co Powder by Thermochemical Method)

  • Ultrafine TiC-15%Co powders were synthesized by a thermochemical process, including spray drying, calcination, and carbothermal reaction. Ti-Co oxide powders were prepared by spray drying of aqueous solution of titanium chloride and $Ti(OH)_2$ slurry, both containing cobalt nitrate, fellowed by calcination. The oxide powders were mixed with carbon powder to reduce and carburize at 1100~125$0^{\circ}C$ under argon or hydrogen atmosphere. Ultrafine TiC particles were formed by carbothermal reaction at 1200~125$0^{\circ}C$, which is significantly lower than the formation temperature (~1$700^{\circ}C$) of TiC particles prepared by conventional method. The oxygen content of TiC-15%Co powder synthesized under hydrogen atmosphere was lower than that synthesized under argon, suggesting that hydrogen accelerates the reduction rate of Ti-Co oxides. The size of TiC-15%Co powder was evaluated by FE-SEM and TEM and Identified to be smaller than 300 nm.

  • Quaternary Ti-Si-C-N coatings were deposited on WC-Co substrates by a hybrid coating system of arc ion plating (AIP) and sputtering techniques using Ti and Si targets, in an $Ar/N_2/CH_4$ gaseous mixture. The crystallinity, bending status, and microstructure of the Ti-Si-C-N coatings were measured by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), The micro-hardness of Ti(C,N) and Ti-Si-N coatings were about 30 and 40 GPa, respectively. As the Si was incorporated into Ti(C,N) coatings, the Ti-Si-C-N coatings having Si content of $8.9\;at.\%$ showed the maximum hardness value of about 55 GPa. In this work, the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti-Si-C-N coatings were systematically investigated.

  • The refining process and solubility of Ti in Al matrix during mechanical alloying (MA) were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as functions of alloy composition, milling time and ball to powder ratio (BPR). Mechanical alloyed samples were annealed for investigating their stability and the formation behavior of$Al_3Ti$in the temperature range from$200{\circ}C$to$600{\circ}C$. It is observed from present experimental that disappearance of Ti peaks in mechanically alloyed Al-10wt%Ti is not simply attributable to the dissolution of Ti into Al, but associated mainly with extreme refining and/or heavy straining of Ti particles The annealing of the mechanically alloyed Al-Ti powders show differences in aluminide formation behavior when Ti content in Al is equal to or less than l0wt% and higher than l5wt%Ti. When Ti-content in Al is equal to or less than l0wt%, the MA powders transform directly to a global equilibrium state forming $DO_{22}- type\;Al_3$Ti above$400{\circ}C$. In the Al-Ti samples with equal to or higher than l5wt%Ti, transitional phases of cubic$Al_3Ti$and tetragonal $Al_{24}Ti_8$ are formed above$400{\circ}C$. They are stable only below$500{\circ}C$, and, $DO_{22}-type\;Al_3Ti$ becomes dominant aluminide at temperature higher than$ 600{\circ}C$.

Ti 함유된 스테인리스강 용접부의 전기화학적 특성 (Electrochemical Characteristics of Welded Stainless Steels Containing Ti)

  • Electrochemical characteristics of welded stainless steels containing Ti have been studied by using the electrochemical techniques in 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$+0.01 M KSCN solutions at $25^{\circ}C$. Stainless steels with 12 mm thick-ness containing $0.2{\~}0.9 wt\%$ Ti were fabricated with vacuum melting and following rolling process. The stainless steels were solutionized for 1hr at $1050^{\circ}C$ and welded by MIG method. Samples were individually prepared with welded zone, heat affected zone, and matrix for intergranular corrosion and pitting test. Optical microscope, XRD and SEM are used for analysing microstructure, surface and corrosion morphology of the stainless steels. The welded zone of the stainless steel with lower Ti content have shown dendrite structure mixed with $\gamma$ and $\delta$ phase. The Cr-carbides were precipitated at twin and grain boundary in heat affected zone of the steel and also the matrix had the typical solutionized structure. The result of electrochemical measurements showed that the corrosion potential of welded stainless steel were Increased with higher Ti content. On the other hand, reactivation($I_r$), passivation and active current($I_a$) density were decreased with higher Ti content. In the case of lower Ti content, the corrosion attack of welded stainless steel was remarkably occurred along intergranular boundary and ${\gamma}/{\delta}$ phase boundary in heat affected zone.

