Bio-based polyester polyol was synthesized via esterification between azelaic acid and isosorbide. After esterification, bio-based polyurethanes were synthesized using polyester polyol, 1,3-propanediol as the chain extender, and 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, in mixing ratios of 1:1:1.5, 1:1:1.8, 1:1:2, and 1:1:2.3. The bio TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) samples were characterized by using FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), TGA (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis), DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), and GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatography). The mechanical properties (tensile stress and hardness) were obtained by using UTM, a Shore A tester, and a Taber abrasion tester. The viscoelastic properties were tested by an Rubber Processing Analyzer in dynamic strain sweep and dynamic frequency test modes. The chemical resistance was tested with methanol by using the swelling test method. Based on these results, the bio TPU synthesized with the ratio of 1:1:2.3, referred to as TPU 4, showed the highest thermal decomposition temperature, the largest molecular weight, and most compact matrix structure due to the highest ratio of the hard segment in the molecular structure. It also presented the highest tensile strength, the largest elongation, and the best viscoelastic properties among the different bio TPUs synthesized herein.
This study focused on the decomposition of toluene in a plasma-photocatalytic hybrid system. Hexagonally packed meso-structured Mn-titanosilicates (Mn-Ti-MCM-41), as the photocatalysts, have been prepared by the hydrothermal method. The physical properties of the photocatalysts were characterized using XRD, XPS, TEM, BET/ICP, and $NH_3$/Toluene-TPD. Experiments were carried out at the applied voltage of 9.0 kV and at room temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. In the plasma only system, the activity of the toluene decomposition was higher than that in the photocatalytic system. However, the amount of by-products, such as phenol, $C_2{\sim}C_4$ alkene, was also increased in the plasma only system. However, the by-products decreased remarkably in a plasma-photocatalytic hybrid system. When Mn5mol%-Ti-MCM-41 was used as a photocatalyst in a plasma-photocatalytic hybrid system, the $CO_2$ selectivity in products was increased dramatically compared to other catalysts. It was confirmed that a plasma-photocatalytic hybrid system was better for toluene decomposition compared to photocatalytic and plasma only systems.

This study offers a novel method for improving the physical contact between the anode and fuel in a direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC): a direct generation of carbon in a porous Ni anode through the thermal decomposition of gaseous hydrocarbons. Three kinds of alkane hydrocarbons with different carbon numbers (CH4, C2H6, and C3H8) are tested. From electron microscope observations of the carbon particles generated from each hydrocarbon, we confirm that more carbon spheres (CS), carbon nanotubes (CNT), and carbon nanofibers (CNF) were identified with increasing carbon number. Raman scattering results revealed that the carbon samples became less crystalline and more flexible with increasing carbon number. DCFC performance was measured at $700^{\circ}C$ with the anode fueled by the same mass of each carbon sample. One-dimensional carbon fuels of CNT and CNF more actively produced and had power densities 148 and 210 times higher than that of the CS, respectively. This difference is partly attributed to the findings that the less-crystalline CNT and CNF have much lower charge transfer resistances than the CS.

A mono-disperse Ni powders for multilayer ceramic capacitors were prepared in a large scale by solution reduction method using $NiSO_{4}$$N_{2}$$H_{4}$and NaOH. The exothermic reactions such as Ni-complex formation between highly concentrated $NiSO_{4}$ and $N_{2}$$H_{4}$ and the reduction of $Ni^{2+}$ into Ni provided thermal energy sufficient for spontaneous solution-reduction reaction. Because well-defined Ni particles could be prepared without external heating, the present method was named as 'auto-thermal method'. The formation of Nicomplex, the precipitation of $Ni(OH)_{2}$ gel triggered by NaOH addition, and its reduction into Ni by dissolution-recrystallization route were the reaction mechanism. The preparation of mono-disperse and spherical Ni powder was attributed to uniform distribution of reducing agent $N_{2}$$H_{2}$ within $Ni(OH)_{2}$ gel due to the decomposition of$NiSO_{4}$-$N_{2}$$H_{4}$ complex.
Phosphonium montmorillonites (P-MMTs) were prepared by intercalating dodecyl tributyl phosphonium salt into sodium montmorillonite (Na-MMT) through an ion-exchange method. Microstructure and antibacterial activity of phosphonium montmorillonites were studied by FT-IR, TGA, XRD and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), respectively. The results show that phosphonium montmorillonites exhibit higher thermal stability than conventional ammonium montmorillonites, the onset temperature of decomposition is higher than 300 $^{\circ}C$, and the basal spacing of phosphonium montmorillonites is enlarged compared to that of sodium montmorillonite. Phosphonium montmorillonites also show good antibacterial activity with the MIC against E. coli and S. aureus of 150 and 50 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively.

Zinc diffusion characteristics and its applicabilities have been studied using an open-tube system. Thermal decomposition of arsenide(As) at gallium arsenide(GaAs) wafer surface was well inhibited by using Ga: poly-GaAs: Zn compositon as a diffusion source. Junction depth was obtained as 4.6x10**7\ulcorner exp)-1.25/kT) where activation energy of diffusion was 1.25eV. From Boltzmann-matano analysis, it could be identified that concentration dependencies of Zn diffusivity well consisted with those of kick-out model. The ideality factor of p+-n junction formed by Zn diffusion was about 1.6 and infrared light intensity was linearly varied in the range of sixty folds. It is concluded frodm these results that Zn diffuses according to kick-out model, and open-tube method is applicable to compound semiconductor devices.
Two kinds of CNT/TiO2 composite photocatalysts were synthesized with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and titanium(IV) n-butoxide (TNB) by a MCPBA oxidation method. Since MWCNTs had charge transfer and semiconducting, the CNT/TiO2 composite shows a good photo-degradation activity. The XRD patterns reveal that only anatase phase can be identified for MCT composite, but the HMCT composite synthesized with HCl treatment was observed the mixed phase of anatase and rutile. The EDX spectra were shown the presence as major elements of Ti with strong peaks. From the SEM results, the sample MCT and HMCT synthesized by the thermal decomposition with TNB show a homogenous sample with only individual MWCNTs covered with TiO2 without any jam-like aggregates between CNTs and TiO2. From the photocatalytic results, we could be suggested that the excellent activity of the CNT/TiO2 composites for organic dye and UV irradiation time could be attributed to combination effects between TiO2 and MWCNTs with plausible photodegradation mechanism.
Measurement methods of moisture content were compared with 7 dried vegetables (red pepper, onion, green onion, garlic, ginger, carrot and radish). The moisture contents of dried vegetables having different moisture contents were determined by atmospheric oven drying, infrared balance, vacuum oven and Karl Fisher methods. Vacuum oven and Karl Fisher methods gave the relatively agreed results and considered to give the accurate moisture content. Atmospheric oven drying and infrared balance methods resulted in higher moisture content than methods mentioned above, because of the thermal decomposition of solid. Calibration of the moisture data of atmospheric oven drying method into the vacuum oven data was undertaken. The thermodecomposable solid fraction was high in onion, radish, green onion and carrot, and was in the range of 8.0-11.7% of the total solid in these products.
We synthesized highly aligned carbon nanotubes by thermal decomposition of acetylene gas using metal catalyst island. The alignment technique in this experiment is a very efficient method because it does not require any treatments before and after catalyst metal deposition. Alignment of nanotubes was dominated by the uniform diameter and the high density of metal catalysts. In the field emission test, the uniform emission spots on phosphor screen were obtained from the nanotubes in spite of non-aligned tube nature.
