  • The performance of TiO2 microcones/CNT composites as an anode material for lithium ion batteries was investigated. TiO2 microcones/CNT composites were prepared by the polarization followed by electrophoretic deposition approaches on anodic TiO2 microcones, which were composed of individual nanofragments resulting in a large surface area where lithium ion can be stored. Compared to pristine TiO2 microcones, TiO2 microcones/CNT composite electrodes showed higher areal capacity with a stable cyclability due to an enhanced electrical and lithium ion conductivity. Furthermore, TiO2 microcones/CNT composite electrodes exhibited good cycle life characteristics and excellent rate retention under a high current density of up to 20 C.

  • The feasibility study for the application of the photoelectrocatalytic decolorization of Rhodamine B(RhB) was performed in the slurry photoelectrochemical reactor with powder TiO$_2$. The photoelectrocatalytic process was consisted of powder TiO$_2$, Pt electrode and three 8 W UV-C lamps. The effects of operating conditions, such as current, electrolyte, air flow rate and electrode material were evaluated. The experimental results showed that optimum TiO$_2$ dosage and current in photoelectrocatalytic process were 0.4 g/L and 0.02 A, respectively. It was found that the RhB could be degraded more efficiently by this photoelectrocatalytic process than the sum of the two individual oxidation processes(photocatalytic and electrolytic process). It demonstrated a synergetic effect between the photo- and electrochemical catalysis. Photoelectrocatalytic process was affected to air flow rate and optimum air flow rate was 2 L/min. The electrode material and NaCl effect of decolorization of RhB were not significant within the experiment conditions.

  • Refractory metals, W and Ti, and their nitrides, $W_2N$ and TiN, were investigated for using as an ohmic contact material with SiC single crystalline thin films. The possibility of nitride materials for using as a stable ohmic contact material of SiC at high temperatures was examined by considering the thermal stability depending on the heat treatment temperature, their electrical properties and protective behavior from the interdiffusion. W contact with SiC thin films, deposited by using new organosilicon precursor, bis-trimethylsilylmethane, showed the lowest resistivity, $2.17{\times}10^{-5}$$\textrm{cm}^2$. On the other hand, Ti-based contact materials showed higher contact resistivity than W-based ones. The oxidation of contact materials was restricted by applying Pt thin films on those electrodes. Nitride electrodes had rather stable electrical properties and better protective behavior from interdiffusion than metal electrodes.

  • A portable and disposable pH sensor based on Ti wire was successfully developed for monitoring hydronium ion concentrations. A sensing electrode was prepared by electrochemically depositing iridium oxide onto a Ti wire, while a reference electrode was fabricated by coating Ag/AgCl ink on a Ti wire. Combining the two electrodes in the pH sensor enabled the collection of open circuit potential signals when the sensor was immersed in solutions of various pH values. The pH sensor exhibited excellent electrochemical sensing performance in terms of sensitivity, response time, repeatability, selectivity, and stability. To demonstrate point-of-measurement applications, the pH sensor was integrated with a wireless electronic module that could communicate with a mobile application. The portable pH sensor accurately measured pH changes in real samples. The results obtained were consistent with those of using a commercial pH meter.
