  • In this paper, we propose a smart thermostat temperature set-point control method based on machine learning and rule engine, which controls thermostat's temperature set-point so that it can achieve energy savings as much as possible without sacrifice of occupants' comfort while users' preference usage pattern is respected. First, the proposed method periodically mines data about how user likes for heating (winter)/cooling (summer) his or her home by learning his or her usage pattern of setting temperature set-point of the thermostat during the past several weeks. Then, from this learning, the proposed method establishes a weekly schedule about temperature setting. Next, by referring to thermal comfort chart by ASHRAE, it makes rules about how to adjust temperature set-points as much as low (winter) or high (summer) while the newly adjusted temperature set-point satisfies thermal comfort zone for predicted humidity. In order to make rules work on time or events, we adopt rule engine so that it can achieve energy savings properly without sacrifice of occupants' comfort. Through experiments, it is shown that the proposed smart thermostat temperature set-point control method can achieve better energy savings while keeping human comfort compared to other conventional thermostat.

  • In this study, we investigated the operating method of a driver for an air conditioning system according to the temperature difference between the indoor and outdoor environments of a car parked outside during the summer. Researchers of this study suggest the comfort mode of a car air conditioner to improve the thermal comfort of the driver, thereby maintaining longer comfort. This study separately, analyzed temperatures on a cloudy day and sunny day. The results showed the car indoor heat environment and physiological results (EEG, ECG) of the subject. It showed a difference of the car indoor heat environment by weather with the difference also appearing in the physiological response of the subject. In conclusion, in this paper, on the basis of the physiological response of a subject, a comfortable algorithm of automobile air conditioner is being suggested.

  • This thesis is dealt with the thermal environment, the indoor air environment, the sound environment and the light environment in P.C apartment house. The purpose of this study is to analyze degrees of 'the cognition'. 'the importance', and ‘the satisfaction' on indoor environmental factors and to evaluate comfort of indoor environment based on residents' responses. The questionnaire survey was given to the residents at P.C apartment complex in Rowon-Gu, Seoul. The following are the results obtained in this thesis. The results of Path analysis on comfort revealed that factors of direct effect to comfort were the satisfaction on indoor air environment and sound environment and the cognition on indoor air environment and sound environment. The satisfaction on indoor air environment was the biggest variable which decided the comfort. By the survey of P.C apartment residents' responses, the level of P.C apartment indoor comfort was found uncomfortable. It is meaningful to su99est the model evaluating comfort by residents' responses .

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the thermophisiological responses and subjective wearing comfort for the six lining fabrics of one-piece dress in summer environment. There were significant differences in the microclimate, the mean skin temperature and the subjective wear comfort for the lining fabrics. The mean skin temperature of rayon and acetate were lower than that of synthetic fiber. The wearing comfort of rayon and acetate were better than that of synthetic fiber. There were clear correlations between the mechanical properties and the subjective wear comfort of lining fabrics. The hygroscopicity and density of textile affected the humidity and tactile sensation of dress, and they were important factors determining the wearing comfort of one-piece dress.

  • This study was carried out to investigate effects of fabric properties and the changes of microclimates on comfort sensations and to identify effective varuables on clothing wear comfort sensations. A wied range of nontreated and functionally treated woven fabrics, knits, and nonwoven fabrics and test garments made of them were used as specimens. Linear structural equation was used to analyze causal relation among the variables on a path diagram. The results were as follows: 1. Almost of causal relations among variables were significant excdpt the effects of fabric properties including air permeability and water-vapor permebility on the changes of microclimate temperature. 2. Fabric properties were most effective variables on clothing wear comfort sensations including thermal sensation, subjeceive wettedness, and overall comfort and therefore comfort sensations and fabric properties were identified for improving clothing comfort.

  • In this paper, thermal comfort and ventilation performance characteristics in the lecture room with the ventilation system and two different air-conditioning systems, system air-conditioner or fan coil unit, were evaluated by experimental and numerical methods. We compared the measured data with the computational results of the predicted mean vote and carbon dioxide concentration. Additionally the ventilation effectiveness was calculated numerically. From a viewpoint of the uniformity of PMVs in the lecture room, the thermal distribution performance of the system air-conditioner was more effective than the fan coil unit. Carbon dioxide concentration and ventilation effectiveness were barely affected by the type of the air-conditioning system.

  • This paper focused on the analysis of the thermal comfort conditions in 1,000 ton class patrol ship's cabins through the evaluation of PMV(predicted mean vote) and PPD(predicted percentage of dissatisfied). Different areas have different clothing and activity in the ship. Therefore, any area may be thermally uncomfortable in case of air conditioning with equal temperature, relative humidity and relative air velocity. PMV or PPD-DCAC (demand controlled air conditioning) system is a new design that the whole cabins are maintainable with the ideal thermal comfort condition.

  • In this study, wool/nylon(50/50%) blend yarn and its fabrics for tra-biz(complex word of travel+business) garment were prepared, and its wear comfort characteristics were investigated through thermal manikin and human-body wearing experiment. In addition, tactile wearing performance from fabric mechanical properties and the dimensional stability and the pilling of the fabric specimen during wearing and dry-cleaning were measured and compared with those of wool 100% fabric specimen. Heat keepability of the wool/nylon(50/50%) blend fabric by thermal manikin experiment was superior than that of wool 100% fabric, this result was verified with human-body wearing experiment and its result coincided well with this experimental result. Tactile wearing performance of the wool/nylon(50/50%) fabric from fabric mechanical properties measured by FAST system was better than that of the wool 100% fabric. The dimensional stability of the wool/nylon(50/50%) fabric was more stable than that of the wool 100% fabric. Because relaxation shrinkage was lower and hygral expansion of wool 100% fabric was more high. However, the breathability and pilling property of the wool/nylon(50/50%) fabric were inferior than those of the wool 100% fabric. The possibility of application for tra-biz garment of wool/nylon(50/50%) blend fabric was observed because of good heat keepability, tactile wearing performance and washing fastness.

  • This study aims to analyzed thermal comfort characteristics and subject response for thermal environment of Korean traditional houses.. The air temperature and humidity in the living area of the residence were measured in during a day. And the subject response were surveyed to evaluate of controling the thermal environment factor (temperature, humidity, comfort) of the korean traditional houses. As a result, the variation of air temperature and humidity of most rooms are considerably static while condition of outdoors are much varied, it is showed that indoor climate has been controled with traditional soiled walls. And environmental control for the air temperature and humidity is estimated considerably satisfactory.

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of air and ceiling temperatures on a type of ceiling cooling system that involves cool water circulation. The experiment is conducted in summer. The subjects (11 young females) are exposed to the following conditions: combinations of air temperatures $(27^{\circ}C,\;29^{\circ}C,\;31^{\circ}C)$ and ceiling temperature of $(22.7^{\circ}C,\;23.7^{\circ}C,\;24.7^{\circ}C)$ in still air and RH 50%. The following results were obtained; the thermal sensation vote is neutral at a mean skin temperature of $34.5^{\circ}C$. The ceiling temperature affected different parts of the body. For example, the forehead, scapula and abdomen produced different skin temperatures. Thermal comfort vote was rated as comfortable at high temperature environment. The satisfaction from the ceiling temperature was valued comfortable zone in this experiment. Mean skin temperature showing higher thermal neutrality temperature than existing studies for floor and wall radiation cooling results.
