The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of the Reformation Calvin undertook in Geneva and see what efficient functions Christianity can afford to reveal its value in urban settings today. Calvin's Reformation provided a clear place and role for the Church in the public domain. In addition, Calvin's process of religious reform has always been followed by interest and welfare practices for the socially disadvantaged, such as the poor and women. In this understanding, the study presented the following applications that modern churches can practice in urban settings today: First, the church should be able to clearly understand the diversity, liquidity, and dynamics of the urban environment and make changes through various situational applications supported by the Bible. Second, the church's missional approach should shift from a believing-belonging process to a sense of belonging-believing. Third, the transition from a familiar traditional church to a new social reality is necessary, and efforts are needed to clearly understand the interests and atmosphere of community communities and keep pace with them. And finally, modern churches need to maintain new ecological sensitivity than ever before.

This study aims to discuss ways needed to prepare their careers through relations between the personal internal factors perceived by college students in the process of career preparation and the external factors they experience during college life. To this end, the study conducted not only a questionnaire survey of 927 students at K University in Seoul but also hierarchical multiple regression analysis, independent two sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA (analysis of variance). The study set career preparation as a dependent variable, presented research models in four steps, and the explanatory power of each model was statistically significant. According to the findings of the study, both Model 1 and Model 2, gender had a significant impact on career preparation. Also, when self-directedness was added to Model 2, self-directedness had a greater impact on career preparation than gender did. When satisfaction with extracurricular activities was added to Model 3, this factor turned out to be helpful for career preparation. When college immersion, or a sense of belonging to college, was added to Model 4, the higher the sense of belonging students perceived, the more helpful they felt it for their career preparations. This study is expected to be helpful in preparing a policy to support college students' career preparation by grasping the relations between the personal characteristics of college students and career-related activities and college immersion they experience during college life.

Humans desire the achievement a of sense of unity between themselves and place to create an identity of place as a realization of his or her sense of belonging. Humans develop ideas from their culture and environment to be expressed physically within the landscape through symbols. Symbols are formed within a place through the structure of the space and, more visually, through the details. The purpose of this paper is to examine the structure of space and the details of 'the Courtyard of the lions' in the Alhambra and to study how the details influence the formation of the identity of place. This paper also compares the structure and details in terms of the meaning of symbols, design languages, cultural, social and historical background and the experience of the place. The structure of the space in 'the Courtyard of the Lions' represents Paradise in the Islamic religion a common theme in the composition of traditional Islamic gardens. The design languages expressed within the structure are order, balance, accent and enclosure; the inherit meanings of the structure are religion, the natural environment and way of life. The details tell of the ideology of Paradise, royalty, nature, and praise of God, while their design languages include physical and visual continuity, accent, variation, the feeling of movement, rhythm, and depth perception. The details also express the historical background of the Dynasty of Nasrid and the style of Mudejar. The name 'the Courtyard of the Lions' was taken from the detail of the lim figures, details within the landscape which are important in building an identity of place. This study demonstrates that the details at 'the Courtyard of the lions' achieved a sense of unity between man and place. In conclusion, details have immense influence in building of the identity of place.

The purpose of this study is to develop an online community construct, which proposes an inclusive illustration of the structure of online communities, for online community designers. This study reviewed researches from psychology, sociology, management engineering, and practical reports to understand the characteristics and dynamics of online communities. The proposed online community construct visualizes the cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects of online community. As the notion of community originates from geographical groups, and with the assumption that geographical community shares identical characteristics with online community, this study reviewed researches about geographical communities as a starting-point. Then the study went through three main perspectives (1) online community attributes, (2) sense of online community and (3) challenges of online community. Then this study proposed an online community construct that encompasses the reviewed frameworks. The online community can be seen as a congregation of members from two sources. One is from the 'Shared Goal' that meets the personal needs. Given the shared goal, members gather into the community without personal relationship and have more chances to feel the sense of belonging to their needs fulfillment or benefit. This befitting tendency leads to strengthening of membership. Public online forums fall under this classification. The other source is from the emotional connections that are already initiated by personal and casual contacts in the real world. The network of emotional connection can evolve into an online congregation of people under faint boundaries. Although there is no (or weak) shared goal, members are strongly bound to other members. Personal homepage or web log (blog) can be classified as an example of relationship-oriented community.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the various signs seen on TV commercials for school uniforms since year 2000, thus uncovering the connotative meanings in them. For this study, the semiotic approach has been used. The signs seen on the TV commercials are separated into linguistic and visual signs. They are found to have symbolic connotations. The results are as follows: First, there are plenty of signs expressing the sense of belonging to the student group and sense of conformity to his or her peer group. They are intended to garner their collective identity in the peer group of teenagers. Second, the TV commercials express the self that is realizing one's value dynamically. The frequent designation of 'I', 'me' and 'myself' represents that I am at the center of the world. Furthermore, the suggestion of diverse student roles beyond mere academic pursuits symbolically shows the ideal self that most teenagers wish to have. Third, the TV commercials implied a commercial ideology. That is expressed in the emphasis on aesthetic value that teenagers can realize their self only by consuming expensive school uniform brands. Forth, there are many signs related to appearance and appearance care. They are expressed with very specific signs such as 3 : 7 proportion, long legs, small face, and so on. Repeating or emphasizing the importance of looks and a certain brand name as the tool to accomplish better looks indicates that it contains the ideology of appearance management.

