This paper presents a method for hand segmentation using depth information, and adaptive threshold by means of histogram analysis and color clustering in HSV color model. We consider hand area as a nearer object to the camera than background on depth information. And the threshold of hand color is adaptively determined by clustering using the matching of color values on the input image with one of the regions of hue histogram. Experimental results demonstrate 95% accuracy rate. Thus, we confirmed that the proposed method is effective for hand segmentation in variations of hand color, scale, rotation, pose, different lightning conditions and any colored background.
In this paper, the question whether the curvature of the minimum energy path can affect the dynamic threshold was tested using the boundary trajectory method developed by Chesnavich and coworkers. For nonreactive system, the MO EXP model potential surface was used with modified equilibrium distance to control the curvature. The results showed that there is no relation between the curvature and the dynamic threshold. In order to study the reactive system, a generalization of the boundary trajectory method was achieved to apply on the nonsymmetric system. We have found no correspondence between the curvature and the dynamic threshold of the system. It was also shown that the fate of the trajectories strongly depends on the shape of potential surface around the turning points along the symmetric stretch line.

Blur detection and segmentation play vital role in many computer vision applications. Among various methods, local binary pattern based methods provide reasonable blur detection results. However, in conventional local binary pattern based methods, the blur map is computed by using a fixed threshold irrespective of the type and level of blur. It may not be suitable for images with variations in imaging conditions and blur. In this paper we propose an effective method based on local binary pattern with adaptive threshold for blur detection. The adaptive threshold is computed based on the model learned through the multinomial logistic regression. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using different datasets. The comparative analysis not only demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method but also exhibits it superiority over the existing methods.

This paper proposes a new, adaptive Dead Reckoning model, called Dynamic Dead Reckoning , for Distributed Interactive Simulation and humanoid avatar systems. The proposed model can overcome the weak points of traditional Dead Reckoning caused by a fixed threshold and strong dependency on rotation event. This paper introduces new criteria for update message filtering , named as Update lifetime. The Dynamic Dead Reckoning keeps the balance between extrapolation fidelity and filtering performance by two component models, Variable Threshold Mechanism and Rotation Event model. The experimental results show that the proposed model can lower the increment rate of update traffic to the increase of rotation frequency without any significant loss of accuracy.

In this paper, an analytic model of sleep model operation in the IEEE 802.16e is investigated. A mobile subscribe. station (MSS) goes to sleep mode after negotiations with the base station (BS) and wakes up periodically for a short interval to check whether there is downlink traffic to it. If the arrival of traffic is notified, an MSS returns to wake mode. Otherwise, it again enters increased sleep interval which is double as the previous one. In order to consider the situation more practically, we propose the sleep mode starting threshold, during which MSS should await packets before it enters the sleep mode. By modifying the M/G/1 with multiple vacations model, energy consumption ratio(ECR) and average packet response time are calculated. Our analytic model provides potential guidance in determining the optimal parameters values such as sleep mode starting threshold, minimal sleep and maximal sleep window.
Uncertain factors in finical markets make the prediction of future returns and risk of asset much difficult. In this paper, a model, assuming the admissible errors on expected returns and risks of assets, assisted in the multiperiod mean variance portfolio selection problem is built. The model considers transaction costs, upper bound on borrowing risk-free asset constraints, cardinality constraints and threshold constraints. Cardinality constraints limit the number of assets to be held in an efficient portfolio. At the same time, threshold constraints limit the amount of capital to be invested in each stock and prevent very small investments in any stock. Because of these limitations, the proposed model is a mix integer dynamic optimization problem with path dependence. The forward dynamic programming method is designed to obtain the optimal portfolio strategy. Finally, to evaluate the model, our result of a meaning example is compared to the terminal wealth under different constraints.

In comparison with in-plane lasers, predicting the output power and differential quantum efficiency of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers(VCSELs) is very difficult due to the distributed Bragg reflector(DBR) layers. Therefore, effective cavity model and transfer matrix method have been adapted in order to calculate the output power and differential quantum efficiency The effective cavity model is inappropriate to calculate output power and differential quantum efficiency while it is practically adequate to calculate the threshold gain and threshold current density The reason is that the effective cavity model can not take account of the absorption in GaAs stack layer right below the metal aperture. In this paper, we have compared the threshold current and differential quantum efficiency calculated by using transfer matrix method with effective cavity model and we have made a study of the validity of the effective cavity model. Finally, we have confirmed the versatility of the transfer matrix method with these studies.

This paper has analyzed the change of threshold voltage for oxide structure of symmetric and asymmetric double gate(DG) MOSFET. The asymmetric DGMOSFET can be fabricated with different top and bottom gate oxide thickness, while the symmetric DGMOSFET has the same top and bottom gate oxide thickness. Therefore optimum threshold voltage is considered for top and bottom gate oxide thickness of asymmetric DGMOSFET, compared with the threshold voltage of symmetric DGMOSFET. To obtain the threshold voltage, the analytical potential distribution is derived from Possion's equation, and Gaussian distribution function is used as doping profile. We investigate for bottom gate voltage, channel length and thickness, and doping concentration how top and bottom gate oxide thickness influences on threshold voltage using this threshold voltage model. As a result, threshold voltage is greatly changed for oxide thickness, and we know the changing trend very differs with bottom gate voltage, channel length and thickness, and doping concentration.

We have analyzed adjacent cell dependency of threshold voltage shift caused by the cell to cell interference, and we proposed a 3-adjacent-cell model to model the pattern dependency of the threshold voltage shift. The proposed algorithm is verified by using MATLAB simulation and measurement results. In the experimental results, we found that accuracy of the proposed simple 3-adjacient-cell model is comparable to the widely used conventional 8-adjacient-cell model. The Bit Error Rate (BER) of LSB and of MSB is improved by 28.9% and 19.8%, respectively, by applying the proposed algorithm based on 3-adjacent-cell model to 20nm-class 2-bit MLC NAND flash memories.

Pear psylla, Caccopsylla pyricola (Homoptera: Psyllidae), is a serious insect pest in pear orchards. C. pyricola overwinters as adults under rough bark scales of pear trees. When the weather warms up in the spring, the overwintered adults become active, climb up to the tree branches, and inhabit on fruit twigs to lay eggs. This study was conducted to develop a forecasting model for the onset of upward-movement of overwintered C. pyricola adults to control them by timely spraying of petroleum oil. The adult population densities were observed under rough barks (B) and on fruit twigs (T) of pear trees. Relative upward-movement rates (R) were calculated as T/(B+T). Low threshold temperatures for the activation of overwintered C. pyricola adults were selected arbitrarily from 5 to $9^{\circ}C$ at a $1^{\circ}C$ interval. Then, the days (D) when daily maximum air temperatures were above each low threshold temperature were counted from 1 February until to the dates with R $\geq$ 0.8. The same methods were applied for the prediction of the first observation of eggs. The variation of coefficients (CV) for the mean Des were lowest with the low threshold temperature of $6^{\circ}C$. At this selected threshold temperature, the upward movement of C. pyricola adults occurred with 12 D and they started laying eggs with 25 D. In the field validation, the model outputs with the $6^{\circ}C$ threshold temperature reasonably well explained the observed data in Suwon and Cheonan in 2002. Practical usages of the model were also discussed.
