Iron-loaded activated carbon fibers (Fe-ACF) supported titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) photocatalyst (Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$) was synthesized using a sol-gel method. Three different types of Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ were obtained by treatment with different precursor of Fe, and characterized using BET, SEM, XRD and EDX analysis. The photocatalytic activity of Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ was investigated by the degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh.B) solution under UV irradiation. From the experimental results, it was revealed that Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites show considerable photocatalytic ability for the removal of Rh.B by comparing non-treated ACF/$TiO_2$ composites. And photo-Fenton reaction with Fe element was incoordinately influenced due to different precursor of Fe. It clearly indicates that Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites prepared using $FeCl_3$ provided the highest photo-Fenton activity, then, which was affected by pH changes on the degradation of Rh.B.
PURPOSES : About 35% of air pollutant is occurred from road transport. NOx is the primary pollutant. Recently, the importance of NOx removal has arisen in the world. $TiO_2$ is very efficient for removing NOx by photocatalytic reaction. The mechanism of removing NOx is the reaction of photocatalysis and solar energy. Therefore, $TiO_2$ in concrete need to be contacted with solar radiation to be activated. In general, $TiO_2$ concrete are produced by substitute $TiO_2$ as a part of concrete binder. However, 90% of $TiO_2$ in the photocatalysis can not contacted with the pollutant in the air and solar radiation. Coating and penetration method are attempted as the alternative of mixing method in order to locate $TiO_2$ to the surface of structure. METHODS : The goal of this study was to attempt to locate $TiO_2$ to the surface of concrete, so we can use the concrete in pavement construction. The distribution of $TiO_2$ along the depth were confirmed by basing on the comparison of $TiO_2$ compare by using the EDAX(Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy). RESULTS : $TiO_2$ were distributed within 3mm from concrete surface. This distribution of $TiO_2$ is desirable, since the $TiO_2$ induce photocatalysis are located to where they can be contacted with the air pollutant and solar radiation. CONCLUSIONS : Nano size $TiO_2$ is easily penetration in the top 3mm of concrete surface. By the penetration $TiO_2$ concrete can be produced with the use of only 10% of $TiO_2$, by comparing the mixing types.
$TiO_2$ hollow spheres were fabricated by using $SiO_2$ as an inorganic template. Spherical $SiO_2$ particles were coated by $TiO_2$ through the nucleation process, and then the core $SiO_2$ part was eliminated by using HF solution. Finally, $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were obtained. The size of the $TiO_2$ hollow spheres was about 300-400 nm and the thickness of the hollow wall was about 20-30 nm. The hollow has several holes whose diameters were within 100-200 nm. Dye-sensitized solar cells fabricated by using the $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were characterized. The solar conversion efficiency of the cell was 8.45% when $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were used as a scattering material, while it was 4.59% when $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were used as a normal electrode material.
One-dimensional rutile $TiO_2$ is an important inorganic compound with applicability in sensors, solar cells, and Li-based batteries. However, conventional synthesis methods for $TiO_2$ nanowires are complicated and entail risks of environmental contamination. In this work, we report the growth of $TiO_2$ nanowires on a Ti alloy powder (Ti-6wt%Al-4wt%V, Ti64) using simple thermal oxidation under a limited supply of $O_2$. The optimum condition for $TiO_2$ nanowire synthesis is studied for variables including temperature, time, and pressure. $TiO_2$ nanowires of ${\sim}5{\mu}m$ in length and 100 nm in thickness are richly synthesized under the optimum condition with single-crystalline rutile phases. The formation of $TiO_2$ nanowires is greatly influenced by synthesis temperature and pressure. The synthesized $TiO_2$ nanowires are characterized using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM).
Electrical conductivity of$50Li_2O-xTiO_2-(50-x)P_2O_5$ glasses has been studied with an increase of the intermediate$TiO_2$content. Thermal properties were observed from TG-DTA measurement and the variation of glass structure was investigated by FT-IR. The density and glass transition temperature increased with an increase of the $TiO_2$ content. These results were attributed to the fact that bond strengthening was occurred because of the formation of P-O-Ti cross linkages in the glass. The ionic conductivity increased with $TiO_2$ content and a maximum value, $1.2{imes}10^{-6}$S/cm showed at x=20. The ionic conductivity showed a large increasement as a result that the pyrophosphate group become the predominant structural unit. This result can explain that Li ions mobility increased as a number of non-bridging oxygen on phosphate units increased.
