Since the IB (Immersed Boundary) method, which can perform coupling analysis with objects and fluids having an impermeable boundary of arbitrary shape on a fixed grid system, has been developed, the IB method in various CFD models is increasing. The representative IB methods are the directing-forcing method and the ghost cell method. The directing-forcing type method numerically satisfies the boundary condition from the fluid force calculated at the boundary surface of the structure, and the ghost-cell type method is a computational method that satisfies the boundary condition through interpolation by placing a virtual cell inside the obstacle. These IB methods have a disadvantage in that the computational algorithm is complex. In this study, the simplified immersed boundary (SIB) method enables the analysis of temporary structures on a fixed grid system and is easy to expand to three proposed dimensions. The SIB method proposed in this study is based on a one-field model for immiscible two-phase fluid that assumes that the density function of each phase moves with the center of local mass. In addition, the volume-weighted average method using the density function of the solid was applied to handle moving solid structures, and the CIP method was applied to the advection calculation to prevent numerical diffusion. To examine the analysis performance of the proposed SIB method, a numerical simulation was performed on an object falling to the free water surface. The numerical analysis result reproduced the object falling to the free water surface well.
The change of microstructures in the base metal during transient liquid phase bonding process of directionally Ni base superalloy, GTD-111 was investigated. Bonds were fabricated using a series of holding times(0-7.2ks) at three different temperatures(1403, 1418 and 1453K) under a vacuum of 13.3mPa. In raw material, ${\gamma}$- ${\gamma}$' eutectic phases, platelet η phases, MC carbide and PFZ were seen in interdendritic regions or near grain boundary and size of primary ${\gamma}$' precipitates near interdendritic regions were bigger than core region. The primary ${\gamma}$' precipitates in dendrite core were dissolved early in bonding process, but ${\gamma}$' precipitates near interdendritic regions were dissolved partially and shape changed. The dissolution rate increased with increasing temperature. Phases in interdendritic regions or near pain boundary continually changed with time at the bonding temperature. In the bonding temperature of 1403K, eutectic phases had not significantly changed, but η phases had transformed from platelet shape to needle morphology and PFZ region had widened with time. The interdendritic region and near pain boundary were liquated partially at 1423k and fully at 1453k by reaction of η phases and PFZ. In the bonding temperature of 1453K, interdendritic region and near pain boundary were liquated and then new phases which mixed with η phases, PFZ and MC carbide crystallized during cooling. Crystallized η phases transformed from rod shape to platelet shape with increasing holding time.
In this paper, we prove existence of infinitely many positive and concave solutions, by means of a simple approach, to $3^{th}$ order three-point singular boundary value problem {$x^{\prime\prime\prime}(t)=\alpha(t)f(t,x(t))$, 0 < t < 1, $x(0)=x'(\eta)=x^{\prime\prime}(1)=0$, (1/2 < $\eta$ < 1). Moreover with respect to multiplicity of solutions, we don't assume any monotonicity on the nonlinearity. We rely on a combination of the analysis of the corresponding vector field on the phase-space along with Knesser's type properties of the solutions funnel and the well-known Krasnosel'ski$\breve{i}$'s fixed point theorem. The later is applied on a new very simple cone K, just on the plane $R^2$. These extensions justify the efficiency of our new approach compared to the commonly used one, where the cone $K\;{\subset}\;C$ ([0, 1], $\mathbb{R}$) and the existence of a positive Green's function is a necessity.
The present research is concerned to study the effect of fractional parameter and rotation on the propagation of Rayleigh waves in an orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic media with three-phase-lags in the context of fractional order theory of generalized thermoelasticity with combined effect of rotation and hall current. The secular equations of Rayleigh waves are derived by using the appropriate boundary conditions. The wave properties such as phase velocity, attenuation coefficient are computed numerically and the numerical simulated results are presented through graphs to show the effect on all the components. Some special cases are also discussed in the present investigation.
