A.C. impedance properties of HA/Ti compound layer coated Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15$)Nb alloys have been studied by electrochemical method. Ti-30Ta binary alloys contained 3, 7, 10 and 15 wt% Nb were manufactured by the vacuum furnace system. And then specimen was homogenized at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs. The sample was cut and polished for corrosion test and coating. It was coated with HA/Ti compound layer by magnetron sputter. The non-coated and coated morphology of Ti alloy were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy X-ray dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and filed emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using A.C. impedance test (PARSTAT 2273, USA) in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15\;wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and $\beta$ phase peak was predominantly appeared in the case of increasingly Nb contents. The microstructures of Ti alloy were transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. From the analysis of coating surface, HA/Ti composite surface uniformed coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The growth directions of film were (211), (112), (300) and (202) for HA/Ti composite coating on the surface after heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$, whereas, the growth direction of film was (110) for Ti coating. The polarization resistance ($R_p$) of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the Ti and HA coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.
In this study, the effect of niobium addition on the passivation behavior of Ti alloys in NaCl solution was investigated using various electrochemical methods. An ${\alpha}$-phase in Ti alloy was transformed into a ${\beta}$-phase and martensite structure decreased as Nb content increased. The corrosion and passivation current density($+300mV_{SCE}$) decreased as Nb content increased, and thereby a stable passive film was formed on the Ti alloy. Potential of Ti-xNb alloy in the passive region increased, whereas, current density decreased with time from results of potentiostatic and galvanostatic tests. Also, the corrosion morphology showed the smaller pits as Nb content increased. Consequently, Ti alloy contained high Nb content showed a good resistance to pitting corrosion in 0.9% NaCl solution.

In this study, we investigated electrochemically formed nanotube shape on ternary Ti-25Ta-xHf alloys with Hf contents. Ti-25Ta-xHf (x=0~15 wt.%) alloys were manufactured by vacuum arc-melting furnace. The obtained ingots were homogenized in an argon atmosphere at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 2h and then water quenching. The specimens were cut from ingots to 4 mm thickness and first ground and polished using SiC paper (grades from #100 to #2000). The anodization treatments on Ti-25Nb-xHf alloys were carried out at room temperature for experiments. The formation of nanotubular film was conducted by electrochemical method in mixed electrolytes with 1 M $H_3PO_4$ + 0.8 wt. % NaF at 30 V for 2 h. The morphologies of nanotube depended on the Hf content in Ti-25Ta-xHf ternary system.
Coatings of TiCrN ion-plated on a steel substrate was oxidized at $800^{\circ}C$ in air, and their oxidation mechanism was presented. During oxidation, substrate elements and Ti and Cr in the coating always diffused outwardly to form the oxide scale. Simultaneously, oxygen from the atmosphere diffused inward1y to react with Ti and Cr to form $TiO_2$and $Cr_2$$O_3$, respectively. Also, the counter-diffusion of cations and oxygen resulted in some oxygen dissolution in the unoxidized TiCrN coating, and Fe dissolution in the oxide scale. When the Ti content in the coating was high, the $TiO_2$-forming tendency was strong, while when the Cr content was high, the $Cr_2$$O_3$-forming tendency was strong.

When $Y_2O_3$ was added to Ti-excess $BaTiO_3$ ((Ba+Y)/Ti =1), the area occupied by $Y^{3+}$ ion was confirmed by its microstructure development, electrical conductivity behavior and lattice constant. Grain growth inhibition was observed when the content of donor dopant exceeded a critical value ($x{\approx}.0.01$) in $BaTiO_3+x(0.5Y_2O_3+TiO_2)$ system. A donor-doped behavior was observed at various Y contents ($0.2\sim3.0$ mol% Y) when $Y_2O_3$ was added to $TiO_2$-excess $BaTiO_3$. As Y content was increased, (002) and (200) peaks shifted to higher angles and the lattice constant (a and c axis) decreased gradually.
The growth rate of solid grains in TiC-XC-2vol% and TiC-XC-30vo1% Ni cermets, where X=Zr, W or Mo, was fitted to an equation of the form $d^3$-$do^3$=Kt. The grain growth behavior during liquid phase sintering at 1673K decreased markedly with addition of $Mo_2$C or WC and increased with addition of ZrC. The contiguity ratio was greater in the alloys with smaller growth rate constant and decreased with increasing Ni content in the $TiC-Mo_2$C-Ni cermet. The grain growth mechanism could be explained by the effect of contiguous grain boundaries in restricting the overall grain growth.

