This study examined the effects of self-esteem, relationships with parents and peer relationships on adolescents' internet addiction among middle school students. Data were derived from 439 students in the 8th grade. The results of the study showed that internet addiction was higher in male adolescents compared to female adolescents. This study identified that internet addiction of male adolescents was affected by low levels of self-esteem and peer relationships. Poor relationship with parents and low levels of peer relationships were factors influencing internet addiction among female adolescents. It might be useful to improve interpersonal relations based on peers' interactions and to strengthen family relations in order to prevent internet addiction. In addition, it would help to develop educational programs and youth programs for preventing adolescents' internet addiction.

The purpose of this study was to examine gender differences in the impact of exposure to peer delinquency among elementary school-age students and the mediating effects of aggression. The study utilized 458 cases (220 male students, 238 female students) of data from the 2015 Korea Welfare Panel Study (KoWePS) conducted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA). The theoretical frameworks used in this study included Bandura's social learning theory, Akers' social learning theory, and Sutherland's differential association theory. The findings were as follows. First, there was no statistically significant effect on peer group's delinquency experience overall, aggression, and delinquency experience by gender. Second, male students' delinquency experience of their peer group had a statistically significant effect on their delinquency, however, this was not true for female students. Third, in the case of male students, aggression was found to mediate the relationship between peer group delinquency experience and their own delinquency, but not for female students. From these findings, we suggest a practical and policy-driven intervention plan, focusing on reducing the contact frequency of delinquency experience and aggression, The purpose of this study was to examine gender differences in the impact of exposure to peer delinquency among elementary school-age students and the mediating effects of aggression. This study aimed to investigate the social consequences of happiness. For this purpose, we examined the effect of happiness on the formation of adolescents' peer relationship. A total of 241 Korean junior high school students completed a happiness questionnaire consisting of subjective well-being, psychological well-being, self-esteem, and optimism at the beginning of the school year. Four months later, their popularity and social behaviors were measured using self-reports and peer-nomination measures. Happy male students were more likely to become nominated as a preferred friend by their peers at the end of the semester; happy females were evaluated by their peers as being more creative than others. Happy adolescents also viewed themselves as being more sociable, popular, and having more leadership than others. Overall, the findings imply that happiness also have positive social consequences in highly collectivist cultural settings, such as Korea.