Most material of engineering interest undergoes solidification process from liquid to solid state. Identifying the underlying mechanism during solidification process is essential to determine the microstructure of material which governs the physical properties of final product. In this paper, we expand our previous two-dimensional numerical technique to three-dimensional simulation for computing dendritic solidification process with fluid convection. We used Level Contour Reconstruction Method to track the moving liquid-solid interface and Sharp Interface Technique to correctly implement phase changing boundary condition. Three-dimensional results showed clear difference compared to two-dimensional simulation on tip growth rate and velocity.

The high-temperature deformation mechanisms of a ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V), near-a titanium alloy (Ti-6.85Al-1.6V) and a single-phase a titanium alloy (Ti-7.0Al-1.5V) were deduced within the framework of inelastic-deformation theory. For this purpose, load relaxation tests were conducted on three alloys at temperatures ranging from 750 to $950^{\circ}C$. The stress-versus-strain rate curves of both alloys were well fitted with inelastic-deformation equations based on grain matrix deformation and grain-boundary sliding. The constitutive analysis revealed that the grain-boundary sliding resistance is higher in the near-${\alpha}$ alloy than in the two-phase ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ alloy due to the difficulties in relaxing stress concentrations at the triple-junction region in the near-${\alpha}$ alloy. In addition, the internal-strength parameter (${\sigma}^*$) of the near-${\alpha}$ alloy was much higher than that of the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ alloy, thus implying that dislocation emission/ slip transfer at ${\alpha}/{\alpha}$ boundaries is more difficult than at ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ boundaries.

A sonar dome is basically designed and installed to protect sonar array from shocks, sea wave slaps and floating matters. The acoustic wave passing through sonar dome, however, can be distorted in magnitude and phase. This paper presents a numerical method for predicting the steady-state sound pressure on the surface of transducer array in the sonar dome and typical results of sonar beam pattern affected by sonar dome. A beam tracing model with phase information and a multi-layered elastic boundary model are involved. A full three-dimensional sonar dome is modeled as a GRP acoustic window, a rubber coated steel baffle and a rubber coated steel hull. A transducer array is modeled as thick steel cylinder. There are some assumptions such as incidence of plane wave, specular reflection on boundary and directionality of transducer element.
The shape of weld nuggest in arc spot welding of 304 stainless steel was found by searching thermal history of a weld joint through a three-dimensional finite element model. The problem consists of one in which the finite element mesh is growing continuously in time in order to accomodate metal transfer in arc spot welding using element rebirth technique. The analysis was performed on the basis of experimental results. The finite element program MARC, along with a few user subroutines, was employed to obtain the numerical results. Temperature-dependent thermal properties, stir effect in weld pool, effect of phase transformation, and the convective and radiative boundary conditions are included in the model. Numerically predicted shape of weld nuggest is compared with the experimentally observed shape.
The present work is considered to study the two-dimensional problem in an orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic media and examined the effect of thermal phase-lags and GN-theories on Rayleigh waves in the light of fractional order theory with combined effect of rotation and hall current. The boundary conditions are used to derive the secular equations of Rayleigh waves. The wave properties such as phase velocity, attenuation coefficient are computed numerically. The numerical simulated results are presented graphically to show the effect of phase-lags and GN-theories on the Rayleigh wave phase velocity, attenuation coefficient, stress components and temperature change. Some particular cases are also discussed in the present investigation.
Mechanical and electrical performance of anode-supported SOFC single cells were analyzed after thermal cyclic operation. The experiments of thermal cyclic cell-operation were carried out four times and performance of each cell was measured at different temperatures of 650, 700, and $750^{\circ}C$, respectively. As increasing the number of thermal cycle test, single cells showed poor I-V characteristics and lower 4-point bending strength. The anode polarization was also measured by AC-impedance analysis. The observation of the microstructure of the anodes in single cells proved that the average particle size of Ni decreased and the porosity of anode increased. It is thought that the thermal cycle caused the degradation of performance of single cells by reducing the density of three-phase boundary region.
