  • The polymer blends containing polypyrrole (PPy) and the sulphonic acids such as β-naphthalene sulfonic acid (NSA), camphor sulfonic acid (CSA), and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) were synthesized by in situ deposition technique in an aqueous media using ammonium per sulfate (APS) as an initiator. The obtained films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the thermal behavior of these polymer blends was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The temperature-dependent (DC) conductivity of the obtained films shows a semiconducting behavior with a negative temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR). The conductivity data were also analyzed through Mott’s equation, which provides the variable range hopping model in three dimensions. The parameters such as density of states at the Fermi energy, hopping energy, and hopping distance were calculated for PPy, PPy-NSA, PPy-CSA, and PPy-DBSA films, and the data were compared.

  • We have developed a new way of the constant growth technique to maintain a grating height of originally-etched V-groove of submicron gratings up to 1.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness by a low pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. The constant growth technique is well performed on two kinds of submicron gratings that made by holography and electron (e)-beam lithography GaAs buffer layer grown on thermally deformed submicron gratings has an important role in recovering the deformed grating profile from sinusoidal to V-shaped by reducing mass transport effects. The thermal deformation effect on submicron gratings made by e-beam lithography is less than that on submicron gratings made by holography. The constant growth technique is an important step to realize complex optoelectronic devices such as one-step grown distributed feedback lasers and two-dimensional photonic crystals.

  • Recently, high luminance and high efficiency were realized in OLEDs with multilayer structure including emitting materials such as metal-chelate complexes. New luminescent materials, [2- (2-hydroxyphenyl)-quinoline] (Zn(HPB)q), [(1,10-phenanthroline)- (8-hydroxyquinoline)] Zn(Phen)q was synthesized. Zn-Complexes have low molecular compound and thermal stability. The ionization potential(IP) and electron affinity(EA) of Zn-complexes were measured by cyclic-voltammetry(CV). The fundamental structure of the OLEDs was $ITO/{\alpha}$-NPD/Zn-Complex/Al and then we made device structure rightly in energy band gap. We using Zn(Phen)q as emitting layer and Zn(HPB)q as electron transport layer. We measured current density-voltage, luminance-voltage characteristics.

  • An efficient cooling system is essential for the electronic packaging such as a high-luminance LED lighting. A special heat transport technology, Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP), can be applied to the cooling of LED lighting. In this paper, the operational characteristics of the PHP in the imposed thermal boundary conditions of LED lighting were experimentally investigated. The experimental PHP was made of copper tubes of internal diameter of 2.1 mm. The working fluids of ethanol, FC-72, water, acetone and R-123 were chosen for comparison. The results showed that an optimum range of charging ratio exists for high cooling performance; 50% for most of the fluids. Among the five working fluids, water showed the highest heat transfer rate of 260 W. Two distinguished characteristics of pulsating direction were identified. It is also identified that high vapor pressure gradient is one of key parameters for better heat transfer performance.

  • The proper parameters in a twin roll strip casting are important to obtain the stabilization of the Mg sheet. What is examined in this paper is the quantitative relationships of the important control parameters such as the roll speed, height of pool region, outlet size of nozzle, solidification profile and the final point of solidification in a twin roll strip casting Unsteady conservation equations were used for transport phenomena in the pool region of a twin roll strip casting in order to predict a velocity, temperature distributions of fields and a solidification process of molten magnesium. The energy equation of cooling roll Is solved simultaneously with the conservation equations of molten magnesium In order to consider the heat transfer through the cooling roil. The finite difference method (2-D) and the finite element method (2-D) are used in the analysis of pool region and cooling roil to reduce computing time and to improve the accuracy of calculation respectively.

  • Analyses of flow and heat transfer characteristics and shape optimization of internally finned circular tubes have been performed for three-dimensional periodically fully developed turbulent flow and heat transfer. CFD and mathematical optimization are coupled in order to optimize the shape of heat exchanger. The design variables such as fin widths $(d_{1},\;d_{2})$ and fin height (h) are numerically optimized by minimizing the pressure loss and maximizing the heat transfer rate for limiting conditions of $d_{1}=0.2\~1.5\;mm,\;d_{2}=0.2\~1.5\;mm,$ and $h=0.2\~1.5mm$. Due to the periodic boundary conditions along main flow direction, the three layers of meshes are considered. The flow and thermal fields are predicted using the finite volume method and the optimization is carried out by means of the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method which is widely used in the constrained nonlinear optimization problem.

