The three dimensional inviscid transonic cascade flow was investigated numerically, incorporation a four stage Runge-Kutta integration method proposed by Jameson. Time marching to the steady state was accelerated by using optimum time step and enthalpy damping. In describing the boundary conditions at inlet and outlet, Riemann invariants are considered. By adding a second and a fourth order artificial viscocities, the numerical instability due to the propagation of undamped disturbance or the rapid change of state near the shock has been prevented. The numerical results for are bump cascade, cambered two dimensional turbine cascade and three dimensional stator cascade agreed reasonably well with previous results. It has been known that the accuracy of the solution depended a lot on the modeling of the leading or trailing edge.
Most of numerical analyses for injection molding have been based on the Hele Shaw's approximation: two-dimensional flow analysis. In some cases, that approximation causes significant errors due to loss of geometrical information as well as simplification of the flow characteristics along the thickness direction. The present work covers numerical analyses of injection molding using three-dimensional solid elements. The accuracy of the analysis results has been verified through some numerical examples in comparison with the classical shell-based approach. The Proposed approach is then applied to predict product defects and to improve flow characteristics for a precision electronics part. In addition, design of experiment has been utilized in order to find the optimal process conditions for better product quality.

Three-dimensional blood flow in the sac of the KTAH(Korean total artificial heart) is simulated using fluid-structure interaction model. The aim of this study is to delineate the three-dimensional unsteady-blood flow in the sac of KTAH. Incompressible viscous flow is assumed for blood using the assumption of Newtonian fluid. The numerical method employed in this study is the finite element software called ADINA. Fluid-structure interaction model between blood and sac is utilized to represent the deformation of the sac by the rigid moving actuator. Three-dimensional geometry of cactus type KTAH is chosen for numerical model with prescribed pressure boundary condition on the sac surface. Blood flow is generated by the motion of moving actuator and strongly interacts with the solid material surrounding blood. High shear stress is observed mainly near the inlet and outlet of the sac.
In the present study, a three-dimensional least square/level set based two-phase flow code was developed for the simulation of three-dimensional sloshing problems using finite element discretization. The present method can be utilized for the analysis of a free surface flow problem in a complex geometry due to the feature of FEM. Since the finite element method is employed for the spatial discretization of governing equations, an unstructured mesh can be naturally adopted for the level set simulation of a free surface flow without an additional load for the code development except that solution methods of the hyperbolic type redistancing and advection equations of the level set function should be devised in order to give a bounded solution on the unstructured mesh. From the numerical experiments of the present study, it is shown that the proposed method is both robust and accurate for the simulation of three-dimensional sloshing problems.
The supersonic flows around tandem cavities were investigated by two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical simulations using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation with the k- ω turbulence model. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves, and the acoustic effect transmitted from wake flow to upstream. The upwind TVD scheme based on the flux vector split with van Leer's limiter was used as the numerical method. Numerical calculations were performed by the parallel processing with time discretizations carried out by the 4th-order Runge- Kutta method. The aspect ratios of cavities are 3 for the first cavity and 1 for the second cavity. The ratio of cavity interval to depth is 1. The ratio of cavity width to depth is 1 in the case of three dimensional flow. The Mach number and the Reynolds number were 1.5 and $4.5{\times}10^5$, respectively. The characteristics of the dominant frequency between two- dimensional and three-dimensional flows were compared, and the characteristics of the second cavity flow due to the first cavity flow was analyzed. Both two dimensional and three dimensional flow oscillations were in the 'shear layer mode', which is based on the feedback mechanism of Rossiter's formula. However, three dimensional flow was much less turbulent than two dimensional flow, depending on whether it could inflow and outflow laterally. The dominant frequencies of the two dimensional flow and three dimensional flows coincided with Rossiter's 2nd mode frequency. The another dominant frequency of the three dimensional flow corresponded to Rossiter's 1st mode frequency.
Numerical simulation is made of the three-dimensional wave breaking motion about a part of a floating offshore structure containing a circular cylinder mounted vertically onto a lower hull in regular periodic gravity wave generated by a numerical wave maker. TUMMAC-VIII finite-difference method is newly developed for such a problem. By use of density-function technique the three-dimensional wave breaking motion is approximately implenented in the framework of rectangular grid system. A porosity technique is devised for the implementation of the no-slip bydy boundary conditions. The generation of breaking waves by the interaction of incident waves with the structure is well simulated and interesting features of breaking waves are revealed with containing degree of quantitative and qualitative accuracy.
Generally flight vehicles have many cavities such as wheel wells, bomb bays and windows on their external surfaces and the flow around these cavities makes separation, vortex, shock and expansion waves, reattachment and other complex flow phenomenon. The flow around the cavity makes abnormal and three-dimensional noise and vibration even thought the aspect ratio (L/D) is small. The cavity giving large effects to the flow might make large noise, cause structural damage or breakage, harm the aerodynamic performance and stability, or damage the sensitive devices. In this study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's $\kappa-\omega$ turbulence model. The MPI(Message Passing Interface) parallelized code was used for calculations by PC-cluster. The cavity has the aspect ratios of 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 with the W/D ratio of 2 for three-dimensional cavities. The Sound Pressure Level (SPL) analysis was done with FFT to check the dominant frequency of the cavity flow. The dominant frequencies were analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formula and Ahuja& Mendoza's experimental datum.
The flight vehicles have cavities such as wheel wells and bomb bays. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves. Resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect aerodynamic performance and stability. In the present study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's ${\kappa}\;-\;{\omega}$ turbulence model. The cavity has the aspect ratios of 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 for two-dimensional case, same aspect ratios with the W/D ratio of 2 for three-dimensional case. The Mach and Reynolds numbers are 0.53 and 1,600,000 respectively. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with a feedback mechanism. Based on the SPL(Sound Pressure Level) analysis of the pressure variation at the cavity trailing edge, the dominant frequency was analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formula. The MPI(Message Passing Interface) parallelized code was used for calculations by PC-cluster.

Flow characteristics inside a 10 inch ball valve have been analyzed using three-dimensional numerical analysis and experiments. Continuity and three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been used as governing equations for the numerical analysis. The numerical model has been constructed through the grid dependency test and validation with the results of experiments to ensure reliability and numerical effectiveness. The shear stress transport (SST) model has been used as the turbulence closure. The experimental test-rig has been constructed to measure pressure, temperature and flow rate along the pipeline. Some valve opening angles have been tested to evaluate the flow characteristics inside the ball valve and pipeline. The results show that the rapid pressure variations is observed while the valve opening angle decreases, which caused by flow separation at the downstream of the ball valve.
