Purpose: Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are natural polymers that have been promoted as a next generation of new, sustainable materials. CNCs are invaluable as reinforcing materials for composites because they can impart improved mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties and they are biodegradable. The purpose of this review is to provide researchers with information that can assist in the application of CNCs extracted from waste agricultural byproducts (e.g. rice husks, corncobs, pineapple leaves). Methods & Results: This paper presents the unique characteristics of CNCs based on agricultural byproducts, and lists processing methods for manufacturing CNCs from agricultural byproducts. Various mechanical treatments (microfluidization and homogenization) and chemical treatments (alkali treatment, bleaching and hydrolysis) can be performed in order to generate nanocellulose. CNC-based composite properties and various applications are also discussed. Conclusions: CNC-based composites from agricultural byproducts can be combined to meet end-use applications such as sensors, batteries, films, food packaging, and 3D printing by utilizing their properties. The review discusses applications in food engineering, biological engineering, and cellulose-based hydrogels.

Highly sensitive $CaSO_4:Tm$ TLD is fabricated and their trap parameters are determined. The glow curve of $CaSO_4:Tm$ consists of three glow peaks and these peaks are isolated by the thermal bleaching method. The isolated glow peaks are fitted by a least squares method. The activation energies are 0.68, 0.82 and 1.03 eV. The frequency factors are $8.09{\times}10^8,\;9.14{\times}10^8$ and $1.03{\times}10^9/s$, and the kinetic orders are 1.37, 1.54 and 1.68, respectively. The optimum temperature range of the main peak for radiation dosimetry is between 220 and $290^{\circ}C$.
Tungsten oxide($WO_{3}$) is suitable to materials for photochromic window in the visible region. The resistivities of CdS, $WO_{3}$, and $WO_{3}$/CdS films prepared by thermal evaporation method were $4.61\times 10\^{3}$, $7.59\times10^{3}$, and $6.29\times10^{3}$$\omega$ cm. And x-ray diffraction patterns of CdS, $WO_{3}$/CdS films showed a preferred orientation of hexagonal(002), and the monoclinic(020) structure, respectively. The optical transmission were measured that the cut-on wavelength were 510nm, 380nm for CdS and $WO_{3}$ films respectively, and the transmission spectrum of $WO_{3}$/CdS was shifted into the visible region. Photoluminescence(PL) spectra showed the two peaks at 2.8 eV and 3.2 eV for the as-grown sample($WO_{3}$/CdS ($500{\AA}$), but the other sample($WO_{3}$/CdS ($1000{\AA}$)) had a peak energy value of 2.8 eV. The photochromism of $WO_{3}$/CdS films showed that the excitation of electron-hole pairs and subsequent coloration is shifted into visible-light range. And the spectral behavior of coloration turned out to be proportional to the excited electron-hole pairs creation rate of CdS film. This result is interpreted in terms of charge carrier injection from the CdS-layer into the $WO_{3}$ films. We found a value of about 2.8 eV of $WO_{3}$/CdS film which is somewhat higher than peak energy of 2.54 eV using CBD prepared by Bechinger et. al.

As a forth state of material, plasma is ionized gas, which generates characteristically various reactive species. After late of $20^{th}$ century, plasma has been widely used in industry. After nonthermal atmospheric plasma was developed, it has been applied to biomedical fields. Nonthermal atmospheric plasma does not give thermal damages to human tissues, and it shows the high efficiency in cancer treatment, sterilization, tooth bleaching, coagulation, and wound healing. Because the application of plasma to biomedicine has been expanded through interdisciplinary studies, its value of high medical technology is increasing now. Since nonthermal atmospheric plasma was first applied to the mammalian cells and microorganisms, many valuable studies has been performed for about last 10 years, so that now the new research area called 'plasma medicine' has been formed. This article introduces the recent data resulted from plasma medicine and helps to understand the plasma medicine.