  • There is a problem that semiconductor probe pin has a short lifespan. In order to solve this problem, Ti having excellent conductivity was doped to tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) having excellent hardness and abrasion resistance. This experiment was planned through the Taguchi robust design to determine the effect of the control factor of the ta-C:Ti coating film. The effect and contribution of control factors such as Unbalanced Magnetron Sputter(UBM) discharge current, arc discharge current, temperature, and bias voltage on ta-C:Ti characteristics were analyzed from the perspective of electrical and mechanical characteristics. The UBM discharge current was set to 4, 6, and 8 A. The main control factor of thickness and resistance is the UBM discharge current, and the thickness increased and the resistance decreased as the current increased. The decrease in resistance is due to the increase in the Ti content of the ta-C:Ti coating film. The arc discharge current was set to 60, 80, and 100 A. The main control factor of hardness and wear is the arc discharge current, and as the current rises, the hardness increases and the wear area decreases. This is due to the increased ta-C content of the ta-C:Ti coating film. Since resistance and wear are important for Probe Pin, the optimal level is set from the perspective of resistance and wear and a confirmation experiment is conducted.

HA/Ti 복합층 코팅한 Ti-30Ta-(3~15)Nb 합금의 전기화학적 특성 (Electrochemical Properties of Ti-30Ta-(3~15)Nb Alloys Coated by HA/Ti Compound Layer)

  • Electrochemical properties of Ti-30Ta-$(3{\sim}15)$Nb alloys coated by HA/Ti compound layer have been studied by various electrochemical method. Ti-30Ta binary alloys contained 3, 7, 10, and 15 wt% Nb contents were manufactured by the vacuum furnace system. The specimens were homogenized for 24 hrs at $1000^{\circ}C$. The samples were cut and polished for corrosion test and coating. It was coated with HA/Ti compound layer by magnetron sputter. The HA/Ti non-coated and coated morphology of Ti alloy were analyzed by x-ray diffractometer(XRD) and filed emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiodynamic method in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The homoginazed Ti-30Ta-$(3{\sim}15wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and ${\beta}$ phase peak was predominantly appeared with increasing Nb content. The microstructure of Ti alloy was transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. HA/Ti composite surface showed uniform coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The corrosion resistance of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the non-coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.

Effects of the Sintering Atmosphere and Ni Content on the Liquid-phase Sintering of $TiB_2$-Ni

  • The effects of the sintering atmosphere and Ni content on t도 densification of TiB$_2$-Ni have been investigated. TiB$_2$powder compacts containing 10, 20, and 30 wt% Ni were liquid-phase sintered at 1500-1$700^{\circ}C$ in vacuum or in flowing Ar. The densification was enhanced as Ni content increased. For a given Ni content, the densification was faster in compacts in compacts with larger grain size. These densification behaviors agree well with the prediction of the recently developed pore-filling theory. For samples containing high Ni contents, 80TiB$_2$-20Ni and 70TiB$_2$-30Ni, the densification was faster in vacuum than in Ar. In particular, 70TiB$_2$-30Ni was fully densified at 1$700^{\circ}C$ for 60min in vacuum. The suppressed densification in Ar was due to the entrapped Ar in the isolated pores. On the other hand, for 90TiB$_2$-10Ni, the Ar-sintering resulted in higher densification than did the vacuum-sintering. This result was attributed to the suppression of Ni volatilization by the Ar in the furnace and a retarded isolation of pores due to the limited amount of liquid in the sample. Therefore, vacuum sintering is recommended for the preparation of TiB$_2$-Ni with a high Ni content while Ar sintering is recommended for the preparation of TiB$_2$-Ni with a low Ni content.

