  • Periodontal regeneration therapy with bone-substituting materials has gained favorable clinical efficacy by enhancing osseous regeneration in periodontal bony defect. As bone-substituting materials, bone powder, calcium phosphate ceramic, modified forms of hydroxyapatite, and hard tissue replacement polymer have demonstrated their periodontal bony regenerative potency. Bone-substituting materials should fulfill several requirements such as biocompatibility, osteogenecity, malleability, biodegradability. The purpose of this study was to investigate biocompatibility, osteo-conduction capacity and biodegradability of $Na_2O$, $K_2O$ added calcium metaphosphate(CMP). Beta CMP was obtained by thermal treatment of anhydrous $Ca_2(H_2PO_4)_2$. $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$ were added to CMP. The change of weight of pure CMP, $Na_2O$-CMP, and $K_2O$-CMP in Tris-buffer solution and simulated body fluid for 30 days was measured. Twenty four Newzealand white rabbits were used in negative control, positive control(Bio-Oss), pure CMP group, 5% $Na_2$-CMP group, 10% $Na_2O$-CMP goup, and 5% $K_2O$-CMP group. In each group, graft materials were placed in right and left parietal bone defects(diameter 10mm) of rabbit. The animals were sacrificed at 3 months and 6 months after implantation of the graft materials. Degree of biodegradability of $K_2O$ or $Na_2O$ added CMP was greater than that of pure CMP in experimental condition. All experimental sites were healed with no clinical evidence of inflammatory response to all CMP implants. Histologic observations revealed that all CMP grafts were very biocompatible and osseous conductive, and that in $K_2O$-CMP or $Na_2O$-CMP implanted sites, there was biodegradable pattern, and that in site of new bone formation, there was no significant difference between all CMP group and DPBB(Bio-Oss) group. From this result, it was suggested that all experimental CMP group graft materials were able to use as an available bone substitution.

  • In this study, performance and economic analysis of 500 MWe coal-fired power plant with $CO_{2}$ capture process was performed. For this purpose, chemical absorption method which is commercially available and most suitable for thermal power plant was studied and a criteria for technical and economic assessment of power plants suggested by IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme was used. And we performed the sensitivity analysis focused on regeneration energy which exceed half of the total capture energy. Based on MEA(Monoethanoleamine) as a main chemical solvent and 3.31 GJ/ton$CO_{2}$ regeneration energy in the stripper, net power efficiency was reduced from 41.0% (no capture) to 31.6%(with capture) and the cost of $CO_{2}$ avoided was estimated 43.3 $/ton$CO_{2}$. And in case of 2.0 GJ/ton$CO_{2}$ regeneration energy, the cost of $CO_{2}$ avoided was calculated as 36.7 $/ton$CO_{2}$.

  • Since carbon dioxide, $CO_2$, was revealed as a major greenhouse gas, techniques for its separation, capture, and storage have received increasing interest in recent years. Aqueous amines are the most widely accepted $CO_2$ absorbents, but they cause the problems such as high regeneration energy, thermal degradation, and loss of absorbents due to their volatility. Ionic liquids having high thermal stability, extremely low vapor pressure, and capability of selectively absorbing specific gases have been proposed as new $CO_2$ capturing solvents which may potentially replace aqueous amines. By reviewing the ionic liquids having capability to absorb $CO_2$ reported in previous papers, we seek to develop a comprehensive understanding on the factors that influence the $CO_2$ solubility in ionic liquids such as their structures, absorption temperature, pressure, water content, etc., and to estimate the potential of ionic liquids as $CO_2$ separating media.

  • The sonolytic decomposition of NHCs(Nitrogen Heterocyclic Compounds), such as atrazine[6-chloro-N-ethyl-N'-(1-methylethyl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine], simazine(6-chloro-N,N'-diethyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine), trietazine(6-chloro-N,N,N'-triethyl-1,3, 5-triazine-2,4-diamine), in water was investigated at a ultrasound frequency of 200kHz with an acoustic intensity of 200W under argon and air atmospheres. The concentration of NHCs decreased with irradiation, indicating pseudo-first-order kinetics. The rates were in the range $1.06{\sim}2.07({\times}10^{-2}min^{-1})$ under air and $1.30{\sim}2.59({\times}10^{-2}min^{-1})$ under argon at a concentration of $200{\mu}M$ of NHCs. The rate of hydroxyl radicals(${\bullet}{OH}$) formation from water is $19.8{\mu}M\;min^{-1}$ under argon and $14.7{\mu}M\;min^{-1}$ under air in the same sonolysis conditions. The sonolysis of NHCs is effectively inhibited, but not completely, by the addition of t-BuOH(2-methyl-2-propanol), which is known to be an efficient ${\bullet}{OH}$ radical scavenger in aqueous sonolysis. This suggests that the main decomposition of NHCs proceeds via reaction with ${\bullet}{OH}$ radical; a thermal reaction also occurs, although its contribution is small. The addition of appropriate amounts of Fenton's reagent $[Fe^{2+}]$ accelerates the decomposition. This is probably due to the regeneration of ${\bullet}{OH}$ radicals from hydrogen peroxide, which would be formed from recombination of ${\bullet}{OH}$ radicals and which may contribute a little to the decomposition.

