Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the exposure risk to tattoo components by analyzing skin absorption using the in vitro method. Tattoos are commonly used for cosmetic purposes, and the skin of not only the operator but of the people who are undergoing the cosmetic procedure is continuously exposed to hazardous chemicals. Methods: Skin permeation risk determination was conducted by the in vitro Franz diffusion cell method according to the ingredient types of tattoo dyes, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), non-volatile organic compounds and heavy metals, using hairless mouse full skin and human cadaver epidermis. Results: The major components with good skin penetration for each type of tattoo dye ingredient were clarified. Among the tatto dye ingredients, 1,2-Dichlorobenzene, Zn, Al, Pb and Ti showed good skin penetration. Most of the skin transmission rates were higher in hairless mouse full skin than in human cadaver epidermis. Conclusion: A possible exposure risk to hazardous substances in tattoo dyes was confirmed from this study. These results are expected to provide a positive contribution to the establishment of management regulations for tattoo dyes.
Glasses in the system $CaO-TiO_2-SiO_2-Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-B_2O_3$ were investigated to find the glass seal compositions suitable for use in the planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Glass-ceramics prepared from the glasses by one-stage heat treatment at $1,000^{\circ}C$ showed various thermal expansion coefficients (i,e., $8.6\times10^{-6^{\circ}}C^{-1}$ to $42.7\times10^{-6^{\circ}}C^{-1}$ in the range 25-$1,000^{\circ}C$) due to the viscoelastic response of glass phase. The average values of contact angles between the zirconia substrate and the glass particles heated at 1,000-$1,200^{\circ}C$ were in the range of $131^{\circ}\pm4^{\circ}$~$137^{\circ}\pm9^{\circ}$, indicating that the glass-ceramic was in partial non-wetting condition with the zirconia substrate. With increasing heat treatment time of glass samples from 0.5 to 24 h at $1,100^{\circ}C$, the DC electrical conductivity of the resultant glass-ceramics decreased from at $800^{\circ}C$. Isothermal hold of the glass sample at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 48h resulted in diffusion of Ca, Si, and Al ions from glass phase into the zirconia substrate through the glass/zirconia bonding interface. Glass phase and diffusion of the moving ion such as $Ca^{2+}$ in glass phase is responsible for the electrical conduction in the glass-ceramics.
Reactively sputtered $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$(PZT) films on $IrO_2$and Ir were evaluated with particular consideration on interface properties. The $IrO_2$and Ir were previously annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$or $N_2$atmosphere, respectively. There was no appreciable roughening in the interface of the $PZT/IrO_2$respective to that of the PZT/Ir; the rms roughness of $IrO_2$and Ir was about 3nm and 10nm, respectively. The ferroelectric properties of the $PZT/IrO_2$were found to be better than that of the PZT/Ir; however, the leakage current of the $PZT/IrO_2$was slightly larger than that of the PZT/Ir. The $PZT/IrO_2$thin films did not exhibit any fatigue up to $10^{11}$ cycles; the $P^*\;_r-P^r$ value decreased only from 16.6 to 14$\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$ until $10^{12}$ polarization reversals. On the other hand, although thin $IrO_2$layer was formed between PZT and Ir, the PZT/Ir thin films began to undergo fatigue after $10^9$ polarization reversals.

Characteristics of piezoelectric thick films prepared by screen printing method were investigated. The piezoelectric thick films were printed using Pb(Mg,Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$system. The lower electrodes were coated with various thickness of Ag-Pd by screen printing to investigate the effect as a diffusion barrier and deposited with Pt by sputtering on Ag-Pd. The ceramic paste was prepared by mixing powder and binder with various ratios using three roll miller. The fabricated thick films were burned out at 650$^{\circ}C$ and sintered at 950$^{\circ}C$ in the O$_2$condition for each 20, 60min after printing with 350mesh screen. The thickness of piezoelectric thick film was 15∼20 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the Ag-Pd electrode acted as a diffusion barrier above 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness. When the lower electrode Ag-Pd was 6 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the piezoelectric thick films were sintered by 2nd step (650$^{\circ}C$/20min and 950$^{\circ}C$/1h) using paste mixed Pb(Mg,Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$$.$ MnO$_2$+ Bi$_2$O$_3$. V$_2$O$\_$5/ and binder in the ratio of 70:30, the remnant polarization of thick film was 9.1 ${\mu}$C /cm$^2$.