Ni 기지 초내열합금의 고온산화 저항성에 미치는 Ti의 영향 (Effects of Ti on High Temperature Oxidation of Ni-Based Superalloys)

  • The effects of Ti on the high temperature oxidation of Ni-based superalloys were investigated by cyclic oxidation at $850^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$. The oxide scale formed at $850^{\circ}C$ consists of $Cr_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$, and $NiCr_2O_4$ layers, while a continuous $Al_2O_3$ layer was formed at $1000^{\circ}C$. The oxidation rate of the alloy with higher Ti content was higher than the alloy with less Ti content at $850^{\circ}C$, possibly due to the increase in the metal vacancy concentration in the $Cr_2O_3$ layer involved by incorporation of $Ti^{4+}$. However, Ti improved the oxidation resistance of the superalloy at $1000^{\circ}C$ by reducing oxygen vacancy concentration in $Al_2O_3$ layer.

  • Effects of Ti addition and homogenizing heat treatment on the mechanical properties in Cu-Zn-Al alloy (high strength yellow brass) were investigated. Grain refinement was successfully achieved by Ti addition. The microstructure, which was composed of island or fine feather-like branched Ti compounds was changed to feather-like eutectic microstructure as the content of Ti increased. The highest hardness value was obtained for 0.5 wt.% Ti specimen and the second was Ti non-added specimen in as-cast condition. The highest tensile strength was obtained for 0.5 wt.% Ti specimen. Because of the presence of cast defects and worse castability, tensile strength decreased as the content of Ti increased. Elongation increased with increasing homogenizing time and temperature; remarkable increase was obtained for $400^{\circ}C$ homogenizing temperature in the 0.5 wt.% Ti specimen. For $500^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ homhgenizing, temperature, high elongation was obtained in 2 and 4 wt.% Ti specimen.

질소산화물 환원과 N2O 생성에 있어서 V2O5-WO3/TiO2 촉매의 V2O5 함량 영향 (The Effect of Vanadium(V) Oxide Content of V2O5-WO3/TiO2 Catalyst on the Nitrogen Oxides Reduction and N2O Formation)

  • $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ 촉매의 질소산화물 환원반응에 있어서 $V_2O_5$ 함량이 NO 환원 및 $N_2O$ 생성에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 분말촉매를 사용한 미분반응기에서 실험 연구를 수행하였다. 고정된 비율의 $WO_3$$TiO_2$$V_2O_5$ 함량을 1에서 8 wt%까지 변화시킨 촉매에서 NO 환원반응과 암모니아 산화반응 특성이 조사되었다. $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ 촉매에서 NO 환원 반응은 $200^{\circ}C$ 이하에서도 상당량 진행되지만, $V_2O_5$ 함량을 1 wt% 촉매의 경우 700 ppm의 NO를 99.9%이상 전환시키는 최저 반응온도가 $340^{\circ}C$에서 아주 좁은 활성 온도창으로 일어났다. 그리고 이 활성온도는 촉매의 $V_2O_5$ 함량이 증가됨에 따라 점점 저온 쪽으로 이동하여, 6 wt% 촉매의 경우 $220{\sim}340^{\circ}C$에서 높은 활성을 보였다. $V_2O_5$ 함량이 8 wt% 촉매의 경우 전 온도 구간에서 6 wt% 촉매보다 낮은 NO 환원율을 보였다. 그러나 반응온도 $340^{\circ}C$ 이상에서는 촉매의 $V_2O_5$ 함량이 증가함에 따라 NO 전환율이 감소하였다. 이는 $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ 촉매의 NO 환원을 위한 촉매 활성점 상당 크기 이상의 $V_2O_5$ 입자와 관계되는 것으로 판단되며 촉매 입자가 클수록 $320^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 암모니아 산화에 의해 발생되는 $N_2O$ 생성을 고려하여야 한다. $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ 촉매는 배기가스 중의 질소산화물 제거를 위하여 현재 통상적으로 $350{\sim}450^{\circ}C$의 영역에서 운전되고 있으나, 고온 영역에선 2차 오염물인 $N_2O$의 발생을 피할 수 없고 에너지 소비량이 많으므로, $250{\sim}320^{\circ}C$의 저온 영역에서 적합한 촉매로써 $V_2O_5$ 함량이 높은 $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ 촉매의 사용이 권장되었다.