In this paper dielectric and electrostrictive strain properties of (1-y-x)Pb(Mg$_{1/3}$Nb$_{2/3}$)O$_{3}$-PbTiO$_{3}$$-yPbTiO_{3}-xSrTiO_{3}[(1-y-x)PMN-yPT-xST]$ ceramics fabricated by using columbite precursor method have been investigated with the substitution of SrTiO$_{3}$(ST). Dielectric constant of the specimens increased with the increase of ST content up to 5[m/o] and decreased with further substitution of ST. And the pyrochlore phase decreased with the increase of ST content up to 5[m/o] in XRD analysis. The elimination of the pyrochlore phase improved dielectric constants. The electrostrictive strains generated by AC electric field have the highest value at 5[m/o] SrTiO$_{3}$ addition and the hysteresis of strain ranged from 12 to 20[%]. The electrostrictive strain at various temperature investigated in the temperature range of $-50[^{\circ}C]~74[^{\circ}C].$ In higher temperature than phase transition region, it showed paraelectric property which shows very small hystersis.

TiAlCN coatings with various C contents were synthesized by unbalanced magnetron sputtering. The characteristics, the crystalline structure, surface morphology, hardness, and friction coefficient of the coatings as a function of the C content were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), a microhardness tester, and a wear test. In addition, their corrosion behaviors in a deaerated 3.5 wt% NaCl solution at $40^{\circ}C$ were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization tests. The results indicated that the $Ti_{14.9}Al_{15.5}C_{30.7}N_{38.9}$ coating had the highest hardness, elastic modulus, and a plastic deformation resistance of 39 GPa, 359 GPa, and 0.55, respectively, and it also had the lowest friction coefficient of approximately 0.26. Comparative evaluation of the TiAlCN coatings indicated that a wide range of coating properties, especially coating hardness, could be obtained by the synthesis methods and processing variables. The microhardness of the coatings was much higher than that from previously reported coating using similar magnetron sputtering processes. It was almost as high as the microhardness measured from the TiAlCN coatings (~41 GPa) synthesized using an arc ion plating process. The potentiodynamic test showed that the corrosion resistance of the TiAlCN coatings was significantly better than the TiAlN coatings, and their corrosion current density ($i_{corr}$), corrosion potentials ($E_{corr}$) and corrosion rate decreased with an increasing C content in the coatings. The much denser microstructure of the coatings due to the increased amount of amorphous phase with increasing C contents in the coatings could result in the the improved corrosion resistance of the coatings.

A feasible way to fabricate in-situ Al/TiC composites was investigated. An elemental mixture of $Al-TiO_2-C$ pellet was directly added into an Al melt at $800-920^{\circ}C$ to form TiC by self-combustion reaction. The addition of CuO initiates the self-combustion reaction to form TiC in $1-2{\mu}m$ at the melt temperature above $850^{\circ}C$. Besides the CuO addition, a diluent element of excess Al plays a significant role in the TiC formation by forming a precursor phase, $Al_3Ti$. Processing parameters such as CuO content, the amount of excess Al and the melt temperature, have affected the combustion reaction and formation of TiC, and their influences on the microstructures of in-situ Al/TiC composites are examined.
Microstructure and phase transformation of Ti-Ni-Cu alloy powders produced by using attrition milling method were studied. Mixed powders of Ti-(50-X)Ni-XCu ($X=0{\sim}20$ at%) in composition range were mechanically alloyed for maximum 20 hours by using SUS 1/4" ball in argon atmosphere. Ball to powder ratio was 50: 1 and impeller speed was 350rpm. Mechanically alloyed with attrition millimg method. powder was heat treated at the temperature up to $850^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour in the $10^{-6}$ torr vacuum. Ti-Ni-Cu alloy powders have been fabricated by attrition milling method. and then phase transformation behaviours and microstructual properties of the alloy powders were investigated to assist in improving the the high damping capacity of Ti-Ni-Cu shape memory alloy powders. The results obtained are as follows: 1. After heat treating of fully mechanically alloyed powder at $850^{\circ}C$ for 1hour. most of the B2 and B 19' phases was formed and $TiNi_3$ were coexisted. 2. The B 19' martensite were formed in Ti-Ni-Cu alloy powders whose Cu-content is less than 5a/o. where as the B19 martensite in those whose Cu-content is more than 10at%. 3. The powders of as-milled Ti-Ni-Cu alloys whose Cu-contents is less than 5at% are amorphous. whereas those of as-milled Ti-Ni-Cu alloys whose Cu-content is more than 10at% are crystalline. This means that Cu addition tends to suppress amorphization of Ti-Ni alloy powders.