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) have drawn great academic attention due to their potential as low-cost renewable energy sources. DSCs contain a nanostructured TiO2 photoanode, which is a key-component for high conversion efficiency. Particularly, one-dimensional (1-D) nanostructured photoanodes can enhance the electron transport for the efficient collection to the conducting substrate in competition with the recombination processes. This is because photoelectron colletion is determined by trapping/detrapping events along the site of the electron traps (defects, surface states, grain boundaries, and self-trapping). Therefore, 1-D nanostructured photoanodes are advantageous for the fast electron transport due to their desirable features of greatly reduced intercrystalline contacts with specified directionality. In particular, anodic TiO2 nanotube (NT) electrodes recently have been intensively explored owing to their ideal structure for application in DSCs. Besides the enhanced electron transport properties resulted from the 1-D structure, highly ordered and vertically oriented nanostructure of anodic TiO2 NT can contribute additional merits, such as enhanced electrolyte diffusion, better interfacial contact with viscous electrolytes. First, to confirm the advantages of 1-D nanostructured material for the photoelectron collection, we compared the electron transport and charge recombination characteristics between nanoparticle (NP)- and nanorod (NR)-based photoanodes in DSCs by the stepped light-induced transient measurements of photocurrent and voltage (SLIM-PCV). We confirmed that the electron lifetime of the NR-based photoanode was much longer than that of the NP-based photoanode. In addition, highly ordered and vertically oriented TiO2 NT photoanodes were prepared by electrochemical anodization method. We compared the photovoltaic properties of DSCs utilizing TiO2 NT photoanodes prepared by one-step anodization and two-step anodization. And, to reduce the charge recombination rate, energy barrier layer (ZnO, Al2O3)-coated TiO2 NTs also applied in DSC. Furthermore, we applied the TiO2 NT photoanode in DSCs using a viscous electrolyte, i.e., cobalt bipyridyl redox electrolyte, and confirmed that the pore structure of NT array can enhance the performances of this viscous electrolyte.
The degradation of dielectric breakdown field of 8nm-thick gate oxide ($SiO_2$) for Tipolycide MOS(meta1-oxide-semiconductor) capacitor with different annealing conditions and thickness of the polysilicon film on gate oxide was investigated. The degree of degradation in dielectric breakdown strength of the gate oxide for Ti-polycide gate became more severe with increasing annealing temperature and time, especially, for the case that thickness of the polysilicon film remained on the gate oxide after silicidation was reduced. The gate oxide degradation may be occurred by annealing although there is no direct contact of Ti-silicide with gate oxide. From SIMS analysis, it was confirmed that the degration of gate oxide during annealing was due to the diffusion of titanium atoms into the gate oxide film through polysilicon from the titanium silicide film.
Issues in the electrical characterization of semiconducting photoanodes in a photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell, such as the cell geometry dependence, scan rate dependence in DC measurements, and the frequency dependence in AC measurements, are addressed, using the example of a $TiO_2$ photoanode. Contrary to conventional constant phase element (CPE) modeling, the capacitive behavior associated with Mott-Schottky (MS) response was successfully modeled by a Havriliak-Negami (HN) capacitance function-which allowed the determination of frequency-independent Schottky capacitance parameters to be explained by a trapping mechanism. Additional polarization can be successfully described by the parallel connection of a Bisquert transmission line (TL) model for the diffusion-recombination process in the nanostructured $TiO_2$ electrode. Instead of shunt CPEs generally employed for the non-ideal TL feature, TL models with ideal shunt capacitors can describe the experimental data in the presence of an infinite-length Warburg element as internal interfacial impedance - a characteristic suggested to be a generic feature of many electrochemical cells. Fully parametrized impedance spectra finally allow in-depth physicochemical interpretations.
High quality $Si_3N_4$ metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors were realized by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). Titanium nitride (TiN) adapted as a diffusion barrier reduced the interfacial reaction between $Si_3N_4$ dielectric layer and aluminum metal electrode showing neither hillock nor observable precipitate along the interface. The capacitance and the current-voltage characteristics of the MIM capacitors showed that the minimum thickness of $Si_3N_4$ layer should be limited to 500 $\AA$ under the present process, below which most of the capacitors were electrically shorted resulting in the devastation of on-wafer yield. According to the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) on the cross-sectional microstructure of the capacitors, the dielectric breakdown was caused by slit-like voids formed at the interface between TiN and $Si_3N_4$ layers when the thickness of $Si_3N_4$ layer was less than 500 $\AA$. Based on the calculation of thermally-induced residual stress, the formation of voids was understood from the mechanistic point of view.
Pd/Si/Pd/Ti/Au ohmic contact to n-type InGaAs was investigated with rapid thermal annealing conditions. Minimum specific contact resistivity of $3.9\times10^{-7}\Omega\textrm{cm}^2$ was achieved at $400^{\circ}C$/20sec. This was related to the formation of Pd-Si compounds by rapid thermal annealing and the in-diffusion of Si atoms to InGaAs surface. However, the specific contact resistivity increased slightly to low-$10^{-6}\Omega \textrm{cm}^2$ at $400^{\circ}C$ for longer than 30 seconds, and to high-$10^{-7}$ at 425~$450^{\circ}C$ for 10 seconds. This resulted from the formation of Pd-Ga compounds. Superior ohmic contact and non-spiking planar interface between ohmic materials and InGaAs were maintained after annealing at high temperature. Therefore, this thermally stable ohmic contact system is a promising candidate for compound semiconductor devices.

The capacitor contact barrier(CCB) layers have been introduced in the FeRAM integration to prevent the Pt/Al reaction during the back-end processes. Therefore, the interdiffusion and intermetallic formation in $Pt(1500{\AA})/Al(3000{\AA})$ film stacks were investigated over the annealing temperature range of $100\sim500^{\circ}C$. The interdiffusion in Pt/Al interface started at $300^{\circ}C$ and the stack was completlely intermixed after annealing over $400^{\circ}C$ in nitrogen ambient for 1 hour. Both XRD and SBM analyses revealed that the Pt/Al interdiffusion formed a single phase of $RtAl_2$ intermetallic compound. On the other hand, in the presence of TiN($1000{\AA}$) barrier layer at the Pt/Al interface, the intermetallic formation was completely suppressed even after the annealing at $500^{\circ}C$. These were in good agreement with the predicted effect of the TiN diffusion barrier layer. But the conventional TiN CCB layer could not perfectly block the Pt/Al reaction during the back-end processes of the FeRAM integration with the maximum annealing temperature of $420^{\circ}C$. The difference in the TiN barrier properties could be explained by the voids generated on the Pt electrode surface during the integration. The voids were acted as the starting point of the Pt/Al reaction in real FeRAM structure.
