  • The switching characteristics of $As_{10}Ge_{15}Te_{75}$ thin film were investigated under dc bias. It was found that the threshold voltage depends on thickness, electrode distance, annealing time and temperature, respectively. The threshold voltage is increased as the thickness and the electrode distance is increased, while the threshold voltage is decreased in proportion to the increased annealing time and temperature.

  • In this study, we proposed a new approach to segment ground and nonground points gained from a 3D laser range sensor. The primary aim of this research was to provide a fast and effective method for ground segmentation. In each frame, we divide the point cloud into small groups. All threshold points and start-ground points in each group are then analyzed. To determine threshold points we depend on three features: gradient, lost threshold points, and abnormalities in the distance between the sensor and a particular threshold point. After a threshold point is determined, a start-ground point is then identified by considering the height difference between two consecutive points. All points from a start-ground point to the next threshold point are ground points. Other points are nonground. This process is then repeated until all points are labelled.

  • In this paper, we propose new watermarking technique using weighting factor decision method in the watermark embedding step and adaptive threshold decision method in the watermark extracting step. In our method, we are determined weighting factor in simple by calculating distance between pixel coefficient and neighborhood pixel coefficients and threshold is adaptively determined by searching the minimized extract error value using histogram of difference value.

  • Evaluating the risk of collision quantitatively plays a key role in developing the expert system of navigation and collision avoidance. This study analysed thoroughly how to determine the threshold function related to the avoidance time as described in the new evaluation of collision risk using sech function, and developed the appropriate equation as applicable.

  • This paper proposes a hierarchical Hausdorff distance (HD) matching algorithm baased on coarse-to-fine approach. It reduces the computational complexity greatly by using the pyramidal structures consisting of distance transform (DT) and edge pyramids. Also, inthe proposed hierarchical HD matching, a thresholding method is presented to find an optimal matching position with small error, in which the threshold values are determined by using the property between adjacent level of a DT map pyramid. By computer simulation, the performance of the conventional and proposed hierarchical HD matching algorithms is compared in therms of the matching position for binary images containing uniform noise.

  • In a template-matchig-based speech recognition syste, excessive weight given to perceptually unimportant spectral variations is undesirable for discriminating among acoustically similar words. By introducing a simple threshold-type nonlinearity applied to the distance metric, the word recognition performance can be improved for a vocabulary with similar sounding words, without modifying the system structure.

  • In spectrum sensing, there is a tradeoff between the probability of missed detection and the probability of a false alarm according to the value of the sensing threshold. Therefore, it is important to determine the sensing threshold suitable to the environment of cognitive radio networks. In this study, we consider a cognitive radio-based ad hoc network where secondary users directly communicate by using the same frequency band as the primary system and control their transmit power on the basis of the distance between them. First, we investigate a condition in which the primary and the secondary users can share the same frequency band without harmful interference from each other, and then, propose an algorithm that controls the sensing threshold dynamically on the basis of the transmit power of the secondary user. The analysis and simulation results show that the proposed sensing threshold control algorithm has low probabilities of both missed detection and a false alarm and thus, enables optimized spectrum sharing between the primary and the secondary systems.

  • This paper propose the distance measurement algorithms using the 3-axis accelermeter sensor. This algorithms is based on the human gait charateristic. The proposed algorithms used the sampling data from the 3-axis accelermeter sensor. We improved the error rate as less than eight-percent compare the real movement distance with measured distance to apply the threshold value and the additional value according to the change of the acceleration value.

  • In the visible light (VL) communication based on the conventional LED lights, depending on the increase of the communication range, the signal received at the photodiode of the VL receiver has usually the random distorted and decreased amplitude due to the path loss and fading effects of the VL channel. In order to overcome this problem, we propose, design, and implement the visible light communication circuit based on the comparator threshold voltage, where has a built-in distance compensation function. In addition, the performance of the proposed technique is evaluated and analyzed depending on the distance and communication speed through comparing the proposed VLC system based on the threshold voltage with the conventional one.

  • Rail-mounted cranes can be easily damaged by a sudden gust of wind while working at a running speed, due to the large mass and high barycenter positions. In current designs, working rail-mounted cranes mainly depend on wheel braking torques to resist large wind load. Regular brakes, however, cannot satisfactorily stop the crane, which induces safety issues of cranes and hence leads to frequent crane accidents, especially in sudden gusts of wind. Therefore, it is necessary and important to study the braking performance of working rail mounted cranes under wind load. In this study, a simplified mechanical model was built to simulate the working rail mounted gantry crane, and dynamic analysis of the model was carried out to deduce braking performance equations that reflect the qualitative relations among braking time, braking distance, wind load, and braking torque. It was shown that, under constant braking torque, there existed inflection points on the curves of braking time and distance versus windforce. Both the braking time and the distance increased sharply when wind load exceeded the inflection point value, referred to as the threshold windforce. The braking performance of a 300 ton shipbuilding gantry crane was modeled and analyzed using multibody dynamics software ADAMS. The simulation results were fitted by quadratic curves to show the changes of braking time and distance versus windforce under various mount of braking torques. The threshold windforce could be obtained theoretically by taking derivative of fitted curves. Based on the fitted functional relationship between threshold windforce and braking torque, theoretical basis are provided to ensure a safe and rational design for crane wind-resistant braking systems.
