The bending vibration and thermal flutter instability of spacecraft booms modeled as circular thin-walled beams of closed cross-section and subjected to thermal radiation loading is investigated in this paper. The thin-walled beam model incorporates a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear, primary and secondary warping, rotary inertia and anisotropy of constituent materials. Thermally induced vibration response characteristics of a composite thin walled beam exhibiting the circumferantially uniform system(CUS) configuration are exploited in connection with the structural flapwise bending-lagwise bending coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials and from ply stacking sequence. The numerical simulations display deflection time-history as a function of the ply-angle of fibers of the composite materials, damping factor, incident angle of solar heat flux, as well as the boundary of the thermal flutter instability domain. The adaptive control are provided by a system of piezoelectric devices whose sensing and actuating functions are combined and that are bonded or embedded into the host structure.

In recent years, mica has been successfully used as a substrate for the growth of flexible epitaxial ferroelectric oxide thin films. Here, we systematically investigated the flexibility of mica in terms of its thickness, repeated bending/unbending, extremely hot/cold conditions, and successive thermal cycling. A $20-{\mu}m-thick$ sheet of mica is flexible even up to the bending radius of 5 mm, and it is durable for 20,000 cycles of up- and down-bending. In addition, the mica shows flexibility at 10 and 773 K, and thermal cycling stability for the temperature variation of ca. 400 K. Compared with the widely used flexible polyimide, mica has a significantly higher Young's modulus (ca. 5.4 GPa) and negligible hysteresis in the force-displacement curve. These results show that mica should be a suitable substrate for piezoelectric energy-harvesting applications of ferroelectric oxide thin films at extremely low and high temperatures.
Thermal history and thermal stress of alumina specimen, which occured from thermal shock process, were calculated by finite difference method. Stress intensity factor and crack growth in cyclic thermal fatigue were calculated from single thermal shock temperature history and thermal stress. Cyclic thermal life were estimated by bending strength after cyclic thermal shock under critical thermal shock temperature. Calculated stress intensity factor was compared with real experimental thermal fatigue life of specimen. Fatigue life until critical stress intensity factor and real experimental result were comparable.
Various interlayer materials have been tested for active metal(Cusil ABA) brazing of Si3N4/S. S316 joint. In general multilayer joint had higher strength(80-150 MPa) and better reliability than monolayered one. The joint with Cu(0.2)/Mo(0.3)/Cu(0.2mm) interlayer showed the highest bending strength of abou 490 MPa and the joint with Cu(0.2)/Mo(0.3mm) interlayer the best reliability (14.6 Weibull modulus). The stresses distributed in joint materials during 4-point bending test were estimated by CAE von Mises analysis; the estimated stresses were In good agreement with the measured data. In multilayer joint Cu was though to reduce the residual stresses induced by the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the ceramic Mo and metal It apperared that a Cu/Mo was optimum interlayer material for Si3N4/S. S316 joint with high bending strength (420 MPa) and reliability. In addition the various shapes and types of compound were examined by EPMA in joining interface.
Recently, Electronic & Electrical Products have problems how to reduce heat in trend reducing size and increasing speed. heat pipes worked by latent heats can solve problems for effective and quiet electronic applications. Heat Pipes have to be suitably designed for the external conditions due to showing optimum performance. it has influence on efficiency of heat pipes to the exterior structure changed by length, bending angle, diameter. Designing heat pipes has depended on experience from trial and error. this method wasted too many resources, but can't guarantee efficiency. to prevent those wastes, this study aims at making the thermal transfer coefficient predicting efficiency. In this study, the thermal transfer coefficient has been made from experimental results that used variables - lengths between heat source and radiation, bending angles, diameters of heat pipes. variables become non-dimensional in modeling process for making the coefficient.

This paper is to investigate a defect for thermal barrier coating layers by acoustic emission method in 4-point bending test. The two-layer thermal barrier coating is composed of $150\mu{m}\;CoNiCrAlY\;bond\;coating\;by\;vacuum\;plasma\;spray(VPS)\;process\;and\;250\mu{m}\;ZrO_2-8wt%Y_2O_3$ ceramic coating layer by air plasma spray(APS) process on Inconel-718. The specimen prepared by cyclic thermal test(500, 1000, 2000cycle) at $1050^{\circ}C$ The AE monitoring system is composed of PICO type sensor, a wide band pre-amplifier(40dB), PC and AE DSP(16/32 PAC) board. The AE event, amplitude, Cumulative energy and count of coating specimens is evaluated according to cyclic thermal test.
Cast duplex stainless steels are susceptible to thermal aging during long-term service at temperatures ranging from $280^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. To analyze the effect of thermal aging on leak-before-break (LBB) behavior, three-dimensional finite element analysis models were built for circumferentially cracked pipes. Based on the elasticeplastic fracture mechanics theory, the detectable leakage crack length calculation and J-integral stability assessment diagram approach were carried out under different bending moments. The LBB curves and LBB assessment diagrams for unaged and thermally aged pipes were constructed. The results show that the detectable leakage crack length for thermally aged pipes increases with increasing bending moments, whereas the critical crack length decreases. The ligament instability line and critical crack length line for thermally aged pipes move downward and to the left, respectively, and unsafe LBB assessment results will be produced if thermal aging is not considered. If the applied bending moment is increased, the degree of safety decreases in the LBB assessment.

Since the ceramic/metal joint material is made at a high temperature, the residual stress develops when it is cooled from bonding temperature to room temperature due to remarkable difference of thermal expansion coefficient between ceramic and metal. As residual stress at ceramic/metal joints influences the strength of joints, it is important to estimate residual stress quantitatively. In this study, it is attempted to estimate joint residual stress of Si$_3$N$_4$STS304 joints quantitatively and to compare the strength of joints. The difference of residual stress is measured when repeated thermal cycl is loaded, under the conditions of the practical use of the ceramic/metal joint. The residual stress increases at 1 cycle of thermal load but decreases in 3 cycles to 10 cycles of thermal load. And 4-point bending test is performed to examine the influence of residual stress on fracture strength. As a result, it is known that the stress of joint decreases as the number of thermal cycle increases.
Hardfacing is one of the frequently applying method to increase surface hardness in hot forging die. Recently, hardfacing receives great attention due to it's repair availability and low cost. In hot forging die, crack resistance and thermal shock resistance have been considered as major properties, However there are few studies for the assessment of these properties. So, it is necessary to establish the assessment method for crack resistance and thermal shock resistance in hardfacing for hot forging die. In this study, flux cored arc welding was applied to make hardfacing welds. Three point bending test was carried out to assess hardfacing weld's crack resistance, and high temperature bending test using salt bath was developed for thermal shock resistance. Consequently, it was possible to assess crack resistance and thermal shock resistance of hardfacing welds for hot forging die quantitatively.
Flexural bending analysis of perfect and imperfect functionally graded materials plates under hygro-thermo-mechanical loading are investigated in this present paper. Due to technical problems during FGM fabrication, porosities and micro-voids can be created inside FGM samples which may lead to the reduction in density and strength of materials. In this investigation, the FGM plates are assumed to have even and uneven distributions of porosities over the plate cross-section. The modified rule of mixture is used to approximate material properties of the FGM plates including the porosity volume fraction. In order the elastic coefficients, thermal coefficient and moisture expansion coefficient of the plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction. The elastic foundation is modeled as two-parameter Pasternak foundation. The equilibrium equations are given and a number of examples are solved to illustrate bending response of Metal-Ceramic plates subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical effects and resting on elastic foundations. The influences played by many parameters are investigated.