  • The influence of thermodynamic transition associated with transcritical nitrogen injection upon the flow structure was investigated to explore numerical simulation of the injectant dynamics of oxygen/hydrogen coaxial jet in liquid rocket engines. Single and coaxial nitrogen jets were treated by comparing the transcritical and perfect-gaseous conditions, wherein the numerical model was accommodative to the real-fluid thermodynamics and transport properties at supercritical pressures. The model was in the first place validated by comparing the results of transcritical nitrogen injection between calculations and available experiments. For a single jet under the transcritical condition, the nitrogen kept a relatively high density up to its pseudo-critical temperature inside the mixing layer, since it remains less expanding until heated up to its pseudo-critical temperature. Numerical analysis revealed that cryogenic jets exhibit strong dependence of specific enthalpy profile upon the associated density profile that are both dominated by turbulent thermal diffusion. In the numerical model, therefore, exact evaluation of turbulent heat fluxes becomes very important for simulating turbulent cryogenic jets under supercritical pressures. Concerning the coaxial jets due to transcritical/gaseous nitrogen injections, the density profile inside the mixing layer was again affected by the thermodynamic transition of nitrogen. However, hydrodynamic instability modes of the inner jet did not show significant differences by this thermodynamic transition, so that further study is needed for the mixing process downstream of the near injection position.

  • The confinement degradation of the energetic particles during RMP would be a key issue in success of realizing the successful energy production using fusion plasma, because a 3.5 MeV energetic alpha particle should be able to sustain the burning plasma after the ignition. As KSTAR recent results indicate the generation of high-performance plasma(${\beta}_p{\sim}3$), the confinement of the energetic particles is also an important key aspect in neutral beam driven plasma. In general, the measured absolute value of the neutron intensity is generally used for to estimating the confinement time of energetic particles by comparing it with the theoretical value based on transport calculations. However, the availability of, but for its calculation process, many accurate diagnostic data of plasma parameters such as thermal and incident fast ion density, are essential to the calculation process. In this paper, the time evolution of the neutron signal from an He3 counter during the beam blank has permitted to facilitate the estimation of the slowing down time of energetic particles and the method is applied to investigate the fast ion effect on ELM suppressed KSTAR plasma which is heated by high energy deuterium neutral beams.

  • For an enhanced thermoelectric performance, one-dimensional heterostructure nanowires were created that consisted of aBi core and Te shell. The structure was fabricated by depositing Te in-situ onto a Bi nanowire grown by our unique OFF-ON (on-film formation of nanowires) method. After examining a cross-sectional TEM image, it was found that diffusive interface was formed between Bi and Te. Selected area electron diffraction revealed that the crystallinity of the Te shell was some what lower compared to the highly single-crystalline Bi core. The Bi-Te core/shell nanowires can be a smart structure that suppresses phonon transport by several scattering mechanisms, making the OFF-ON method the simplest way to realize that structure.

  • Bentonite is the most probable candidate to be used as a buffer in a deep geological repository with high swelling properties, hydraulic conductivity, thermal conductivity, and radionuclide sorption ability. Among them, the radionuclide sorption ability prevents or delays the transport of radionuclides into the nearby environment when an accident occurs and the radionuclide leaks from the canister, so it needs to be strengthened in terms of long-term disposal safety. Here, we proposed a surface modification method in which some inorganic additives were added to form NaP zeolite on the surface of the bentonite yielded at Yeonil, South Korea. We confirmed that the NaP zeolite was well-formed on the bentonite surface, which also increased the sorption efficiency of Cs and Sr from groundwater conditions. Both NaP and NaX zeolite can be produced and we have demonstrated that the generation mechanism of NaX and NaP is due to the number of homogeneous/heterogeneous nucleation sites and the number of nutrients supplied from an aluminosilicate gel during the surface modification process. This study showed the potential of surface modification on bentonite to enhance the safety of deep geological radioactive waste repository by improving the radionuclide sorption ability of bentonite.
