This study analyzes the engineering characteristics of mortar according to admixture replacement ratios in cement mortar in a high-intensity ternary system, and changes in FA and BS combination ratios, in order to deduce the optimal combination ratio of FA and BS. Results showed that due to the characteristics of unhardened mortar, flow rate increased with the increase in admixture replacement and FA combination ratios, whereas air quantity decreased and setting time was delayed. Due to the characteristics of light mortar, compression strength decreased at early material ages as the overall combination ratio of FA increased. The FA : BS combination ratio was 2 : 3 on day 28 of material age, proving the best and potentially optimal combination ratio.

In this study, the relationship between the shape of a passenger airbag and the possibility of injury is analyzed using the Taguchi method. The optimal shape combination is proposed for a design guideline that can reduce the possibility of injury to the dummy. The airbag FE model for analysis is obtained using a CAD system that can change the shape through several independent variables. The widths of the left / right, top / bottom, and back / forth direction of the airbag shape are set as the design factors, and the effect of the combination injury probability according to the shape is analyzed. The minimum geometric combinations are obtained using the orthogonal array method. The signal to noise ratio is calculated and the optimal shape combination is obtained through sensitivity analysis. The obtained optimal shape combination is compared with the possibility of injury of the initial airbag shape to confirm improved airbag performance.
This paper investigates linear soft combination schemes for cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks. We propose two weight-setting strategies under different basic optimality criteria to improve the overall sensing performance in the network. The corresponding optimal weights are derived, which are determined by the noise power levels and the received primary user signal energies of multiple cooperative secondary users in the network. However, to obtain the instantaneous measurement of these noise power levels and primary user signal energies with high accuracy is extremely challenging. It can even be infeasible in practical implementations under a low signal-to-noise ratio regime. We therefore propose reference data matrices to scavenge the indispensable information of primary user signal energies and noise power levels for setting the proposed combining weights adaptively by keeping records of the most recent spectrum observations. Analyses and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed linear soft combination schemes outperform the conventional maximal ratio combination and equal gain combination schemes and yield significant performance improvements in spectrum sensing.

We present an efficient hardware prime generator that generates a prime p by combining trial division and Fermat test in parallel. Since the execution time of this parallel combination is greatly influenced by the number k of the smallest odd primes used in the trial division, it is important to determine the optimal k to create the fastest parallel combination. We present probabilistic analysis to determine the optimal k and to estimate the expected running time for the parallel combination. Our analysis is conducted in two stages. First, we roughly narrow the range of optimal k by using the expected values for the random variables used in the analysis. Second, we precisely determine the optimal k by using the exact probability distribution of the random variables. Our experiments show that the optimal k and the expected running time determined by our analysis are precise and accurate. Furthermore, we generalize our analysis and propose a guideline for a designer of a hardware prime generator to determine the optimal k by simply calculating the ratio of M to D, where M and D are the measured running times of a modular multiplication and an integer division, respectively.