Two-dimensional potassium tetratitanate ($K_2Ti_4O_9$) and three-dimensional potassium hexatitanate ($K_2Ti_6O_{13}$) fibers have been prepared by the combined method consisting of the flux melting (1150$^{\circ}C$)-slow cooling (cooling rate = 5$^{\circ}C$/h) process from the starting raw materials of $K_2CO_3$, and $TiO_2$ with the flux of $K_2MoO_4$. It was found that the fiber growth reaction is strongly dependent upon the mole ratio of flux (F) to raw material (R), which is 7 : 3 (F : R) as for the optimum growth condition. Relatively long fibers (average length ${\thickapprox}$ 4 mm) with a mixture of $K_2Ti_4O_9$ (major) and $K_2Ti_6O_{13}$ (minor) could be obtained when the reaction was carried out for the $K_2MoO_4-$K_2O{\cdot}4TiO_2$ (F : R = 7 : 3) system, but for the $K_2$MoO_4$-$K_2O{\cdot}6TiO_2$ (F : R = 7: 3) one, only the short fibers with ${\thickapprox}$ 2 mm long could be grown as the mixed phase of $K_2Ti_6O_{13}$ and $K_2Ti_4O_9$.
Monodisperse, spherical $SiO_2/TiO_2$ composite fine powders were prepared by modified Sol-Gel process which $TiO_2$ fine Powders was used as a seed particles for condensation of TEOS (Tetraethyl Orthosilicate). The reaction was carried out under $N_2$ atmosphere at ambient temperature using $NH_3$ as a catalyst. Ethanol was used as a solvent. Drying process was carried out with vacuum trap which cooled by liquid $N_2$. The reaction variables were the concentration of TEOS, the concentration of ammonia, the size of $TiO_2$ seed and molar ratio of $SiO_2/TiO_2$. The optimum condition for the preparation of $SiO_2/TiO_2$ composite fine powders without agglomeration was [TEOS]=0.3M, [$NH_3$]=0.7M, size of $SiO_2/TiO_2$ seed = 200~300nm.
Nano-technology is a super microscopic technology to deal with structures of 100 nm or smaller. This technology also involves the developing of $TiO_2$ materials or $TiO_2$ devices within that size. The aim of the present paper is to synthesize $WO_x$ doped nano-$TiO_2$ by the Sonochemistry method and to evaluate the effect of different percentages (0.5-5 wt%) of tungsten oxide load on $TiO_2$ in methylene blue (MB) elimination. The samples were characterized using such different techniques as X-ray diffraction (XRD), TEM, SEM, and UV-VIS absorption spectra. The photo-catalytic activity of tungsten oxide doped $TiO_2$ was evaluated through the elimination of methylene blue using UV-irradiation (315-400nm). The best result was found with 5 wt% $WO_x$ doped $TiO_2$. It has been confirmed that $WO_x-TiO_2$ could be excited by visible light (E<3.2 eV) and that the recombination rate of electrons/holes in $WO_x-TiO_2$ declined due to the existence of $WO_x$ doped in $TiO_2$.
The crystallized solder glasses with the low melting temperature for electronic package were prepared with the compositions of 77-80wt% PbO, 4.5-6wt% ZnO, 7.5-8.5wt% $B_2O_3$, 1-2wt% CaO, and 0.5-2.0wt% $P_2O_5$ containing 3-7wt% $TiO_2$. The Characterization of the solder glasses were studied using DTA, SEM and XRD. Frit containing 3wt% $TiO_2$ had crytallzation temperature range of $420-440^{\circ}C$. The major crystalline phase was identified as $2PbO{\cdot}ZnO{\cdot}B_2O_3$ by X-ray diffraction. Frits containing 4 wt% $TiO_2$ consisted of crysalline Phases of $PbTiO_3$ and $2PbO{\cdot}ZnO{\cdot}B_2O_3$ in the temperature range of $420-440^{\circ}C$, When g1ass frit containing 5wt% $TiO_2$ were heat-treated in the temperature range of $440-460^{\circ}C$, major crytalline phase was perovskite lead titanate.
A commercially pure Ti(CP-Ti) and Ti-25wt%Pd alloy for dental applications were cast into a phosphate-bonded Al$_2$$O_3$/ $SiO_2$ investment mold and the surface of the casting specimens were investigated by means of SEM/EDS, XRD and XPS. The addition of 25wt%Pd in CP-Ti showed a moderate mold reaction owing to the considerable lowering of melting point. XRD analysis of the investment after burn-out treatment revealed that it consisted essentially of $SiO_2$, Al$_2$$O_3$, P$_2$O$\_$5/, Mg$_3$(P $O_4$)$_2$, AlP $O_4$, Mg$_2$$SiO_4$, MgAl$_2$$O_4$ The mold reaction products were Ti$\_$5/Si$_3$ and Ti $O_2$ in case of CP-Ti casting and Ti $O_2$ and SiO$\_$x/ in case of Ti-25wt% Pd casting.
