In this paper, we argue that the gigahertz peaked spectrum (GPS) quasars are special blazars, blazars in dense and dusty gas enviornment. The ROSAT detection rate of GPS quasars is similar to that of flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs), suggesting that the relativistic jets in GPS quasars are oriented at small angle to the line of sight. Due to strong inverse Compton scattering off infrared photons from dense and dusty nuclear interstellar media in GPS quasars, most of them may have significant soft gamma-ray and X-ray emission, which is consistent with ASCA X-ray observations. Because Compton cooling in GPS quasars is stronger than that in FSRQs, synchrotron emission in GPS quasars may less dominate over thermal emission of the accretion disk and hot dust, hence most GPS quasars show low optical polarization and small variability, consistent with observations. We suggest that it is the significant radio emission of electron/positron pairs produced by the interaction of gamma-rays with the dense gas and dust grains in GPS quasars that makes GPS quasars show steep radio spectra, low radio polarization, and relatively faint VLBI/VLBA cores. Whether GPS quasars are special blazars can be tested by gamma-ray observations with GLAST in the near future, with the detection rate of GPS quasars being similar to that of FSRQs.
The post-LOCA long term cooling (LTC) performance of the Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plant (KSNPP) is analyzed for both small break loss-of-coolant accidents (LOCA) and large break LOCA at cold leg. The RELAP5/MOD3.2.2 beta code is used to calculate the LTC sequences based on the LTC plan of the Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plants (KSNPP). A standard input model is developed such that LOCA and the followed LTC sequence can be calculated in a single run for both small break LOCA and large break LOCA. A spectrum of small break LOCA ranging from \ulcorner.02 to 0.5 k2 of break area and a double-ended guillotine break are analyzed. Through the code calculations, the thermal-hydraulic behavior and the boron behavior are evaluated and the effect of the important action including the safety injection tank (SIT isolation and the simultaneous injection in LTC procedure is investigated. As a result, it is found that the sufficient margin is available in avoiding the boron precipitation in the core. It is also found that a further specific condition for the SIT isolation action need to be setup and it is recommended that the early initiation of the simultaneous injection be taken for larger break LTC sequences.

A reflection type SEED from LP-MOCVD grown InGaAs/GaAs ESQW structures, with 5% In fraction, has been fabricated and its basic characteristics were investigated. Its intrinsic region consists of 50 pairs of alternating $100{\AA}$$In_{0.05}Ga_{0.95}As$ barrier and $100{\AA}$ GaAs layers. And a multilayer reflector stack of $Al_{0.12}Ga_{0.88}As(641{\AA})-/AlAs(774{\AA})$ was vertically integrated below the p-i-n structures. The device processing includes the mesa etching, insulator deposition, indium metallization, and thermal alloy for Ohmic contact. Photocurrent spectrum measurement showed the exciton absorption peak at 905nm and availability as a optical switching device. This device showed a contrast ratio of 2:1 by the reflectance spectrum measurement.

GASFLOW-MPI is a widely used scalable computational fluid dynamics numerical tool to simulate the fluid turbulence behavior, combustion dynamics, and other related thermal-hydraulic phenomena in nuclear power plant containment. An efficient scalable linear solver for the large-scale pressure equation is one of the key issues to ensure the computational efficiency of GASFLOW-MPI. Several advanced Krylov subspace methods and scalable preconditioning methods are compared and analyzed to improve the computational performance. With the help of the powerful computational capability, the large eddy simulation turbulent model is used to resolve more detailed turbulent behaviors. A backward-facing step flow is performed to study the free shear layer, the recirculation region, and the boundary layer, which is widespread in many scientific and engineering applications. Numerical results are compared with the experimental data in the literature and the direct numerical simulation results by GASFLOW-MPI. Both time-averaged velocity profile and turbulent intensity are well consistent with the experimental data and direct numerical simulation result. Furthermore, the frequency spectrum is presented and a -5/3 energy decay is observed for a wide range of frequencies, satisfying the turbulent energy spectrum theory. Parallel scaling tests are also implemented on the KIT/IKET cluster and a linear scaling is realized for GASFLOW-MPI.

