  • This paper presents a wavelet-fuzzy based controller for indirect field oriented control of three-phase induction motor drives. The discrete wavelet transform is used to decompose the error between the actual speed and the command speed of the induction motor drive into different frequency components. The transformed error coefficients along with the scaling gains are used for generating the control component of the motor. Self-tuning fuzzy logic is used for online tuning of the scaling gains of the controller. The proposed controller has the ability to meet the speed tracking requirements in the closed loop system. The complete indirect field oriented control scheme incorporating the proposed wavelet-fuzzy based controller is investigated theoretically and simulated under various dynamic operating conditions. The simulation results are compared with a conventional proportional integral controller and a fuzzy based controller. The speed control scheme incorporating the proposed controller is implemented in real time using a digital processor control board. Simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • The paper describes a novel technique for on line parameter identification of three-phase induction motors from a single, run up to speed test. Data is sampled during this test with the normal locked rotor and synchronous speed data captured on the way to reaching the motor's rated speed. Rotor parameter variations with frequency due to skin and proximity effects and other non-linear imperfections such as heating and main flux path saturation are taken into account. This method is ideal for determining and/or verifying parameters used in high performance drives.

  • A constant V/F control system of voltage contrlled PWM inverter has a unstable operation of the low- speed and the light-load. In this paper, the authors propose stability control with idealized operation of induction motor by the neglect of primary leakage inductance and resistance. Also ldealized operation system is adopted voltage error, feed back impedance circuit, and increasing resistance from dead time of switching is compensated by the soft ware with u-processors. The proposed simulation of the idealized control method is proved at the low-speed operation for three phase induction motor.

  • Recent high-end treadmills are demanding stable performance at lower speeds. In this study, a slip control-based induction motor sensorless algorithm for treadmills, which have heavy load variations, is proposed. A modified Gopinath flux estimator is used to evaluate the rotor flux. Results indicate that a good speed regulation performance is achieved even at a low speed of approximately 3 Hz with a nominal exercise load of 90 kg body weight. The slip calculation method in the stationary coordinate system is adopted to improve the control stability. The proposed algorithm is verified throughout the simulation study using PSIM, and the experimental test consists of a commercial treadmill system.

  • A miniature size electrostatic induction motor have been constructed and studied by applying a three phase ac power source with a maximum voltage of 5 KV and a variable frequency ranged 0.0 - 150 Hz. A maximum no load speed of the motor tested was about 7600 RPM at the applied voltage of 4330 volt and the frequency of 130 Hz for the case of the rotor surface material of polyprophylene sheet screen-printed $TiO_2$ powder on it. It is found that there are 3 different regions of the motor operation, a rotor stop region, a stable operation region and a high speed abnormal region. And it is also found that the motor speed is influenced greatly by the charge relaxation time constant of the rotor surface materials, which however was changed by the means of vapour-deposited Ti or Ni and screen-printed $TiO_2$ powder on the surface of the rotor material, polyprophylene.

  • In the overmodulation region, the operation of the three phase induction motor with a current controller is characterized by a rapid deterioration of the motor torque and speed. It is desirable to use the overmodulation strategy that extends the normal operating range even in this case. In this paper, a new overmodulation strategy is proposed for the high performance motor drives and the comparison study with two conventional methods are also described. In the proposed strategy, considering the motor dynamics, a suitable voltage vector is selected in order to extend the stable operating range in the overmodulation region. With this advanced overmodulation algorithm, the normal operating range can be extended without any extra hardware.

  • This thesis is about the study of inverter terminal boxes in a explosion proof type exhaust fan that can control wind volume and operating time. In Korea, there is no ventilator to adjust the amount of wind and operating time when working in poor conditions. The purpose of the project is to create a explosion terminal box that can control the operating time and wind speed of a suitable explosion ventilator in hazardous environments. The two explosion-proof switches allow the operation time to be driven 1 hour, 3 hours and continuous time, and the speed of the induction motor rotation was set in 3 stages at 2000 rpm, 2600 rpm and 3000 rpm to control the volume. The tested motor used a half-horsepower barrier three-phase induction motor and a full-bridge inverter to set the desired flow rate and operating time.

  • Conventional dryer systems use one induction motor to drive drum and fan. However, nowadays, dryer systems are necessary to use extra fan motor for reducing a drying-time. This fan motor should be variable-speed controlled motor to control drying-time according to the volume of clothes. This paper proposes 3-phase SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) having 12/8 structure for variable-speed fan motor of dryer system.

  • A method for the time step analysis of single phase induction motors is proposed. The unknown variables in differential equations are the currents flowing through rotor bars. They are coupled with the distributed magnetic flux densities in the airgap instead of inductance matrix while applying Kirchhoff's and Faraday's induction laws. Two patterns for magnetic flux densities are necessary. One is given by ideal stator winding distribution. the other is produced by currents flowing a rotor bar with unit magnitude and is calculated by FEM. Formulated set of equations are solved for a simple three phase and single phase example model and the resultant speed torque curve is shown in this paper.