In statutes on the promotion of distribution of new and renewable energy, which were revised in 2014, daylight system and fuel cell were added in addition to existing new and renewable energy sources. This study, therefore, aimed at setting up targets for the introduction of daylight system and analyzing the installation rate of new and renewable energy which can be provided by daylight system for the aggressive use of daylight system, thereby deducting the optimal combination ratio with other new and renewable energy sources. The results of the study are as follows. First, when a prism-shaped daylight system was installed to a round indoor gymnasium among domestic indoor gymnasiums, out of a supply obligations allotment rate of 15% of new and renewable energy, the rate of daylight system was basically set at 2.5%. Second, therefore, with daylight system coming first, the lacked supply obligations rate was taken up by solar photovoltaic, solar heat and geothermal heat. In addition, using the KRESS Program, economic, technical, environmental and complexity evaluations for the upper 5% was made, deducting the optimal ratio of the system. The results produced the following optimal combination ratios: solar photovoltaic (83.3%) in economic evaluation, solar heat (8.3%) and geothermal heat (75%) in technical evaluation, solar photovoltaic (83.3%) in environmental evaluation, and solar photovoltaic (83.3%, the same as in economic evaluation) in complexity evaluation.
Using the genetic algorithm, the optimal-design technique of the Nielsen arch bridge was proposed in this paper. The design parameters were the arch-rise ratio and the steel weight ratio of the Nielsen arch bridge, and optimal-design techniques were utilized to analyze the behavior of the bridge. The optimal parameter values were determined for the estimated optimal level. The parameter determination requires the standardization of the safety, utility, and economic concepts as the critical factors of a structure. For this, a genetic algorithm was used, whose global-optimal-solution search ability is superior to the optimization technique, and whose object function in the optimal design is the total weight of the structure. The constraints for the optimization were displacement, internal stress, and time and space. The structural analysis was a combination of the small displacement theory and the genetic algorithm, and the runtime was reduced for parallel processing. The optimal-design technique that was developed in this study was employed and deduced using the optimal arch-rise ratio, steel weight ratio, and optimal-design domain. The optimal-design technique was presented so it could be applied in the industry.
The Tank model and the PRMS(Precipitation Runoff Modeling-modular System) model have been adopted to simulate runoff data from 1981 to 2001 year in the Seomgin-dam basin. However, the simulated runoff by each single model showed some deviations compared with the observed runoff, respectively. In this study a genetic algorithm combination runoff model has been proposed to minimize deviations between simulated runoff and observed runoff that should yield from single model such as Tank model or PRMS model. The proposed combination runoff model combining the simulated respective output of the Tank model and the PRMS model is to produce the optimum combination ratio of each single model applying to the genetic algorithm which may yield the minimum deviations between simulated runoff and observed one. The proposed combination runoff model has been applied to the Seomgin-dam basin. It has also been shown that the combination model by introducing optimal combination ratio should yield less deviations than single model such as the Tank model or the PRMS model.
The purpose of the study is carried out volume optimization of a combined system consisting of an LNT and SCR catalysts from the standpoint of its economic feasibility and de-NOx performance. Under the rich air-fuel ratio conditions for 5s (${\Phi}$=1.1), CO, $H_2$ and THC were generated at levels of 4%, 1.2% and $110ppmC_1$, respectively. The NOx conversion of the 1+1 combination was 5% lower than that of the 1.5+0.5 combination, however the reduced volume of the LNT catalyst decreased the total cost by about 6%. Therefore, the optimal volume ratio of the LNT and SCR catalysts was found to be the 1+1 catalyst combination, which has the highest total score in the terms of an economic feasibility and the NOx performance.
Fenton reaction with zerovalent iron (ZVI) and $Fe^{2+}$ ions was studied to treat pharmaceutical wastewaters (PhWW) including antibiotics and non-biodegradable organics. Incremental biodegradability was assessed by monitoring biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) changes during Fenton reaction. Original undiluted wastewater samples were used as collected from the pharmaceutical factory. Experiments were carried out to obtain optimal conditions for Fenton reaction under different $H_2O_2$ and ion salts (ZVI and $Fe^{2+}$) concentrations. The optimal ratio and dosage of $H_2O_2$/ZVI were 5 and 25/5 g/L (mass basis), respectively. Also, the optimal ratio and dosage of $H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ ions were 5 and 35/7 g/L (mass basis), respectively. Under optimized conditions, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency by ZVI was 23% better than the treatment with $Fe^{2+}$ ion. The reaction time was 45 min for ZVI and shorter than 60 min for $Fe^{2+}$ ion. The COD and total organic carbon (TOC) were decreased, but BOD was increased under the optimal conditions of $H_2O_2$/ZVI = 25/5 g/L, because organic compounds were converted into biodegradable intermediates in the early steps of the reaction. The BOD/TOC ratio was increased, but reverse-wise, the COD/TOC was decreased because of generated intermediates. The biodegradability was increased about 9.8 times (BOD/TOC basis), after treatment with ZVI. The combination of chemical and biological processes seems an interesting combination for treating PhWW.

The data imbalance problem which can be uncounted in data mining classification problems typically means that there are more or less instances in a class than those in other classes. It causes low prediction accuracy of the minority class because classifiers tend to assign instances to major classes and ignore the minor class to reduce overall misclassification rate. In order to solve the data imbalance problem, there has been proposed a number of techniques based on resampling with replacement, adjusting decision thresholds, and adjusting the cost of the different classes. In this paper, we study the feasibility of the combination usage of the techniques previously proposed to deal with the data imbalance problem, and suggest a combination method using genetic algorithm to find the optimal combination ratio of the techniques. To improve the prediction accuracy of a minority class, we determine the combination ratio based on the F-value of the minority class as the fitness function of genetic algorithm. To compare the performance with those of single techniques and the matrix-style combination of random percentage, we performed experiments using four public datasets which has been generally used to compare the performance of methods for the data imbalance problem. From the results of experiments, we can find the usefulness of the proposed method.