Hanji has known for its high qualities for more than thousand years. Hanji is stronger, and has better durability, air permeability, flexibility, thermal insulation, soundproofs and UV absorbability. Therefore, developing industrial interior finishing materials using Hanji is replaced with the PVC (Poly-Vinyl Chloride) materials instead, it will be a new environment-friendly material and positively represents Korean brand marketing. The industrial inter-construction material is discomposed by heat or light because of material characteristics. As a result, it emits a lot of noxious substances. Hanji is essentially a neutral paper since it does not rely on any acidic chemicals of artificial bleaching methods. Hanji is also known as the living paper because of its close relation to nature. Therefore, I would like to suggest that Hanji made from alternative material as a chicken fiber. It will be a non-polluting interior finishing materials by making use of Hanji to a taste of Korean culture in the green industry around the world. Rather than PVC used commonly in construction material, kitchen and office furniture, interior materials in the subway, trains, or other vessels, credit cards, and ID cards, I created an interior construction material by using patented Hanji. This will be increased the value of usefulness in the environment-friendly green industry instead of PVC.

The dynamics of the $CN^-$-ligated ferric cytochrome c (CytcCN) in $D_2O$ at 283 K following Q-band photoexcitation at 575 nm was observed using femtosecond time-resolved vibrational spectroscopy. The equilibrium vibrational spectrum of the CN stretching mode of CytcCN shows two overlapping bands: one main band (82%) at $2122\;cm^{-1}$ with $23\;cm^{-1}$ full width at half maximum (fwhm) and the other band (18%) at $2116\;cm^{-1}$ with $7\;cm^{-1}$ fwhm. The time-resolved spectra show bleaching of the CN fundamental mode of CytcCN and two absorption features at lower energies. The bleach signal and both absorption features are all formed within the time resolution of the experiment (< 200 fs) and decay with a life time of 1.9 ps. One transient absorption feature, appearing immediately red to the bleach signal, results from the thermal excitation of low-frequency modes of the heme that anharmonically couple to the CN fundamental mode, thereby shifting the CN mode to lower energies. The shift of the CN mode decays with a lifetime of 2 ps, equivalent to the time scale for vibrational cooling of the low-frequency heme modes. The other transient absorption feature, which is 3.3 times weaker than the bleach signal and shifted $27\;cm^{-1}$ toward lower energies, is attributed to the CN mode in an electronically excited state where the CN bond is weakened with a lowered extinction coefficient. These observations suggest that photoexcited CytcCN mainly undergoes ultrafast radiationless relaxation, causing photo-deligation of $CN^-$ from CytcCN highly inefficient. As also observed in $CN^-$-ligated myoglobin, inefficient ligand photodissociation might be a general property of $CN^-$-ligated ferric hemes.
We have systematically investigated the characterization of V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films as a counter electrode for lithium based complementary electrochromic devices. The V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films were prepared by thermal vacuum evaporation with varing the substrate temperature and film thickness. In electrochromic devices for smart windows, the WO$_{3}$ thin films with 400-800 nm thickness require to be capable of reversibly injection 10-15 mC/cm$^{2}$ of lithium, which is readily accomplished charge-balanced switching in a V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films with 100-150nm thick. The V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films produces considerably small changes in optical modulation properties in the visible and near infrared region(500-1100 nm) compared to the amorphous WO$_{3}$ thin films on 10-15 mC/cm$^{2}$ of lithium injection and the V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films can therefore act as a counter electrode to WO$_{3}$ in a lithium based complementary clectrochromic devices. After 10$^{5}$ coloration/bleaching switching time, the degradation does not occurs and the devices exhibit a stable optical modulation in V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films. It has shown that the injected lithium ion amounts in crystalline V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films with the same thickness is large by 3-5 mC/cm$^{2}$ of lithium compared to the amorphous thin films in the same driving conditions. Therefore, to optimize the device performance, it is necessary to choose an appropriate film thickness and crystallinity of V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ for amorphous WO$_{3}$ film thickness as a working electrode.
In this study, the $CaSO_4:Eu$ TLDs are fabricated and their trap parameters are determined. The optimum concentration of Eu for fabrication of the $CaSO_4:Eu$ TLD is 0.5 mol% and optimum temperature is $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours sintering in air. The glow curve of $CaSO_4:Eu$ consists of two glow peaks and these peaks are isolated by thermal bleaching method. Trap parameters of two glow peaks are measured using the initial rise, the peak shape, the heating rate and the least square curve fitting methods. The activation energies of the glow peak I and II are 1.00 eV and 1.09 eV, and the frequency factors are $7.04{\times}10^{11}\;s^{-1}$ and $5.12{\times}10^{11}\;s^{-1}$ and the kinetic orders are 1.11 and 1.33, respectively.
