  • In this study, in order to improve visualization and enhance the ability of the surgeon to perform delicate endoscopic surgery, three dimensional endoscopic system is designed. These 3D systems have our features of stereoendoscopic image processing: real time image capture and retrieve; presentation of left and right image on a single monitor; separable processing of the left and right eye images; coding of the 3D endoscopic video. For 3D endoscopic video coding, three approaches are presented based on interlaced picture structure, side-field format structure, and simulcast technique. Experimental results and performances comparisons are presented and analyzed or these approaches. Digital video coding techniques are presented or 3D endoscopic video sequences by means of an MPEG-2 video coding.

  • In this paper, we present a method to automatically quantify the three-dimensional (3D) volume of red blood cells (RBCs) using off-axis digital holographic microscopy. The RBCs digital holograms are recorded via a CCD camera using an off-axis interferometry setup. The RBCs' phase image is reconstructed from the recorded off-axis digital hologram by a computational reconstruction algorithm. The watershed segmentation algorithm is applied to the reconstructed phase image to remove background parts and obtain clear targets in the phase image with many single RBCs. After segmenting the reconstructed RBCs' phase image, all single RBCs are extracted, and the 3D volume of each single RBC is then measured with the surface area and the phase values of the corresponding RBC. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method to automatically calculate the 3D volume of RBC, two typical shapes of RBCs, i.e., stomatocyte/discocyte, are tested via experiments. Statistical distributions of 3D volume for each class of RBC are generated by using our algorithm. Statistical hypothesis testing is conducted to investigate the difference between the statistical distributions for the two typical shapes of RBCs. Our experimental results illustrate that our study opens the possibility of automated quantitative analysis of 3D volume in various types of RBCs.

  • A computer-generated hologram(CGH) is made for three-dimensional image reconstruction of a virtual object which is a difficult to irradiate the laser light directly. One of the adverse effect factors is quantization of wave front computed by program when a computer-generated hologram is made. Amplitude element is not considered in Kinoform, it needs processing to reduce noise or false image. So several investigation was reported that the improvement of reconstructed image of Kinoform. Means to calculate the most suitable complex amplitude distribution are iterative algorithm, simulated annealing algorithm and genetic Algorithm. Error diffusion method reconstructed to separate the object as for the noise that originated in the quantization error. So it is efficient method to obtain high quality image with not many processing.

  • A new multi-planar interpolation technique for three dimensional medical image rendering is proposed. In medical imaging. resolution in the slice direction is usually much lower than those in the transverse planes. The proposed method is based on the solution of the Laplace's equation used in the electrostatics. In this approach. two contours in the source and destination planes for a given object is assumed to have equi-potentials. Some preprocessing and post-processing including scaling. displacement. rotation from the centers of mass are involved in the algorithm. The interpolation solution assumes mostly smoothing changes in between the source and destination planes. Simultaneous multiple interpolation planes are inherently obtained in the proposed method. Some experimental and simulation results are shown.

  • This study is regarding the autonomous navigation of the mobile robot which operates through a sensor, the Omnnidirectional Vision System which makes it possible to retrieve the real-time movements of the objects and the walls accessing the robot from all directions and to shorten the processing time. After attempting to extend the field of view by using the reflection system and then learning the point of all directions of 2$\pi$ from the robot at the distance, robot recognizes three-dimensional world through the simple image process, the transform procedure and constant monitoring of the angle and distance from the peripheral obstacles. This study consists of 3 parts: Part 1 regards the process of designing Omnnidirectional Vision System and part 2 the image process, and part 3 estimates the implementation system through the comparative study process and three-dimensional measurements.

  • VTK is a free but professional development platform for images three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction and processing. It is powerful, open-source, and users can customize their own needs by self-development of great flexibility. To give the doctors more and detailed information by simulate dissection to the 3-D brain MRI image after reconstruction. A Visualization System (VS) is proposed to achieve 3D brain reconstruction and virtual dissection functions. Based on the free VTK visualization development platform and Visual Studio 2010 IDE development tools, through C++ language, using real people's MRI brain dataset, we realized the images 3D reconstruction and also its applications and extensions correspondingly. The display effect of the reconstructed 3D image is well and intuitive. With the related operations such as measurement, virtual dissection and so on, the good results we desired could be achieved.

  • The segmentation of vessel including portal vein, hepatic vein and artery, from Computed Tomography (CT) images plays an important role in the therapeutic strategies for hepatic diseases. Representing segmented vessels in three dimensional spaces is extremely useful for doctors to plan liver surgery. In this paper, proposed method is focused on smoothing technique of segmented 3D liver vessels, which derived from 3D region growing approach. A pixel expand algorithm has been developed first to avoid vessel lose and disconnection cased by the next smoothing technique. And then a binary volume filtering technique has been implemented and applied to make the segmented binary vessel volume qualitatively smoother. This strategy uses an iterative relaxation process to extract isosurfaces from binary volumes while retaining anatomical structure and important features in the volume. Hard and irregular place in volume image has been eliminated as shown in the result part, which also demonstrated that proposed method is a suitable smoothing solution for post processing of fine vessel segmentation.
