  • In this paper, a new continuous-time current-mode integrator as basic building block of the low-voltage analog current-mode active filters was proposed. Compared to the current-mode integrator which was proposed by Zele, the proposed current-mode integrator had higher unity gain frequency and output impedance in addition to lower power dissipation. And also, a current-mode third-order lowpass active filter was designed with the proposed current-mode integrator. The designed circuits were fabricated using the ORBIT's 1.2.mu.m double-poly double-metal CMOS n-well process. The experimental resutls of the active filter designed and fabricated for this research have shown that it has the performance of 44.5MHz cutoff frequency, 3.3mW power dissipation and the third-order active filter area was 0.12mm$^{2}$.

  • The recent study was examined the effects of stress related to self-esteem upon the types of deficiency, the genders, the grades. A Questionnaire was distributed to 172 elementary school students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. The results of this study were as follows : First, children's stresses were related to their self-esteem and their self-esteem was explained mostly by the stress from home environment. Second, children's stress upon the birth order was higher in the first than in the second and the third birth order. Third, their self-esteem was explained mostly by the support from friends, teachers, and academic fields. Forth, children's stress of divorced and separated families as a reason of deficiency was higher than their stress upon the separation by death.

  • This paper deals with the relationship between zeros and step response of the second and third order LTI(Linear Time Invariant) SISO(Single-Input and Single-Output) systems. As well known, if a system has a single unstable zero, it shows the step response with undershoot and, on the other hand, a stable zero slower than the dominant pole causes the system to have the step response with overshoot. Generally, in the case of a system with two unstable real zeros, it is known to have B type undershoot[7]. But there are many complex cases of the step response extrema corresponding to zeros location in third order systems. This paper investigates the whole cases depending on DC gains of the additive equivalence systems and they are to be classified by the region of zeros which are related to the shape of the step response. Moreover, monotone nondecreasing conditions are proposed in the case of complex conjugate zeros as well as the case of two stable zeros.

  • The intermodulation distortion(IMD) due to laser diode nonlinearity of an asynhcronous direct sequence code diviion multiple access(DS/CDMA) system in wireless-optical transmission system model is analzed. A third order polynomial is used to represent laser diode nonlinearity. In DS/CDMA system, only one harmonic of the third-order intermodulation term falls on the signal frequency band and influences the system performance characteristics. To cancel multi-user interference and nonlinear distortion in a DS/CDMA wireless-optical transmission system model, the simple transversal filter structure with N-taps of (N-1) tap delay of 1 chip time delay line is used. It is necessary to select an optimal modulation index that provides a maximum signal-to-noise ratio and the results are useful for CDMA system design.

  • Recently semiconductor doped glasses have attracted attention as nonlinear optical materials because of their large third order nonlinear optical properties. The transparent and homogeneous CdS-doped SiO2 glass thin films were obtained by the dip=coating process of the sol-gel method. Thin films were consisted of glasses containing CdS microcrystallites which were formed by dissolved Cd2+ and S2- ions in a SiO2 matrix solutions. A subsequent thermal treatment of this samples led the formation of colloidal agglomerates and finally of microcrystallites. The size of CdS microcrystallites was about 4 to 15 nm after thermal treatments at various heating conditions. From the optical absorption spectra of the CdS-doped SiO2 glass films it was found that the absorption edge was blue-shifted compared with that of the bulk CdS crystal(~2, 4 eV) and that the amount of energy shift was inversely proportional to the crystal size. And the band gap energy increased with the decrease in crystallite size indicating that the quantum size effects occured.

  • The third order nonlinear optical susceptibilities, {{{{ chi }}(3), of the CuCl doped alumino-borosilicate glasses were measured by the two beam configuration DFWM method and the absorption saturation method, and the measured {{{{ chi }}(3) values were about 10-8 esu in both methods. The response time was estimated to be about 105ps from the time decay curve of the luminescence spectra obtained by time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) method.

  • In this paper, a Gm-C filter for low voltage and low power applications using a fully-differential transconductor is presented. The designed transconductor using the series composite transistors and the low voltage composite transistors has wide input range at low supply voltage. A negative resistor load (NRL) technology for high DC gain of the transconductor is employed with a common mode feedback (CMFB). As a design example, the third-order Elliptic lowpass filter is designed. The designed filter is simulated and examined by HSPICE using 0.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS n-well parameters. The simulation results show 105MHz cutoff frequency and 2.4㎽ power dissipation with a 2.5V supply voltage.

  • A two-dimensional stepped wall jet was numerically investigated by applying three different models : One is the standard k-.epsilon. and the other is the modified k-.epsilon. model which takes account of the streamline curvature effect by modifying the Reynolds shear stress and a source term in the dissipation equation, and a third is curvature dependent third-order correlation model. In order to test the influences of the numerical result, both the upwind scheme and the skew-upwind scheme were sued for the computations. By comparing the numerical results with available experiments, it was found that the modified k-.epsilon. model gives best overall prediction accuracy only when the numerical diffusion is eliminated by using the skew-upwind scheme. The numerical scheme was found to have more pronounced effect on the accuracy of the turbulence computation than the turbulence models.

  • There are total eight degrees of freedom in designing a three-mirror system. If we correct four kinds of third order aberrations and the system should have the specified effective focal length, the remaining three degrees of freedom can be used for selecting a suitable configuration for a specific application. We suggest an analytic design procedure for a three-mirror telescope system which has a suitably sized secondary mirror and proper separations between mirrors, and is corrected for four kinds of third order aberrations, spherical aberration, coma, astigmatism, and field curvature. Two design examples are shown. One has a compact configuration with off-axial field, the other has relatively long configuration with annular ring field.

  • Numerical methods are developed to obtain the buckling loads and to analyze the postbuckling behavior of the tapered steel piles. The nondimensional differential equations governing the elastica of the buckled piles are derived by the third order theory and solved numerically. The Runge-Kutta method is used to solve the differential equations, and the bisection method is used to obtain the buckling loads and the reaction moments of the clamped ends. Both the linear and stepped taper of the steel piles are considered as the variable crosssection in the differential equations. As the numerical results, the equilibrium paths, the buckling loads vs. section ratio curves and the typical elastica and the bending moment diagrams of the buckled piles are presented in figures. Experimental studies that complement the theoretical results are presented. It is expected that the numerical methods developed in this study for calculating the buckling loads and analyzing the postbuckling behavior of the steel piles are used in the structural and foundation engineering.
