  • It is definitely important to measure thrust during ground test when developing air-breathing engine, and in case of air-breathing engine, gross thrust should be calculated considering not only the measured thrust but also the force induced by the air flow of engine intake. Also, side thrust like yaw and pitch should be measured and analyzed using multi-component thrust measurement system. Engine performance was accurately evaluated by calculating the gross thrust of air breathing engine precisely which is analyzed from below serial procedure: labyrinth seal isolation, 1-axis gross thrust calculation, develop multi-component thrust measurement system, and side thrust analysis.

  • The determination of thrust is essential in design and evaluation of a hypersonic airbreathing propulsion device. Conventional methods to determine the thrust is using thrust stand or force measurement system. However, these conventional methos are not applicable to the case where thrusts stands are impractical, such as free jet testing of engines, and model combustor. For this reason, the thrust determination method from measured pitot pressure is considered and validated. Validation of thrust determination from pitot pressures can be achieved by comparing the actual thrust from thrust stand. For validation purpose, a small-scale supersonic wind tunnel is installed on the thrust stand. Thrusts are measured while pressures are measured simulaneously. Then, the thrust from pitot pressure measurements are compared with the measured thrust and theoretical thrusts.

  • The linear motor is available for linear transition motion, because of its advantages, the motor design and its application have gradually increased, but the quantitative measurement system of thrust force has not been generalized. Need analysis of correct thrust for control performance improvement of HB-LPM(HB-type Linear Pulse Motor). It is difficult to analyze HB-LPM's thrust. In this paper, HB-LPM's thrust is expressed to mathematical expression. And it is proved validity of this numerical formula by thrust measurement system. Two phase driver is composed. It is verified validity of numerical formula that measure waveform of electric current and voltage that is supplied in each phase.

  • In order to evaluate the thrust of a propulsion system, generally the captive thrust stand is used Based on the applied propulsion system, the various captive ways between thrust stand and the propulsion system are considered. In this paper, the effect of motor deformation generated during firing in horizontal thrust stand on the measured thrust is theoretically derived from classical beam theory. New flexure performance index is defined and estimated on the basis of the thrust measurement error. Its result is good agreement with numerical result of ABAQUS. This study showed that measurement reliability and safety of test can be highly upgraded, in case of two flexure-type captive thrust stand.

  • In this paper, a dual-servo type VCM (Voice Coil Motor) for the measuring of nano-level displacement and small thrust is proposed and developed. The shape of VCM for improving the resolution of displacement and ensuring a large displacement are presented. The FEM (finite element method) is utilized to analyze the characteristics of VCM that produces linear driving thrust and satisfies the thrust that the measurement system requires. The Prototype is fabricated and an experiment is performed in order to measure displacement. As a result of simulation and testing, the proposed VCM shows the applicable possibility for a nano-level measurement system.

  • In this paper the instantaneous thrust of a linear induction motor(LIM) with cage-type secondary is estimated by the line voltages and phase currents measurement when the LIM is fed by PWM inverter. The estimated thrust values according to various input frequencies are compared with the measured ones.

  • In the case of the general helicopter among rotorcraft, length of the rotor blade for thrust-generation is longer than that of fuselage and tail rotor is required in order to compensate moment of the fuselage. For those reasons, enough space for take-off and landing should be secured and an accessibility for building is low. Also, the accidents caused by tail rotor occur frequently. However, the case of counter-rotating has merits that tail rotor is unnecessary as well as length of the rotor blade can be shortened but has a weakness that the weight of body is increased. In the present study, aerodynamic force measurement on single rotor system equipped with NACA0012 airfoil, which has aspect ratio of 6 and chord length of 35.5 mm, was carried out. And measurement was conducted with blade which has a half size of the former blade by using single motor counter-rotating. Aerodynamic force measurement was acquired by using 6-component balances and coefficients of thrust and power were derived along the pitch angle varying from 0$^{\circ}$ to 90$^{\circ}$ with the increment of 10$^{\circ}$. Those aerodynamic force data will be utilized for the design and production of brand-new counter-rotating rotor blade system which has same thrust with single blade system and provides a good accessibility to building by reducing its blade length.

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) is achieving the Korea Space Launch Vehicle(KSLV) program according to National Space Technology Development Program. KSLV-I will be composed to liquid propellant(first stage) and solid propellant(second stage) propulsion system. The propulsion system of KSLV-I second stage is solid kick motor with high expansion ratio and its starting altitude is 300km high. In order to verify the performance of upper stage propulsion system designed to operate in the upper atmosphere, test facility which can simulate high altitude is needed. High Altitude Simulation Test Facility is composed to Thrust Measurement System, Control & Measurement system, Diffuser, SKID for cooling water supply to diffuser, CCTV, fire protection system and so on. • Thrust measuring is one of the crucial factor to decide the performance of a liquid rocket engine when the engine development test, especially for the combustion chamber, is implemented. Calculating the thrust from a combustion pressure is used when direct measuring the thrust is impossible, but direct measuring the thrust is necessary and various methods for doing it more precisely should be considered. This paper introduces the preliminary design concept about the new thrust measurement system for the vertical firing test stand, which is introduced domestically for the first time, of a liquid rocket engine combustion chamber.
