A Fundamental Study on the Welding Deformation of Plate by Using F.E.M. (유한요소법에 의한 평판의 용접 변형에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • When structures are constructed by welding, heat conduction brings welding deformation. This is accompanied by complicated mechanical phenomenon such as material nonlinear and geometric nonlinear behavior. Hitherto, the research of welding deformation has been accomplished by an analytical method and experimental data in Korea. In this paper, the computer program by F.E.M.(finite element method) which could analyze the deformation of thin plate considering phenomena(both material and geometric nonlinear behavior) has been developed and verified. The production mechanism and characteristics in the welding deformation of plate are studied by the results.

  • There are many problems in present truss-deck slab system for example welding defect, segregation, water leakage, rust and tarnish etc. These problems may be caused by spot welding thin galvanized steel plate and lattice bar. The TOX Joining Systems is to join metal sheets of different material and thickness with and without coating or painting without adding heat or a joining part. Newly developed TOX-deck slab system using non-welding joint is free from above mentioned problems. The objects of this study are suggestion of design strength of TOX joint by experimental and statistical analyses and development of window based program to design the TOX-deck slab system.

  • Residual stress caused in the weldments with high restraint force are often during welding observed in the weldments of large size nozzles or radial tanks. The reason is that quantitative analysis about thermal stresses during welding is lack for this weldments. To verify FEM theory, the temperature was measured with thermocouple in a real time in this paper. Also analysis of the thermal stress for welding condition is performed by ABAQUS program package on various welding condition in STS butt welding.

A Study on Welding Distortion of GTA Circular Type Lap Joint in STS304L Thin Plate (STS304L 박판 원형 겹치기 GTA 용접부의 용접 변형 예측에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the welding distortion of the circular type lap joint in STS304L of 0.7mm thickness by using FEA. In order to do it, a heat input model for GTA welding process with non-consumable electrode was established through comparing the molten pool shapes and temperature distributions obtained by both FEA and experiment. With the heat input model, the welding distortion of the circular type lap joint was evaluated by 3-D FEA. From FEA results, it was found that 3-D FEA with proper heat input model can be used for the evaluation of the excessive distortion of the circular type lap joint of STS304L thin plate. In addition, the root cause of the excessive distortion in the weld was also identified as the excessive compressive residual stress in the tangential direction of the weld.

  • The Friction spot dissimilar welding of galvanized steel/Al6061-T6 was performed to investigate the mechanical characteristics of the joints. The presence of thin film of aluminum oxide on the surface and melting of zinc in the coating, made substandard joint characteristics for dissimilar Friction spot joining(FSJ) performed with out removing the coating. Where as, for dissimilar FSJ of galvanized steel/Al6061-T6 after removing the coating, superior agitation and welding quality has been obtained for a configuration of galvanized steel as the upper plate and Al6061-T6 as lower plate. The results from tensile tests and microscopic examination for various combinations of the welding parameters have been presented.

Characteristics of Fiber Laser Lap Welding of Pure Aluminum Multi-thin Plate (순수 알루미늄 다층 박판의 Fiber 레이저 겹치기 용접 특성)

  • In this study, we analyzed and compared the ultrasonic welding with the laser welding for the pure aluminium thin plates in a series of secondary lithium-ion batteries which are currently being produced by the ultrasonic welding; and performed the experiment for the purpose of the preceding study to replace the ultrasonic welding method with the laser welding method. As a result, the weld width of ultrasonic welding was 5mm, but that of laser welding was about 1~1.5 mm. As a result of tension test, the tensile strength was high when the pulse duration hour was short at the low peak power, while the high tensile strength was achieved when the pulse duration hour was long at the high peak power. The value of tensile strength was higher in the ultrasonic welding while the laser welding showed a maximum 45% better result as for the welding width.