This paper presents multimodal image fusion with human pose for detecting abnormal human behaviors in low illumination conditions. Detecting human behaviors in low illumination conditions is challenging due to its limited visibility of the objects of interest in the scene. Multimodal image fusion simultaneously combines visual information in the visible spectrum and thermal radiation information in the long-wave infrared spectrum. We propose an abnormal event detection scheme based on the multimodal fused image and the human poses using the keypoints to characterize the action of the human body. Our method assumes that human behaviors are well correlated to body keypoints such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips. In detail, we extracted the human keypoint coordinates from human targets in multimodal fused videos. The coordinate values are used as inputs to train a multilayer perceptron network to classify human behaviors as normal or abnormal. Our experiment demonstrates a significant result on multimodal imaging dataset. The proposed model can capture the complex distribution pattern for both normal and abnormal behaviors.
ZnSe/ZnS, UV-blue luminescent core shell quantum dots, were synthesized via a thermal decomposition reaction of organometallic zinc and solvent coordinated Selenium (TOPSe) in a hot solvent mixture. The synthetic conditions of the core (ZnSe) and the shell (ZnS) were independently studied at various reaction temperature conditions. The obtained colloidal nanocrystals at corresponding temperatures were characterized for their optical properties by UV-vis, room temperature solution photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, and further obtained powders were characterized by XRD, TEM, and EDXS analyses. The synthetic temperature condition to obtain the best PL emission intensity for the ZnSe core was 300 ${^{\circ}C}$, and for the optimum shell capping, the temperature was 135 ${^{\circ}C}$. At this temperature, solution PL spectrum showed a narrow emission peak at 427 nm with a PL efficiency of 15%. In addition, the measured particle sizes for the ZnSe/ZnS nanocomposite via TEM were in the range of 5 to 12 nm. Furthermore, we have synthesized water-soluble ZnSe/ZnS nanoparticles by capping the ZnSe/ZnS hydrophobic surface with mercaptoacetate (MAA) molecules. For the obtained aqueous colloidal solution, the UV-vis spectrum showed an absorption peak at 250 nm, and the solution PL emission spectrum showed a peak at 425 nm, which is similar to that for hydrophobic quantum dot ZnSe/ZnS. However, the calculated PL efficiency was relatively low (0.1%) due to the luminescence quenching by water and MAA molecules. The capping ligand was also characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, with the carbonyl stretching peak in the mercaptoacetate molecule appearing at 1575 $cm ^{-1}$. Finally, the particle sizes of the MAA capped ZnSe/ZnS were measured by TEM, showing a range of 12 to 17 nm.
In the paper we validate theoretical models of the pulse against experimental data from the Jozef Stefan Institute TRIGA Mark II research reactor. Data from all pulse experiments since 1991 have been collected, analysed and are publicly available. This paper summarizes the validation study, which is focused on the comparison between experimental values, theoretical predictions (Fuchs-Hansen and Nordheim-Fuchs models) and calculation using computational program Improved Pulse Model. The results show that the theoretical models predicts higher maximum power but lower total released energy, full width at half maximum and the time when the maximum power is reached is shorter, compared to Improved Pulse Model. We evaluate the uncertainties in pulse physical parameters (maximum power, total released energy and full width at half maximum) due to uncertainties in reactor physical parameters (inserted reactivity, delayed neutron fraction, prompt neutron lifetime and effective temperature reactivity coefficient of fuel). It is found that taking into account overestimated correlation of reactor physical parameters does not significantly affect the estimated uncertainties of pulse physical parameters. The relative uncertainties of pulse physical parameters decrease with increasing inserted reactivity. If all reactor physical parameters feature an uncorrelated uncertainty of 10 % the estimated total uncertainty in peak pulse power at 3 $ inserted reactivity is 59 %, where significant contributions come from uncertainties in prompt neutron lifetime and effective temperature reactivity coefficient of fuel. In addition we analyse contribution of two physical mechanisms (Doppler broadening of resonances and neutron spectrum shift) that contribute to the temperature reactivity coefficient of fuel. The Doppler effect contributes around 30 %-15 % while the rest is due to the thermal spectrum hardening for a temperature range between 300 K and 800 K.

