Thermal imager is now regarded as one of the key observation devices for ISR activities and getting important more and more. As other detectors, however, the thermal detectors also have maximum input and therefore they will be saturated if the input IR energy exceeds the allowed range. The saturation in the thermal detector makes it impossible to distinguish the target from background, as a result, the thermal imager does not perform its own mission anymore. In order to get an insight related with the image saturation, this paper develops a saturation model for a thermal imaging system, not a thermal detector. The proposed modeling starts from analyzing the specification of a thermal imager. Coupled with the characteristic parameters of the object, the saturation model can be used to predict the distance on which the detector is saturated. The proposed saturation model prove its validity by applying it for the case of observing a flash-bang.

Columnar-structured cesium iodide (CsI) scintillators doped with thallium (Tl) are frequently used as x-ray converters in medical and industrial imaging. In this study we investigated the imaging characteristics of CsI:Tl films with various reflective layers-aluminum (Al), chromium (Cr), and titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) powder-coated on glass substrates. We used two effusion-cell sources in a thermal evaporator system to fabricate CsI:Tl films on substrates. The scintillators were observed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and scintillation characteristics were evaluated on the basis of the emission spectrum, light output, light response to x-ray dose, modulation transfer function (MTF), and x-ray images. Compared to control films without a reflective layer, CsI:Tl films with reflective layers showed better sensitivity and light collection efficiency, and the film with a $TiO_2$ reflective layer showed the best properties.
Laser speckle patterns were used to monitor variations of thermal voltages of a cathode during a battery discharge. Discharge voltages measured with an oscilloscope were utilized as a figure of merit of thermal voltages in Zn metal. Using an optical imaging system, speckle patterns were taken for zinc metal surface over a time period of 3 minutes. Pixel sum distribution functions (PSDFs) were extracted from speckle patterns. Accumulated pixel sums quantified from PSDFs over an optimized grayscale range strongly correlated with discharge voltages. This suggested that dark matter or particles may have the capability of both absorbing and radiating thermal energies simultaneously. The black body-like properties were able to be validated by identifying coincidences with distinct features of a black body spectrum. The pixels belonging to the grayscale range were confirmed to represent dark matter of a speckle pattern. It was clear that dark matter was part of surface plasmon carriers. The proposed sensing system can be applied to monitor thermal energy variations in any material.

This paper describes the design principles and methods of electronic processor for thermal imager with 320$\times$240 staring array infrared detector. For the detector's nonuniformity correction and excellent image quality, we have designed the multi-point correction method using the defocusing technique of the optics. And to enhance the image of low contrast and improve the detection capability, the new technique of histogram processing has been designed. Through these image processing techniques, we have developed the high quality thermal imager and acquired a satisfactory thermal image. The result of MRTD(Minimum Resolvable Temperature Difference) is $0.1^{\circ}C$ at 4cycles/mard.
For use of the thermal cycle of the biochemical fluid sample, the isothermal temperature source with a large surface area was designed, fabricated and its thermal characterization was experimentally evaluated. The comprehensive overview of the technology trend on the temperature control devices was detailed. The large surface area isothermal temperature source was realized by using the vapor chamber heat spreader. The cost-effectiveness and simple manufacturing process were achieved by using the metal-etched wick structure. The temperature distribution was quantitatively investigated by using IR temperature imaging system at equivalent temperatures to the PCR thermal cycle. The standard deviation was measured to be within 0.7$^{\circ}C$ for each temperature cycle. This concludes that the presented isothermal temperature source enables no temperature gradient inside bio-sample fluid. Furthermore it can be applied to the cooling of the electronic devices due to its slimness and low thermal spreading resistance.
In the pursuit of enhancing image fusion techniques, this research presents a novel approach for fusing multimodal images, specifically infrared (IR) and visible (VIS) images, utilizing a combination of partial differential equations (PDE) and discrete cosine transformation (DCT). The proposed method seeks to leverage the thermal and structural information provided by IR imaging and the fine-grained details offered by VIS imaging create composite images that are superior in quality and informativeness. Through a meticulous fusion process, which involves PDE-guided fusion, DCT component selection, and weighted combination, the methodology aims to strike a balance that optimally preserves essential features and minimizes artifacts. Rigorous evaluations, both objective and subjective, are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the approach. This research contributes to the ongoing advancement of multimodal image fusion, addressing applications in fields like medical imaging, surveillance, and remote sensing, where the marriage of IR and VIS data is of paramount importance.

Amorphous selenium based flat panel detectors convert incident x-ray to electric signal directly. Flat panel detectors gain more interest real time medical x-ray imaging. TFT array and electric readout circuits are used in this paper offered by LG.Philips.LCD. Detector is based on a $1536{\times}1280$ array of a-Si TFT pixels. X-ray conversion layer(a-Se) is deposited upper TFT array with a $400{\mu}m$ by thermal deposition technology. Thickness uniformity of this layer is made of thickness control system technology$({\leq}5%)$. Each $139{\mu}m{\times}139{\mu}m$ pixel is made of thin film transistor technology, a storage capacitor and collecting electrode having geometrical fill factor of 86%. This system show dynamic performance. Imaging performance is suited for digital radiography imaging substitute by conventional radiography film system.
This paper presents temperature measurement of solar photovoltaic modules using the custom-made system composed of an infrared temperature sensor and a microcontroller. The obtained measurement results are processed, displayed and stored on a PC using the custom-made virtual instrument. The proposed system overcomes some of the problems related to the contact sensor application, and at the same time offers accurate readings and better flexibility. The proposed system is especially suitable for applications where the cost is a limiting factor in the choice of measuring system. The conducted analysis and the obtained results have shown an excellent accuracy of the proposed system in comparison to a high quality thermal imaging camera used as the reference instrument.
Medical infrared imaging is obtained by measuring the self-emitted infrared radiance from the human body. Infrared emission is related to surface temperature and temperature is one of the most important physiological parameters related to health. Though recent applications such as security identification and oriental medicine have provided new fields of biomedical applications, infrared thermography has had ups and downs in its usages in cancer detection. Some of the main difficulties include finding proper applications and efficient diagnostic algorithms. In this study, infrared thermal imaging was used to detect regional metastasis of breast cancer. Our measurements were done for 110 women. From 63 individuals of a Healthy Group and a Benign Breast Disease Group, we developed algorithms for differentiating malignant regional metastasis based on temperature difference and asymmetry of temperature distribution. Testing with 47 cancer patients, we achieved a positive predictive value of $87.5\%$ and a negative predictive value of $95.6\%$. The results were better than for mammogram examination. A proper analysis of infrared imaging proved to be a highly informative and sensitive method for differentiating regional cancer metastasis from normal regions.

While the conventional personal protective equipments (PPEs) covers a variety of devices and garments such as respirators, turnout gear, gloves, blankets and gas masks, several electronic devices such as personal alert safety system (PASS) and heads-up displays in the facepiece have become a part of firefighters personal protective equipments through past several years. Furthermore, more advanced electronic sensors including location traking sensor, thermal imaging caerma, toxic gas detectors, and even physiological monitoring sensors are being integrated into ensemble elements for better protection of firefighters from fire sites. Despite any electronic equipment placed on the firefighter must withstand environmental extremes and continue to properly function under any thermal conditions that firefighters routinely face, there are no specific criteria for these electronics to define functionability of these devices under given thermal conditions. Although manufacturers provide the specifications and performance guidelines for their products, their operation guidelines hardly match the real thermal conditions. Present study overviews firefighter's fatalities and thermal conditions that firefighters and their equipments face. Lastly, thermal packaging methods that we have developed and tested are introduced.
