1982-1983년.1997-1998년 엘니뇨현상 전후 한국동해역에서의 이상 저수온 현상 (Abnormal Cooling before and after the 1982-1983 and 1997-1998 ENSO Events in the Korean East Sea Water)

  • Abnormal cooling of the Korean East Sea Water(KESW) in the East Sea before and after the 1982-1983 and 1997-1998 ENSO events is examined using bimonthly routine observation data from the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute of Korea for the period 1965 to 2002. The KESW, which occupies roughly a region between the Korean Peninsula and west of approximately $131^{\circ}E$, showed extreme cold-state years(1981 and 1996) prior to the two strongest ENSO events of the last half-century. Inter-annual bimonthly mean anomalies at 100 m in the KESW region were $-3.10^{\circ}C\;and\;-3.41^{\circ}C(SD=1.4^{\circ}C)$ in 1981 and 1996, respectively. These results suggest that extreme cooling of the KESW may be a prelude to very strong ENSO events through large-scale teleconnections.

  • 본 연구에서는 지난 수십 년간 가장 파괴적인 지진해일로 기록된 1983년 동해에서 발생한 지진해일이 동해를 거쳐 우리나라 동해안으로 전파해오는 과정을 수치해석하였다. 천수방정식에 근거한 수치모형을 이용하였으며, 물리적 분산은 leap-frog 유한차분기법에 의해 발생하는 수치분산으로 어느 정도 대체하도록 하였다. 진원으로부터 지진해일 전파도와 파향선법에 의한 전파제적을 산정하였다.

Status of Korean Research Activity on Arctic Sea Ice Monitoring using KOMPSAT-series Satellite

  • Arctic warming is a global issue. The sea ice in the Arctic plays a crucial role in the climate system. We thought that a recent abnormality in many countries in the northern hemisphere could be related to the effects of shrinking sea ice in the Arctic. Many research groups monitor sea ice in the Arctic for climate research. Satellite remote sensing is an integral part of Arctic sea ice research due to the Arctic's large size, making it difficult to observe with general research equipment, and its extreme environment that is difficult for humans to access. Along with monitoring recent weather changes, Korea scientists are conducting polar remote sensing using a Korean satellite series to actively cope with environmental changes in the Arctic. The Korean satellite series is known as KOMPSAT (Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite, Korean name is Arirang) series, and it carries optical and imaging radar. Since the organization of the Satellite Remote Sensing and Cryosphere Information Center in Korea in 2016, Korean research on and monitoring of Arctic sea ice has accelerated rapidly. Moreover, a community of researchers studying Arctic sea ice by satellite remote sensing increased in Korea. In this article, we review advances in Korea's remote sensing research for the polar cryosphere over the last several years. In addition to satellite remote sensing, interdisciplinary studies are needed to resolve the current limitations on research on climate change.

  • It was in the mid-1980s when the shipboard noise analysis was introduced to the Korean shipbuilding industry. Since then through the continued efforts of the industries in the last decades, native computational codes dedicated to the shipboard noise prediction have been developed based on empirical formula and/or sophisticated theories such as SEA and PFM. This paper addresses some problems in dealing with predicting shipboard noise and the way how to overcome the uncertainties in the prediction.

규조기반 전이함수를 활용한 Holocene 중기 이후 고창군 신덕리 일대의 정량적 해수면 변동 (Quantitative Reconstruction of Sea Level Change Using Diatom-Based Transfer Function at Sinduk-ri, Gochang-Gun Since the Middle Holocene)

  • This study is quantitative reconstruction of palaeo sea level records around Sinduk-ri, Gochang-Gun. 7 cores were collected from GC14 to GC18 in order to examine the entire sedimentary facies and reconstruct the sea level records. The cores were analysed by AMS, sedimentary facies, diatom and WA-pls. As a result of the diatom analysis, diatom zone were classified as No diatom zone, B1 zone, M zone and B2 zone. The result of WA-pls was that the sea level was about 1.5m lower than the present level around 6,000 BP and about 1m lower during last 5,000 BP. Thereafter, sea level rose to the present during the Mc sub-diatom zone period. Moreover, during the Md sub-diatom zone period, sea level was about 0.5m higher than the present.

  • Each term of heat badget equation in the eastern Yellow Sea was calculated and the variation in relation to meteorological condition was shown for the period from September 1973 to February 1974, At Mal-do near Gunsan the maximum heat exchange occurred at the last ten days of December (--522 1y/day), while at Sunmi-do near Incheon it occurred at the middle ten days of November (--665 1y /day), The contribution of the sensible heat to total heat exchange increased rapidly, while the effect of cloudiness decreased to be negligible in winter. The values of the heat exchange fluctuated considerably with the periodic occurrence of the cold Siberiaa air mass. The mean evaporation heat estimated indirectly from the aerological data was 32 ly/day at the northern part and 269 ly/dlY at the southern part of the Yellow Sea in December 1973.

