  • This paper proposed a new time adapted threshold using the standard deviations of Wavelet coefficients after Wavelet transform by frame scale. The time adapted threshold is set up using the sum of standard deviations of Wavelet coefficient in level 3 approximation and weighted level 1 detail. Level 3 approximation coefficients represent the voiced sound with low frequency and level 1 detail coefficients represent the unvoiced sound with high frequency. After reducing noise by soft thresholding with the proposed time adapted threshold, there are still residual noises in silent interval. To reduce residual noises in silent interval, a detection algorithm of silent interval is proposed. From simulation results, it is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm improves SNR and MSE performance more than Wavelet transform and Wavelet packet transform does.

  • The present study concerns the influence of binder type on the chloride-induced corrosion being accompanied by the chloride threshold level (CTL), chloride transport and as their results the corrosion-free lift. Two levels of cement content, $30\%$ PFA and $65\%$ GGBS concrete were employed. It was found that the most dominant factor to the CTL is the entrapped air void content at the steel-concrete interface, irrespective of the chloride binding capacity, binder type and acid neutralisation capacity of cement matrix. The CTL for lower interfacial air void contents was significantly increased up to $1.52\%$ by weight of cement, whereas a same mix produced $0.35\%$ for a higher level of voids. Because of a remarkable reduction in the diffusion fur GGBS concrete, its time to corrosion ranges from 255 to 1,250 days, while the corrosion-free life for control varies from 20 to 199 days sand for $30\%$ PFA concrete from 200 to 331 days.

  • Responded threshold level in hearing screening depends on the noise level of test surroundings, physiological characteristics of hearing organs, excessive sound source exposures, and so on. The purpose of this study is to obtain the basic information of hearing threshold level at each frequencies in children with passed hearing screening. Subjects were 110 children, aged were from 3.3 to 16.3 ($9.01{\pm}2.52$), who were at private speech language pathological clinics and daycare centers. Methods of Hearing screening were tympanometry, acoustic reflex threshold, automated otoacoustic emission, and pure tone screening. The subjects were in normal criteria of hearing screening. The differences of hearing threshold among ages and frequencies were measured by means of repeated measures ANOVA. The mean of hearing thresholds level was observed $16{\pm}6.49$, $11.5{\pm}4.79$, $6.86{\pm}4.99$, $5.95{\pm}6.65$ dB HL in the right ear and $15.68{\pm}6.01$, $9.95{\pm}5.24$, $5.72{\pm}5.21$, $5.63{\pm}7.04$ dB HL in the left ear, in frequency of 500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000 Hz respectively. There was a significant difference between 500 and 1,000, 2,000, 4,000 Hz (p=.000), between 1,000 and 2,000, 4,000 Hz (p=.000).

  • This paper considers a certain expense structure where a vendor of equity-linked investment product will collect its expenses continuously from the investor's account whenever the investment performance exceeds a certain threshold level. Under the Black-Scholes framework, we derive compact convolution formulas for evaluating the total expenses to be collected during the investment period by using the joint Laplace transform of the Brownian motion and its excursion time. We provide numerical examples for illustration.

  • An important problem in edge detection is to select a proper threshold that transforms the gradient picture to e two level picture containing optimum edges between regions, Such a threshold is determined depending on some measures of errors in tresholding. In this paper, an error criterion on extracting edges by thresholding the block gradient image is presented. Based on the error measure, the optimum threshold is chosen for the detection of acceptable edges.

  • The frequency analysis and the probability plot were applied to heavy metal contents of soils collected from the Goseong Cu mine area as a statistic method for the determination of the threshold value which was able to partition a population comprising largely dispersed heavy metal contents into the background and the anomalous populations. Almost all the heavy metal contents of soil showed a positively skewed distributions and their cumulative percentage frequencies plotted as a curved lines on logarithmic probability plot which represent a mixture of two or more overlapping populations. Total Cu, Pb and Cd data and extractable Cu and Pb data could be partitioned into background and anomalous populations by using the inflection in each curve. The others showed a normally distributed population or an largely overlapped populations. The threshold values obtained from replotted frequency distributions with the partitioned populations were Cu 400 mg/kg, Pb 450 mg/kg and Cd 3.5 mg/kg in total contents and Cu 40 mg/kg and Pb 12 mg/kg in extractable contents, respectively. The thresholds for total contents are much higher than the tolerable level of soil pollution proposed by Kloke(Cu 100 mg/kg, Pb 100 mg/kg, Cd 3 mg/kg), but those for extractable contents are not exceeded the worrying level of soil pollution proposed by Ministry of Environment(Cu 50 mg/kg, Pb 100 mg/kg). When the threshold values were used as the criteria of soil pollution in the study area, $9{\sim}19%$ of investigated soil population was in polluted level. The spatial distributions of heavy metal contents greater than threshold values showed that polluted soils with heavy metals are restricted within the mountain soils in the vicinity of abandoned mines.

  • Whitefly, Dialeuropora decempuncta (Quaintance rind Baker) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) has attained the major pest status in mulberry, causing 24% crop loss by sucking the leaf juice and manifesting leaf curl, chlorosis and sooty mould desease during monsoon season in West Bengal, India. The assessment of economic threshold revel is an essential component for formulating the management practices. Experiments were carried out by inoculating five different densities of whitefly viz.,10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 adults on covered mulberry plants in glass houses. From the findings, it was observed that irrespective of released density, no crop loss was observed in the initial period. But with the passing of days, the percent crop loss was increased rapidly. The linear relationship between percent crop loss and number of adults released was established to highlight the significance of economic threshold. The statistical analysis in the linear form of equation showed that initial population of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 whiteflies/plant causes 3%, 12%, 21%, 30% and 40% crop loss in a period of 28 days which is equivalent to 57 kg, 247 kg, 437 kg, 626 kg and 816 kg leaf/acre. Execution of management practices (spray of 0.01% monocrotophos) are economical to the farmer whenever the loss is above 247 kg/acre, but below which application of control measures is not economical. From this study, it can be inferred that the economic threshold level far whitefly is 20 individuals/plant beyond which a farmer has to take appropriate control measures.

  • The proposed algorithm can always set up the optimal threshold value regardless of channel characteristics using an adaptive threshold establishment method that determines the threshold level according to channel noise power, and then it uses the specially designed training symbols that can make the algorithm's estimation performance be less sensitive to power delay profile variation in a multipath channel. In result, the estimation performance of the proposed technique is less affected by channel characteristic variation.

  • We have investigated the threshold voltage shifts(${\Delta}Vth$) and drain current level shift (${\Delta}Ids$) in subthreshold region of a-Si:H TFTs induced by DC Bias (Vgs and Vds) - Temperature stress (BTS) condition. We plotted the transfer curves and the ${\Delta}Vth$ contour maps as Vds-Vds stress bias and Temperature to examine the severe damage cases on TFTs. Also, by drawing out the time-dependent transfer curve (Ids-Vgs) in the region of $10^{-8}\;{\sim}\;10^{-13}$ (A) current level, we can estimate the failure time of TFTs in a operating condition.
