The hovercraft is the amphibious hovercraft. Design and manufacturing companies of the aero propeller exist rarely in the world. Hence the propeller has beef designed and manufactured by manufacturing companies which make aero propeller mainly. In this paper, the hovercraft propeller of similar, which is building and designing by HHIC, is considered the type of aero propeller, rotational speed, diameter, number of blades, Open air propeller efficiency. As the result of check, hovercraft which is necessary huge static thrust is needed the ducted propeller in order to improve climbing capacity. However, the number of blades and turning direction almost do not affect.
Recently there has been a remarkable increase in the number of high speed and large ships, and the high power involved for propulsion of above ships have brought high pitch ratio and high skew propeller. The recent tendency toward highly skewed propeller has increased the load on propeller blades and the fatigue strength of propeller blades has become the critical point in design of propellers for above ships. In this paper fatigue tests in sea water were carried out on propeller material of Ni-Al bronze. The stress and environmental conditions of the test were selected to be close to those of full size propellers in use. The effect of stress ratio, stress frequency, revolution number of propeller for above ships numbers and so on were discussed.
In this study, the effects of inclined shaft angle on the hydro-acoustic performance of cavitating marine propellers are investigated by a numerical method developed before and Brown's empirical formula. The cavitating blades are represented by source and vortex elements. The cavity characteristics of the blades such as cavitation form, cavity volume, cavity length etc., are computed at a given cavitation number and at a set advance coefficient. A lifting surface method is applied for these calculations. The numerical lifting surface method is validated with experimental results of DTMB 4119 model benchmark propeller. After calculation of hydrodynamic characteristics of the cavitating propeller, noise spectrum and overall sound pressure level (OASPL) are computed by Brown's equation. This empirical equation is also validated with another numerical results found in the literature. The effects of inclined shaft angle on thrust coefficient, torque coefficient, efficiency and OASPL values are examined by a parametric study. By modifying the inclination angles of propeller, the thrust, torque, efficiency and OASPL are computed and compared with each other. The influence of the inclined shaft angle on cavity patterns on the blades are also discussed.

The recent tendency toward highly skewed propeller has increased the load on propeller blades, and the fatigue strength of propeller blades has become the critical point in design of propellers for ships. In this paper the effect of stress ratio and skew angle on the fatigue strength of highly skewed propeller, the statistical inference on the total revolutions of highly skewed propeller for 20 years under normal sea going state. and so on have been discussed. On the basis of above discussions, the highly skewed propeller blade thicknesses by the rules of classification society and the standards of manufacturer in country were compared and reviewed.

Recently, car-ferry passenger ships of navigating the coast area in the inside of our country are on an increasing trend of main engine power and the height of upper structure, which is increased to ship's speed and loading of large vehicles. The most ship with high-speed main engine is happened to excessive vibration by propeller induced excitation force on account of connecting the vibration of hull's girder and the upper structure by decreasing the shear stiffness and natural frequency for increasing the height of passenger deck. In this paper, By exchanging the propeller of alteration the number of blades, it could be keep to ship's speed and it's decreased the vibration of hull part that is located passenger deck on the upper deck, which is identified by countermeasure of protection against vibration to procure the safety ship's navigation through measuring the vibration of hull structure.

In this paper, the design method of a low-head propeller-type hydro turbine is studied for various numbers of blades on an axial propeller. We also investigate the relationship between geometrical parameters and internal performance parameters, such as angular velocities (100, 200, 300, 400 rpm) and 2.5~4m low heads through a three-dimensional numerical method with the SST turbulent model. The numerical results showed that the blade number had a more dominant influence than the change in heads and rotational speed on the flow characteristics of the turbine. The distributions of pressure and velocity in the streamwise direction of the propeller turbine were graphically depicted. Especially, the relationship among dimensionless parameters like specific speed ($N_s$), flow coefficient (${\phi}$) and power coefficient (P) were investigated.

The torsional or axial critical vibration of the order coinciding with the number of propeller blades is simultaneously excited by the harmonic tangential or radial forces acting on the crank shaft and by the harmonic of the same order from the propeller. The exciting torque of propeller is relatively small comparing with that of crank side, but the exciting force of propeller rather larger than that of crank shaft. With this situation, the exciting force of propeller cannot neglect if the axial vibration of propulsion shafting is calculated. With the propeller in its optimal angular position, i.e. its excitation effect opposed to that of the engine, the stresses at the critical revolution will largely cancel themselves out. In this paper, a method of optimizing the angular propeller position with regard to torsional and axial vibration is studied. The optimal relative angle is determined theoretically by calculation results of coupled torsional-axial vibration.

In this study, the scale effect on the performance of the podded propeller of tractor type is investigated. Turbulent flow computations are carried out for Reynolds numbers increasing progressively from model scale to full scale using the CFD analysis. The result of the flow calculation for model scale Reynolds numbers agrees well with that of the experiment of a large cavitation tunnel. The existing numerical analysis indicates that the performance of the podded propeller blades is mainly influenced by the advance coefficient and relatively little by the Reynolds number. However, the drag of pod housing with propeller in operation is different from that of pod housing without propeller due to the acceleration and swirl of propeller slipstream which is altered by propeller loading as well as the pressure recovery and friction according to Reynolds number, which suggests that the pod housing drag under the condition of propeller in operation is the key factor of the scale effect on the performance between model and full scale podded propellers. The so called 'drag ratio', which is the ratio of pod housing drag to total thrust of podded propeller, increases as the advance coefficient increases due to accelerated flow in the slipstream of the podded propeller. However, the increasing rate of the drag ratio reduces continuously as the Reynolds number increases from model to full scale progressively. The contribution of hydrodynamic forces, which acts on the parts composed of the pod housing with propeller operating in various loading conditions, to the thrust and the torque of the total propeller unit are presented for a range of Reynolds numbers from model to full scales.

Recently, the design point of the propeller is gradually changing due to the demand for energy saving and environmental protection. Until recently, self-propulsion model tests were conducted using stock propellers and geometry information was provided to propeller designers, but the range of existing stock propellers did not keep up with the changing design points, and the range of series propellers required in the initial design was also insufficient. Future propeller performance requires high performance and eco-friendliness, and the need for expansion of series propellers has increased. In order to respond to future needs and provide a wide range of advantages in propeller design, KRISO manufactures about 100 series propellers and builds series data through a model tests. In this paper, the approach method for deriving the representative optimal shape to be applied to the 4-blade series propeller in the initial stage of series propeller development was summarized.

A study on propllers for unmaned aerial vehicles is conducted using the open softwares. Since the shape of the propeller is closely related to the thurst characteristics of the propulsion system, adopting an appropriate propeller will significantly reflect stable aerodynamic performances. In this study, propellers for unmanned aerial vehicles were modeled by using OpenVSP and Propel for comparison, the thrust characteristics according to the number of blades and the diameter of the propeller were analyzed. In addition, the tendency of thrust characteristics according to various propeller pitch angles was confirmed. Based on the analysis results of this study, the applicability of the propeller shape to the design of the unmanned aerial vehicle was confirmed. It is shownthat the analysis results of this study can be utilized when modeling the propeller shape in research such as a conceptual design of unmanned aerial vehicle. In this case, it should be noted that OpenVSP does not involve the viscous effect of air.
