  • The thermal fatigue crack(TFC) is one of the life-limiting mechanisms at the nuclear power plant operating conditions. In order to evaluate the structural integrity, various non-destructive test methods such as radiographic test, ultrasonic test and eddy current are used in the industrial field. However, these methods have restrictions that defect detection is possible after the crack growth. For this reason, acoustic emission testing(AET) is becoming one of powerful inspection methods, because AET has an advantage that possible to monitor the structure continuously. Generally, every mechanism that affects the integrity of the structure or equipment is a source of acoustic emission signal. Therefore the noise filtering is one of the major works to the almost AET researchers. In this study, acoustic emission signal was collected from the pipes which were in the successive thermal fatigue cycles. The data were filtered based on the results from previous experiments. Through the data analysis, the signal characteristics to distinguish the effective signal from the noises for the TFC were proven as the waveform difference. The experiment results provide preliminary information for the acoustic emission technique to the continuous monitoring of the structure failure detection.

  • As the importance of GNSS system increases, the necessity of independent system is increased also. When the independent GNSS system is required, GNSS signal design is necessary with requirement definition. This paper suggests the design method of GNSS signal using the analysis result of receiver performance. First, the candidates are defined based on the design elements. Then the receiver performance of the candidates is analyzed based on the performance evaluation parameters. The weights of performance evaluation parameter are defined in order to consider the receiver performance in a various aspects. Finally, the calculation of normalized performance evaluation parameters and weights are derived to obtain the compared value for signal selection. Spreading code, modulation method and carrier frequency are considered as design parameters. Also, correlation width, DLL PLL thermal noise jitter, frequency bandwidth and side lobe peak ratio are considered as performance evaluation parameters. And positioning performance, robustness to noise, bandwidth efficiency are considered as the performance aspects. This paper analyzes the performance of each candidate using software based simulator and suggest the method to compare objectively the performance of each candidates.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effects of interference canceller on the performance of multitone DS/CDMA system. Although there are various kinds of interference cancellers suggested by different researchers, we adopt a canceller used by Yoon et at.[9]. We consider three kinds of inteferences, that is, multiPath interference(MPI), interchannel interference(ICI) and multiple access interference(MPI). The equations for variances ate derived for the inteferences and thermal noise used for signal to noise ratio calculation. We also consider RAKE reception over multipath channel and three stage interference canceller used for performance improvement. We draw some conclusions that interference canceller is effective in multitone DS/CDMA system and the performance is further improved with the higer order of diversity and larger number of PN chips.

  • The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of sensing changes in a tumor during boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) using a Monte Carlo simulation tool. In the simulation, an epi-thermal neutron source and a water phantom including boron uptake regions (BURs) were simulated. Moreover, this simulation also included a detector for positron emission tomography (PET) scanning and an adaptively-designed collimator (ADC) for PET. After the PET scanning of the water phantom, including the 511 keV source in the BUR, the ADC was positioned in the PET's gantry. Single prompt gamma rays were collected through the ADC during neutron irradiation. Then, single prompt gamma ray-based tomography images of different sized tumors were acquired by a four-step process. Both the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and tumor size were analyzed from each step image. From this analysis, we identified a decreasing trend of both the SNR and signal intensity as the tumor size decreased, which was confirmed in all images. In conclusion, we confirmed the feasibility of sensing changes in a tumor during BNCT using PET and an ADC through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • In order to verify the operability of a GPS receiver which is one of the KSLV-I onboard electrical equipments under the vacuum conditions, this paper describes the operation methods and performance results of the GPS receiver under the thermal-vacuum and vacuum environments. The damages and degradations of electrical parts of the GPS receiver caused by the pressure change and high-degree vacuum conditions are analyzed in terms of tracking and navigation capabilities through the signal-to-noise ratio and navigation error.

  • When we want to observe and record a patient's EEG in an operating room, the operation of electrosurgical unit(ESU) causes undesirable artifacts with high frequency and high voltage. These artifacts make the amplifiers of the conventional EEG system saturated and prevent the system from measuring the EEG signal. This paper describes a high-performance bipolar EEG amplifier for a CSA (compressed spectral array ) system with reduced ESU artifacts. The designed EEG amplifier uses a balanced filter to reduce the ESU artifacts, and isolates the power supply and the signal source of the preamplifier from the ground to cut off the current from the ESU to the amplifier ground. To cancel the common mode noise in high frequency, a high CMRR(common mode rejection ratio) diffferential amplifier is used. Since the developed bipolar EEG amplifier shows high gain, low noise, high CMRR, high input impedance, and low thermal drift, it is possible to observe and record more clean EEG signals in spite of ESU operation. Therefore the amplifier may be applicable to a high-fidelity CSA system.

  • Uncooled pyroelectric thin-film (Ba,Sr)TiO$_3$ infrared detectors thermally isolated from Si-substrate by Si$_3$N$_4$/SiO$_2$/Si$_3$N$_4$-membrane have been fabricated, and figures of merit for detectors were examined. The detector at $25^{\circ}C$ in air showed relatively high voltage responsivity of about 168.8 V/W and low specific detectivity of about 2.6$\times$10$^4$cm.Hz$^{1}$2//W at 1 Hz-chopping frequency because of very small signal-to-noise voltage ratio. It could be found that both thermal noise voltage and thermal time constant of the detector were very large by analyzing dependences of output waveforms on chopping frequency and temperature.

  • In this paper, in order to design the A / D converter with a high resolution of 14 bits or more for the biological signal processing, CMOS delta sigma modulator that is a 1.8V power supply voltage - were designed. we propose a new structure of The fourth order delta-sigma modulator that needs four op amps but we use only two op amps. By using a time -interleaving technique, we can re-construct the circuit and reuse the op amps. Also, we proposed a KT/C noise reduction circuit to reduce the thermal noise from a noisy resistor. We adjust the size of sampling capacitor between sampling time and integrating time, so we can reduce almost a half of KT/C noise. The measurement results of the chip is fabricated using a Magna 0.18um CMOS n-well1 poly 6 metal process. Power consumption is $828{\mu}W$ from a 1.8V supply voltage. The peak SNDR is measured as a 75.7dB and 81.3dB of DR at 1kHz input frequency and 256kHz sampling frequency. Measurement results show that KT/C noise reduction circuit enhance the 3dB of SNDR. FOM of the circuit is calculated to be 142dB and 41pJ / step.

  • In order to implement the integrated capacitive pressure sensors, which contains integrated interface circuits to detect the electrical output signal, several main factors that have a bad effect on the characteristics of sensors must be improved, such as parasitic capacitance effects, temperature/thermal drift, and the leakage current of a readout circuitry. This paper describes the novel design of the dedicated CMOS readout circuitry that is consists of two capacitance to frequency converters and 4 bit digital logic compensating circuits. Dividing the oscillation frequency of a sensing sensor by that of reference sensor, this circuit is designed to eliminate the thermal/temperature drift and the effect of the leakage currents, and to access a digital signals to obtain a high signal-to-noise(S/N)ratio. Therefore, the resolution of this circuit can be increased by increasing the number of the digital bits. Digital compensated circuits of this circuits, except for the C-F converters, are fabricated on a FPGA chip, and fundamental performance of the circuits are evaluated.