황해 중동부 경기만의 후기 제4기 순차층서 연구 (Late Quaternary Sequence Stratigraphy in Kyeonggi Bay, Mid-eastern Yellow Sea)

  • 황해 경기만은 제4기에 반복된 해침과 해퇴로 4개의 해침-해퇴 퇴적체(DS-1, DS-2, DS-3, DS-4)를 형성하였다. 본 연구는 황해 경기만 퇴적체의 형성을 6개 퇴적단계로 나누어 설명한다. A 단계는 MIS-6 저해수면 시기로서 큰 규모의 해수면 하강으로 인해 대부분의 지역이 대기에 노출되고 광범위한 하도 침식 및 풍화작용의 영향을 받았다. 이어지는 B 단계는 MIS-5e 까지 빠른 해수면 상승과정에서 MIS-5 시퀀스의 하부 해침퇴적체가 형성되었고, 다음에 이어지는 MIS-5d부터 MIS-4 저해수면 시기까지의 C 단계에서는 MIS-5 시퀀스의 상부인 해퇴퇴적체가 만들어졌다. 다음의 D 단계는 MIS-4 저해수면 시기부터 MIS-3c 고해수면 시기까지로 하도 침식 및 하도 충전 구조로 이루어진 MIS-3 해침 퇴적체가 형성되었다. 다음의 E 단계에서는 LGM 시기까지 계속적인 해수면 하강이 있었고 외해쪽에서는 천해 기원의 MIS-3 해퇴퇴적체가 만들어진 반면에, 내륙쪽에서는 노출된 환경에서 하도 충전 퇴적체나 범람원 퇴적체가 형성되었다. 마지막 단계인 F 단계는 황해 전체적으로 홀로세 해침이 발생하였고, 이 시기에 외해쪽에서는 대륙붕 사질 퇴적체와 조석사주 퇴적체가 형성되어 고해수면 시기인 현재까지 퇴적이 일어나고 있다.

마지막 최대 빙하기의 온도 및 물수지 변화 수치모델연구 (Numerical Model study of Surface Temperature and Hydrological Budget Change for the Last Glacial Maximum)

  • 미국 해양대기청의 CCM3 기후모델을 이용하여 마지막최대빙하기 (Last Glacial Maximum(LGM)의 기온 및 물. 이용된 수치모델의 수평해상도는 약 75 km로 비교적 상세한 기후 기작들이 표현된다. LGM 실험은 CLIMAP 프로젝트에서 복원된 표층해수가 경계조건으로 이용되었으며 , LGM에 낮았던 대기 이산화탄소농도(200 pm) 이 적용되었고, 대륙빙하를 포함한 LGM 지표지형이 표현되었다 . LGM 경계조건하에서 전구온도는 겨울철 6.1도 여름철 5.6도 그리고 연평균 6도정도 감소한 것으로 시뮬레이션 된다 . 표층 기온의 감소는 14% 감소하고 여름에 17% 그리고 연간 13% 감소한다. 하지만, 미국, 남부유럽, 동아프리카, 남아메리카 등은 겨울에 현재보다 더 습하게 나타나며 , 캐나다 와 중동 지방은 여름철에 습윤하게 시뮬레이션 된다 . 이런 결과들은 호수면 변화기록으로부터 복원한 고기후 프락시 물수지 자료들과도 대체로 잘 일치한다 . 전체적으로 고해상도 기후모델은 지상에서 나타나는 세부적인 특징들을 잘 재현해내고 있다 .

What is Happening in the East Sea (Japan Sea)?: Recent Chemical Observations during CREAMS 93-96

  • CREAMS (Circulation Research of the East Asian Marginal Seas) Expeditions have provided a rare opportunity to carry out precise measurements of salinity, temperature and chemical tracers extensively in all major basins of the East Sea (Japan Sea) in 1993-1996 for the first time in more than 60 years since Uda's investigation (Uda, 1934). Studies revealed unequivocal evidence that the East Sea Proper Water (ESPW), previously known as a single homogeneous water mass, is indeed made of several distinct water masses. CREAMS data further confirmed the earlier observations of Gamo et al. (1986) that properties in Deep Waters in the East Sea have been changing during at least the last 25 years. There is evidence, especially from the analysis of the DO profile, that these changes may result from a major change in the mode of deep water formation: from bottom water formation in the past to intermediate/deep water formation in recent years. The causes for these changes are not clear at the present time, but nay include natural variation and may also reflect recent global changes in regional scale. A moving-boundary box model is presented to describe current observations, predicting the turnover time of the total deep and bottom waters to the cold surface waters to be ${\sim}$80 years in 1996.
