  • A optical phase modulator of 5Gbps was fabricated on LiNbO$_3$ by Ti diffusion for optical communications. In this Paper the pigtailing, mode patterns and insertion loss were discussed. And the device Properties of driving voltage and bandwidth were measured.

  • In this paper, we proposed a diffuion model of Ti diffused lithium niobate optical waveguide for fabricating waveguides with high refractive index and compared with conventional one. The achivement of low optical insertion loss between waveguide interface and single mode fibers was discussed as a function of Ti thickness for $\lambda$=1.55$\mu\textrm{m}$ The proposed diffusion method exhibited higher refractive index waveguide than conventional one for $\lambda$=0.6328$\mu\textrm{m}$ We have achieved the total fiber-waveguide-fiber insertion loss as low as 0.5dB/cm in z-cut and 1$\pm$0.5dB/cm in x-cut for both TM and TE mode of Mach-Zehnder interferometric waveguide in the range of Ti thickness 1000-1400$\AA$ for $\lambda$=1.55$\mu\textrm{m}$ From these results, this diffusion model for making a low loss waveguide can be used for low-power-modulators and switches.

  • In this study, in order to develop multilayer low temperature sintering piezoelectric transformer, $Pb_{0.97}Sr_{0.03}[(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})x(Zr_{0.48}Ti_{0.52})_{1-x}O_3]+$ 0.25wt% $CeO_2$+0.3 wt% $Nb_2O_5$ system ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3-CaCO_3$ and CuO as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated with the amount of PMN substitution. With increasing PMN substitution, electromechanical coupling factor kp and dielectric constant were increased.

Corrosion Behavior of Inconel Alloys in a Hot Lithium Molten Salt under an Oxidizing Atmosphere (고온 리튬용융염계 산화분위기에서 Inconel 합금의 부식거동)

  • The electrolytic reduction of spent oxide fuel involves the liberation of oxygen in a molten LiCl electrolyte, which results in a chemically aggressive environment that is too corrosive for typical structural materials. So, it is essential to choose the optimum material for the process equipment handling molten salt. In this study, corrosion behavior of Inconel 713LC, MA 754, X-750 and 718 in the molten salt $LiCl-Li_2O$ under an oxidizing atmosphere was investigated at $650^{\circ}C$ for $72{\sim}216$ hours. Inconel 713LC alloy showed the highest corrosion resistance among the examined alloys. Corrosion products of Inconel 713LC were $Cr_2O_3,\;NiCr_2O_4$ and NiO, and those of Inconel MA 754 were $Cr_2O_3\;and\;Li_2Ni_8O_{10}$ while $Cr_2O_3,\;NiFe_2O_4\;and\;CrNbO_4$ were produced from Inconel 718. Also, corrosion products of Inconel X-750 were found to be $Cr_2O_3,\;NiFe_2O_4\;and\;(Cr,Nb,Ti)O_2$. Inconel 713LC showed local corrosion behavior and Inconel MA 754, 718, X-750 showed uniform corrosion behavior.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering piezoelectric ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator, $PbSr(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-(ZrTi)O_3$ ceramics were fabricated using $Na_{2}CO_{3}-Li_{2}CO_{3}$ as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the sintering tempo rature. At the sintering temperature of $900^{\circ}C$, the density, electrom echanical coupling factor(kp), mechanical quality factor(Qm) and dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}r$) of specimen showed the optimum value of $7.730[g/cm^2]$, 0.552, 1134, 1492 and 330[pC/N], respectively.

