  • A patient who showed atypical orofacial pain after an endodontic treatment for a long time, was treated with non-analgesics such as vitamin $B_1, B_2, $ and Oral Balance, moisturizing gel. 1. It is important to manage xerostomic condition properly in the treatment of patients who have atypical orofacial pain 2. Simultaneous administration of vitamin $B_1 and B_2$ was effective in increasing pain threshold of the patient.

Modelling the Mode Behavior of Circular Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser

  • The design characteristics of circular vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers are studied by using a newly developed equivalent network. Optical parameters, such as the stop-band or the reflectivity of periodic mirrors and the resonance wavelength, are explored for the design of these structures. To evaluate the differential quantum efficiency and the threshold current density, a transverse resonance condition of modal transmission-line theory is also utilized. This approach dramatically reduces the computational time as well as gives an explicit insight to explore the optical characteristics of circular vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs).

  • A class of asymmetric ARCH processes is proposed via binary random power transformations. This class accommodates traditional nonlinear models such as threshold ARCH (Rabemanjara and Zacoian (1993)) and Box-Cox type ARCH models(Higgins and Bera (1992)). Stationarity condition of the model is addressed. Iterative least squares(ILS) and pseudo maximum like-lihood(PML) methods are discussed for estimating parameters and related algorithms are presented. Illustrative analysis for Korea Stock Prices Index (KOSPI) data is conducted.

  • We report the realization of the Yb/Tm co-doped silica glass optical fiber amplifier operating at 1470 nm upon 980 nm pumping. The energy transfer coefficient from Yb to Tm was estimated using the threshold condition of the optical amplifier.

  • In this study SOI MOSFET model of the structure with 4-terminals and 3-interfaces is proposed. An SOI MOSFET is modeled with the equivalent circuit considered the interface capacitances. Parameters of SOI MOSFET device are extracted, and the electrical characteristics due to back-bias change is simulated. In SOI-MOSFET model device we describe the characteristics of threshold voltage, subthreshold slope, maxium electrical field and drain currents in the front channel when the back channel condition move into accmulation, depletion, and inversion regions respectively.

  • The PVA(patterned vertical alignment) mode has a excellent dark state at normal direction. but they has a disclination area at divided domain region at voltage on state. so this disclination make a slow response time and decrease transmittance. To overcome this problem, we research about polymer stabilized vertical alignment (PS-VA) method which was using the UV curable reactive mesogen. According to our research, UV exposure condition which was UV dosage condition effected to rising time and decay time and also threshold voltage.

Skin Condition Estimation Using Mobile Handheld Camera

  • The fairly recent standard of equipping mobile devices with advanced imaging sensors has opened the possibility of conveniently diagnosing skin conditions, anywhere, anytime. For this application, we attempted to estimate skin conditions from a skin image taken by a mobile handheld camera. To estimate the skin conditions, we specifically identified three skin features (pigmentation, pores, and roughness) that can be measured quantitatively from a skin image. The experimental data indicate that the existing thresholding methods are inappropriate for extracting the pigmentation and pore skin features. Thus, we propose a new line-fitting based thresholding method for skin feature detection. We thoroughly evaluated our proposed skin condition estimation method using our skin image database. The experimental results show that our proposed thresholding method can better determine the threshold leading to the most visually plausible detection, when compared to existing methods. We also confirmed that skin conditions can be feasibly estimated using a common mobile handheld camera (for example, a smartphone).

액정 표시기의 화질 향상을 위한 중첩구동방식의 최적화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the optimization of overlap scanning method for the enhancement of display quality in LC Displays)

  • In this paper the optimized overlap driving scheme for improving the reduction problem of the operating voltage range occured by the overlap driving scheme proposed precedently and increasing the contrast ratio of screen image in the simple matrix LCDs is proposed. The characteristic estimation of the proposed method was performed in a condition that the number of scan electrodes was 120 and the threshold voltage of LC pixel was 2V and the overlap rate of scan signal was varied from 0% to 40% . As a result of estimation compared with the overlap driving scheme proposed precedently, this new method was certified as a method which it could increase the operating voltage range of the LC pixel by 16% in 20% overlap condition and it's operating voltage range was also increased very much with the increase of the overlap rate. Consequently this newly proposed method was certified as a method which it could maintain the improvement effect of the operating characteristics obtained by the overlap driving scheme proposed precedently with the big improvement in the contrast ratio of screen image.

  • Cylindrical plunge grinding is widely used for final machining process of precision parts such as automobile, aircraft, measurement units. But in order to make parts which have high precision accuracy and high surface integrity, it is necessary to consider grinding characteristics due to accumulation phenomena of grinding wheel in plunge grinding process. In this study, in order to examine closely plunge grinding process, grinding power, grinding force, real depth of cut are monitored in transient state, steady state and spark out state. As the result, it is shown that grinding power and force are affected by dressing condition, depth of cut and speed ratio and that there exist threshold grinding force and it also affected by dressing condition.   • The faults of a electric motor cause to rise the maintenance and repair cost and to reduce the reliability of the electric power system. In this paper, the auto fault detection system for a induction motor is developed using the torque signal spectrum analysis. The spectrum of motor torque signal is used for finding a bearing fault feature frequency. A threshold value, for detecting the motor bearing fault is set by the difference of torque signal spectrum(FFT signal) between normal condition and faulted condition of the motor.