This study analyzes the creation process of local cultural contents that appears in the Maeul-mandeulgi by utilizing the "Village Rituals" handed down from village. The purpose is to analyze the social values and meanings they represent. For this purpose, a qualitative research method using Chilgok-gun Yeong-ori was applied and analyzed through Lefebvre's the production of space theory. Residents began to recognize the necessity of projects such as Maeul-mandeulgi to overcome the community crisis, and attempted to change the perception of existing village rituals. Residents began to recognize the need for projects such as Maeul-mandeulgi to overcome the community crisis, Attempts to change the perception of the existing village rituals resulted in spatial practice. The new cultural contents were created by adding a playful element to the existing Cheonwangje, and thereby strengthening the identity of the village. This resulted in the reproduction of the village as a new cultural space, but it showed the reproduction of the space in which the alienation occurred due to excessive physical expansion. However, through this process, villagers increased their sense of belonging and increased their satisfaction, which showed the process of being produced as a space of representation that strengthens the sense of community.

The purpose of this paper is to study and propose playground facilities for physically challenged children to cultivate adaptability in society and advances the opportunity of participate in physical exercise. This study carried out site investigations by visiting and inspecting various facilities: a recreational walking path for physically challenged people, a care facility for physically challenged children, a special school for physically challenged children, and "Madel Park", a private-use playground for physically challenged children. The result of the site investigation found that, overall, play facilities are difficult to use for physically challenged children. In addition, because park space is often small and narrow, children who are restricted to wheelchairs find it impossible to access such facilities. By carefully inspecting each of the facilities, the author found suitable elements to apply for outside play space. These elements include the introduction of an essential slope way to allow for safe movement, the provision of special seats which support the body to outside play equipment and the adaptation of treatment room instruments that assist balance to outdoor playground facilities. On the basis of the site investigation the interview and the indoor education program for physically challenged children the author completed an outside play program. Each item in this program was classified as belonging to either a "sense play" program or and "exercise play" program. Finally, the author designed suitable play equipment for physically challenged children corresponding to each item in the exercise programs in order to research the appropriateness of the equipment to its intended use. This research is the first step. From this point the author expects that specific applications will be developed through a practical space plan and sufficient clinical experiments involving use of the new equipment.

Apart from keeping the body pleasant and protecting it from the environment, the purpose of clothing is to express one's sensibility, sense of belonging, status, and aesthetic sense. In the past, hanbok was also used to express status and class with the colors and the types and according to the times, the forms of hanbok has changed. Nowadays, people choose and wear hanbok that suits their tastes or purposes and various types of hanbok that considered pros and cons of it are now disseminated. Given this reality, traditional shrouds that are worn by the dead should also be designed newly to fit the modern trend. This research aims to analyze how people's sensibility preferences change on the traditional shrouds and the modern shrouds that are designed to fit the current trend. To see the change, this research analyzes sensibility preferences by using Semantic Differential Method on 4 modern shrouds that are used in preceding research and 1 traditional shroud. The survey was answered by total of 130 ordinary people in groups of 26 people in 5 groups who reside in Seoul and Kyungkhi province. As the result of the analysis, firstly, people preferred "high quality", "elegant", and "Korean" sensibility words for modern shrouds 1, 2, 3, and 4. Secondly, on traditional shroud, "uncomfortable", "neutral-elegant", "neutral-Korean", and "neutral-quality" that is closer to low quality sensibility words are preferred. Thirdly, "modest" and "extravagant" did not show any statistically significant difference. I hope this research can provide basic data that can be used to understand and comprehend on people's sensibility preference about shroud designs.

Current technology does not emphasize closer connection through group collaboration, but rather underlines the distances and separations that are visible in today's society. As the interpretation of our territory of life which is still based on the model of the 'physical' of industrial era is no more valid, a different 'sense of belonging' corresponds to this new notion of territory. The main idea is how to make the sense of community to connect actual space with one child from each place. Therefore, the subject of this thesis is to design the system making children from distance to be closer, developing 'learning community' connecting with two classes across the globe. The contents include its studying in respect to the development of a non-geographical 'learning community' based on co-evolution, and to the system design of conceptual models for the community. In conclusion, the physical interface design is suggested to let user develop accurate mental models of the system.

This study aims to raise our understanding of how memory of a social group is transnationally appropriated and utilized by other subjects. A collective sense of justice for comfort women has been handed to many Koreans either in Korea or in overseas countries since the early 1990s. In the U.S., the first comfort women monument was established in Palisades Park, New Jersey by Korean-Americans and local politicians as they wanted to strengthen the common sense of Korean ethnicity with the symbolic power of the memoryscape. Exploring the diffusion of comfort women memorials in the U.S., this study examines the complexity and multilayered structure of memory politics and its transnational mobility, which are connected to Korean-Americans' struggle for belonging.