  • The honeycomb adsorbent was prepared for adsorbing and seadsorbent was prepared by using zeolite sheet, which contained zeolite as component. The steady-state adsorption properties and surface morphologies were analyzed and breakthrough characteristics were ananlyzed by providing 16% carbon dioxide mixed gas. By thermal regeneration, carbon dioxide concentration properties were analyzed, and the adsorptive separation process was compared between thermal swing adsorption and pressure swing adsorption after adsorbent temperature change during heating. The breakthrough results of the honeycomb showed possibility parating carbon dioxide from combustion exhaust gas, which had deep impact on climate change, and the characteristics of the adsorbent were studied. Na-X zeolite was coated on a honeycomb prepared with ceramic sheet or active carbon sheet so that the two honycomb can be used at high temperature. • In this study, we examined the antinociceptive effect of Cyperi rhizoma (CR) and Corydalis tuber (CT) extracts using a chronic constriction injury-induced neuropathic pain rat model. After the ligation of sciatic nerve, neuropathic pain behavior such as mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia were rapidly induced and maintained for 1 month. Repeated treatment of CR or CT (per oral, 10 or 30 mg/kg, twice a day) was performed either in induction (day 0~5) or maintenance (day 14~19) period of neuropathic pain state. Treatment of CR or CT at doses of 30 mg/kg in the induction and maintenance periods significantly decreased the nerve injury-induced mechanical allodynia. In addition, CR and CT at doses of 10 or 30 mg/kg alleviated thermal heat hyperalgesia when they were treated in the maintenance period. Finally, CR or CT (30 mg/kg) treated during the induction period remarkably reduced the nerve injury-induced phosphorylation of NMDA receptor NR1 subunit (pNR1) in the spinal dorsal horn. Results of this study suggest that extracts from CR and CT may be useful to alleviate neuropathic pain.

  • Background Little is known about the sensate recovery of skin grafts over free non-neurotized muscle flaps. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of free gracilis muscle flaps and meshed skin grafts without nerve coaptation. Methods Thirteen consecutive patients with a median age of 55 years (range, 21-70 years) who underwent lower extremity reconstruction between September 2014 and October 2016 were included. Complications, flap contour, skin perception, and sensate recovery were assessed. Results All flaps survived completely. In one patient, wound dehiscence and infection occurred 1 month after surgery. After a median follow-up of 14 months (range, 10-51 months), a satisfactory contour and skin perception were achieved. The Semmes-Weinstein (SW) monofilament test (154.8±22 g) and static two-point discrimination (2-PD) (12.6±0.7 mm) showed intermediate recovery compared to the surrounding site (41% and 76%, respectively). There was an intermediate correlation between flap size and sensate recovery (2-PD: r=0.27, P=0.36; SW test: r=0.45, P=0.12). Vibration sensation recovered to 60%, whereas thermal sensation remained poor (19% at 5℃ and 25% at 25℃). Conclusions Finer sensation could be partially restored. However, thermal sensation remained poor.

  • This paper has been conducted to estimate cooling capacity of the dehumidification tower using hot water from a solar water heating system as a energy source of regeneration process when the dehumidification and drying system is applied to room cooling. A solar water heating system was operated and indoor temperature distributions were simulated according to weather conditions when the concerned solution was used to dehumidify room air in the dehumidification tower. Through this simulation researches we found th following results ; It was found that air velocity through supply and return diffusers should be controlled because it can cause uncomfort in dwelling area. It was found that in the sunny morning temperatures of dwelling area 1 and 2 are higher than those of dwelling area 3 and 4. In this research all the calculation results of heating and cooling system supported by solar water heater have confirmed that its cooling capacity could not reach PMV 0, thermal comfort.

  • The purposes of this paper were to monitor the temperature rising courses and spark discharge of the modified granular activated carbon (GAC) by microwave (MW) irradiation and to evaluate absorption of benzene. The GAC coated on $SiO_2$, boron, talc, ferrite was named as the modified GAC. Thermal and spark discharge measurement of virgin GAC and modifed GAC has been carried out using a MW device operating at 2450 MHz under various energy conditions. The results of this paper as follows. First, the modified GAC is more efficient than the virgin GAC in temperature control. Temperature gradient of the modified GAC is more lower than that of virgin GAC. The temperature gradient of GAC was observed in the following order : virgin GAC, Mn-Zn ferrite/GAC, Ni-Zn ferrite,/GAC, $SiO_2/GAC$, Boron/GAC, Talc/GAC. Second, the spark discharge of the modified GAC was diminished, compared with that of virgin GAC. Because of its excellent electrical insulating properties, the coating material prevents the spark discharge. Finally, the benzene adsorption capacity of the modified GAC decreased due to diminishing of adsorption site by the coating material. Considering the temperature gradient and spark discharge of GAC, the GAC coated $SiO_2$ would be appropriate absorbent under irradiation of MW.