Piezoelectric and Dielectric Properties of Low Temperature Sintered Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)0.02(Ni1/3Nb2/30.12(ZrxTi1-x)0.86O3 System Ceramics

  • In this study, in order to develop compositions of ceramics suitable for piezoelectric actuator and ultrasonic vibrator applications using low temperature sintering, multilayer, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3$ and $Na_2CO_3$ as sintering aids. Their structural, piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the Zr/Ti ratio. As the Zr/Ti ratio increased, the electromechanical coupling factor $k_p$, and piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$ and the mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ all increased with Zr/Ti ratio and then decreased after the ratio exceeded 50/50. At the ratio of Zr/Ti =49/51 and sintering temperature of $900^{\circ}C$; the density, electromechanical coupling factor $k_p$, dielectric constant ${\varepsilon}_r$ piezoelectric $d_{33}$ constant and mechanical quality factor $Q_m$ all showed the optimum values of 7.900 $g/cm^3$, 0.576, 856, 312 pC/N, 1,326, respectively. These property values are very suitable for multilayer ceramics actuator applications.

A Study on the Acousto-Optical Wavelength Tunable Filters Utilizing Tapered Directional Coupler SAW Guides (Tapered 방향성 가중 결합 음향파 도파로 구조를 이용한 음향광학형 파장가변 광 필터에 관한 연구)

  • Acousto-optical wavelength tunable optical filters in LiNbO$_3$ have been demonstrated using taperd directional weighted coupling acoustic waveguides and Ti double diffusion technique. Conversion efficiency in excess of 61%, 86% and sidelobe intensity of -14.29㏈, -14.99㏈ were measured at a wavelength of 1551.1nm RF frequency of 173.58MHz and RF power of 35㎽ for both TE and TM input polarizations, respectivelv. A spectral width of ~l.8nm and linear tuning late of 8.6nm/MHz were demonstrated. A 2.82$mutextrm{s}$ switching time has been measured. With two channels with 2.5nmseparation, channel cross-talk was lower than -l4㏈ for single wavelength filtering due to sidelobe.

Physical Properties of PNN-PMN-PZT Doped with Zinc Oxide and CLBO for Ultrasonic Transducer

  • In this paper, to develop the ceramics with high $d_{33}$ and high $Q_m$ for ultrasonic transducer applications, $0.10Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.07Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.83Pb(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})_{0.83}O_3$ (PNN-PMN-PZT) ceramics were sintered at $940^{\circ}C$ using $CuO-Li_2CO_3-Bi_2O_3$ (CLBO) as a sintering aid by a traditional solid-state technique. The influence of zinc oxide additive on the physical properties of the prepared ceramics were systematically investigated. The R-T (rhombohedral-tetragonal) phase coexistence was found in the ceramics without zinc oxide additive and with increasing amounts of ZnO additive, the specimens showed a tetragonal phase. The formation of a liquid phase between ZnO and $Bi_2O_3$ contributed significantly to the grain growth of specimens. For the 0.1 wt% ZnO ceramics, the optimal physical properties of $d_{33}=370pC/N$, ${\varepsilon}_r=1,344$, $k_p=0.621$, and $Q_m=1,523$ were obtained.

Dielectric and Piezoelectric Characteristics of Low Temperature Sintering 0.20Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.80Pb(Zr0.48Ti0.52)O3 Ceramics with the Addition of Sintering Aid ZnO (소결조제 ZnO 첨가에 따른 저온소결 0.20Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.80Pb(Zr0.48Ti0.52)O3 세라믹스의 유전 및 압전특성)

  • In this study, in order to develop low loss multilayer piezoelectric actuator, PZN-PZT ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3,\;Bi_2O_3$, CuO and ZnO as sintering aids, their structural, piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the amount of ZnO addition, At the sintering temperature of $870^{\circ}C$, the density, electromechanical coupling factor(kp), mechanical quality factor(Qm), dielectric constant(${\epsilon}_r$) and piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$) of 0.4 wt% ZnO added specimen (sintered at $870^{\circ}C$) showed the optimum value of $7.812g/cm^3$, 0.535, 916, 1399, 335 pC/N respectively. Taking into consideration above piezoelectric properties of the specimen sintered at low temperature, it was concluded that PZN-PZT ceramics using 0.4 wt% ZnO as additive showed the optimum characteristics as the composition ceramics for low loss multilayer piezoelectric actuator application.