Bacillus clausii I-52 which produced SDS- and $H_2O_2$-tolerant extracellular alkaline protease (BCAP) was isolated from heavily polluted tidal mud flat of West Sea in Incheon, Korea and stable strain (transformant C5) of B. clausii I-52 harboring another copy of BCAP gene in the chromosome was developed using the chromosome integration vector, pHPS9-fuBCAP. When investigated the production of BCAP using B. clausii transformant C5 through pilot-scale submerged fermentation (500 L) at $37^{\circ}C$ for 30 h with an aeration rate of 1 vvm and agitation rate of 250 rpm, protease yield of approximately 105,700 U/mL was achieved using an optimized medium (soybean meal 2%, wheat flour 1%, sodium citrate 0.5%, $K_2HPO_4$ 0.4%, $Na_2HPO_4$ 0.1%, NaCl 0.4%, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ 0.01%, $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ 0.05%, liquid maltose 2.5%, $Na_2CO_3$ 0.6%). The enzyme stability of BCAP was increased by addition of polyols (10%, v/v) and also, the stabilities of BCAP towards not only the thermal-induced inactivation at $50^{\circ}C$ but also the SDS and $H_2O_2$-induced inactivation at $50^{\circ}C$ were enhanced. Among the polyols examined, the best result was obtained with propylene glycol (10%, v/v). The BCAP supplemented with propylene glycol exhibited extreme stability against not only the detergent components such as ${\alpha}$-orephin sulfonate (AOS) and zeolite but also the commercial detergent preparations. The granulized enzyme of BCAP was prepared with approximately 1,310,000 U/g of granule. Wash performance analysis using EMPA test fabrics revealed that BCAP granule exhibited high efficiency for removal of protein stains in the presence of anionic surfactants as well as bleaching agents. When compared to Savinase 6T$^{(R)}$ and Everlase 6T$^{(R)}$ manufactured by Novozymes, BCAP under this study probably showed similar or higher efficiency for the removal of protein stains. These results suggest that the alkaline protease produced from B. clausii transformant C5 showing high stability against detergents and high wash performance has significant potential and a promising candidate for use as a detergent additive.
In the optic,11 grade LiF crystal, the electron traps corresponding to the thermoluminescence(abbreviated to TL) glow peak develop as irradiation dose is increased. Originally the electron trap of the crystal has two levels but as the dose reaches to the order of 10$^4$rontgen, it attains five levels as observed in the TL glow curves. The five trap depths are determined from the glow peak temperatures for two different heating rates, $\theta$=6.6$^{\circ}C$/sec and 3.4$^{\circ}C$/sec. The electron trap depths have the following values E$_1$=0.79 eV, E$_2$=0.93 eV, E$_3$=1.02 eV, E$_4$=1.35 eV, E$_{5}$=1.69eV. The special feature of thermoluminescence of optical grade LiF is that the traps, except E$_1$and E$_2$corresponding to 12$0^{\circ}C$ glow peak and 15$0^{\circ}C$ glow peak for $\theta$=6.6$^{\circ}C$/sec, have severe thermal instability, namely E$_3$, E$_4$and E$_{5}$ levels disappear during bleaching process. These defects in the optical grade LiF crystal seem annealed out during the course of TL measurement. The fresh or long time unused LiF(Mg) crystal shows only two glow peaks at 17$0^{\circ}C$ and 23$0^{\circ}C$ for $\theta$=6.6$^{\circ}C$/sec, but upon sensitization with r-ray irradiation, it converts to the six glow peak state. The four electron traps, E$_1$, E$_2$, E$_3$, and E$_{6}$ created by r-ray irradiation and corresponding to the glow peaks at T=10$0^{\circ}C$ 13$0^{\circ}C$, 15$0^{\circ}C$ and 29$0^{\circ}C$ are stable and not easily annealed out thermally, The sensitization essentially required to LiF(Mg) dosimeter is to give the crystal the stable six levels in the electron trap. In optical grade LiF, the plot between logarithm of total TL output versus logarithm of r-ray dose gives more supra-linear feature than that of LiF(Mg). However, if one takes the height of 12$0^{\circ}C$ glow peak(S=6.6$^{\circ}C$/sec), instead of the total TL output, the curve becomes close to that of LiF(Mg).