For efficiently designing neutron induced gamma spectroscopy sonde, Monte Carlo simulation is employed to understand a dominant location of thermal neutron and classify the formation elements from the energy peak of capture gamma spectrum. A pulsed neutron generator emitting 14 MeV neutron particles was used as a source, and flux of thermal neutron was calculated from the twelve detectors arranged at each 10 cm intervals from the source. Design for reducing borehole effects using shielding materials was also applied to numerical sonde model. Moreover, principal elements and quantities of numerical earth models were verified through the energy spectrum analysis of capture gamma detected from a gamma detector. These results can help to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio, and determine an optimal placement of capture gamma detectors of neutron induced gamma spectroscopy sonde.
Electronic properties of passive films formed on Ti at film formation potentials $(E_f)V_{SCE}$ in pH 8.5 buffer solution and in an artificial seawater were examined through the photocurrent measurement and Mott-Schottky analysis. The passive films formed on Ti in pH 8.5 buffer solution exhibited a n-type semiconductor with a band gap energys $(E_g);E_g^{n=2}=3.4$ eV for nondirect electron transition, and $E_g^{n=0.5}=3.7$ eV for direct electron transition. These band gap values were almost same as those for the passive films formed in artificial seawater, indicating that chloride ion ($Cl^-$ in solution did not affect the electronic structure of the passive film on Ti. $E_g$ for passive films formed on Ti were found to be greater than those ($E_g^{n=0.5}=3.1$ eV, $E_g^{n=2}=3.4$) for a thermal oxide film formed on Ti in air at $400^{\circ}C$. The disorder energy of passive film, determined from the absorption tail of photocurrent spectrum, was much greater than that for the thermal oxide film farmed on Ti in air at $400^{\circ}C$. The greater $E_g$ and the higher disorder energy for the passive film compared with those for the thermal oxide fIlm suggest that the passive film on Ti exhibited more disorded structure than the thermal oxide film. The donor density (about $2.4{\times}10^{20}cm^{-3}$) for the passive film formed in artificial seawater was greater than that (about $20{\times}10^{20}cm^{-3}$) formed in pH 8.5 buffer solution, indicating that $Cl^-$ increased the donor density for the passive film on Ti.

The white light of a hybrid LED is obtained by using red and green organic fluorescent layers made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) films, which function as color down-conversion layers of blue light-emitting diodes. In this research, we studied the fluorescence properties of a red organic fluorophore, employing perylene bisimide derivatives applicable to hybrid LEDs. The solubility, thermal stability, and luminous efficiency are important characteristics of organic fluorophores for use in hybrid LEDs. The perylene fluorescent compounds (1A and 1B) were prepared by the reaction of 4-bromophenol and 4-iodophenol with N,N'-bis(4-bromo-2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-1, 6,7,12-tetrachloroperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxyl diimide (1) in the presence of dimethyl formaldehyde (DMF) at $70^{\circ}C$. The synthesized derivatives were characterized by using $^1H-NMR$, FT-IR, UV/Vis absorption and PL spectra, and TGA analysis. Compounds 1A and 1B showed absorption and emission at 570 nm and 604 nm in the UV/Vis spectrum. We also documented favorable solubility and thermal stability characteristics of the perylene fluorophores in our work. Perylene fluorophore 1, with the 4-bromophenol substituent 1A, exhibited particularly good thermal stability and solubility in organic solvents.
