It suggests a closet design for infants in consideration of space utilization, furniture arrangement, and goods storage by integrating a baby's closet and toy chest, which was used for storage of baby's toys and play instrument. For this, it conducted and analyzed data research on the infants' toy chests in the domestic and overseas market and based on such approach, the colors that helped development of infants' cognition and emotion were selected while suggesting familiar animal characters for infants. Without considering separate arrangement of furniture and toy chest within limited space, it allowed space utilization and provided enough storing space. Also, the attached ball casters enabled easy carry of the closet and with this function, it helps infants arrange and store goods by themselves so that making them feel a sense of accomplishment. For effective spatial utilization as well as security of its genuine storage function, the closet and toy chest were combined in this study. Thus, it is believed that development of such multifunctional furniture will suggest the direction of researches on domestic furniture development that are conducted to maximize utilization of residential space for the people living today.

Through this study, I developed a new-styled desk for public reading in library in consideration of the characteristics of the company "KIFURS Co., Ltd." established and branded by a part of the members of the association 'Gyeonggi-Incheon Furniture Industry Cooperative', in the background of growing library-furniture market situation according to the government policy and the related participations of competitive companies. The differentially designed product was herein presented by introducing the function of office furniture and related material, by giving the existing product some improvements on the basis of the domestic and international data searching. The characteristic of the developed product is that the basic structure of the desk for public reading is easy to assemble & disassemble and also variable to be extended & modified. This basic structure is available to be mass production and to be pricewise through using aluminum. Furthermore it can be used as other library-furniture and office furniture, too. Also the luxury image was pursued by modern shape and different material, unlike the existing library-furniture.

The 4th industrial revolution will have brought smart furniture integrated with IT technology and provide a convenient and comfortable environment for our lives. Therefore, this study analyzed the design characteristics of fusion integrated furniture based on changes of the times. In 20th centuries, characteristic of fusion design was based on architectural structure, new material and function. In 21st centuries, smart home furniture and network system was developed based on IT technology. In addition, due to the increase of single-person households and various consumer purchasing patterns, combined functions for small spaces and multi-function furniture was also developed. In conclusion, the trends of convergence design furniture from 20 to 21st century showed that furniture industry has a significant potential for high-tech technology. This study may be a useful information in developing convergence design furniture industry.

This study is creating furniture design strategies that can upgrade the library function. Today, everyday life is in very strong relationship with the library. Handles are very essential element to satisfy function of furniture except for furniture without doors. Moreover, handles of furniture tend to have not only functions for opening and shutting but also decorations for furniture. Among various hardware for furniture, handles are the one who influence furniture's design most. Yet, cases of damages occur due to the fact that there are many copying. Handles have short lives, so that it is economically quiet burden to develop new products in Korea. Therefore, this study aims to inspire necessity of investment for handles and other hardware's development by classifying types of handles, systemizing basic knowledge of design for furniture handles, and realizing the importance of handles within domestic demand.

The study aimed at investigating the terms for each type of the current household furniture and at analyzing a standard based on those terms researched for the furniture, not including kitchen and child furniture. The study was conducted in sales and R&D division of major furniture brands such as Jang-In Gagu, Borneo, and Livart by surveying their staffs, and then, the investigated names were classified according to similar criteria and it was finally analyzed by the definite standard of the names made. In the results, the following 5 standards largely play roles for the naming. First, name according to requirements, second, construction of door, third, materials, fourth, shapes, and lastly, function. Except for the terms of "Sobari" expressed only as Japanese and "living room cabinet of Extension-type" using Korean and English along, most of the names show furniture in detail, and the names from Hangeul, Korean alphabet and from the English have recently and drastically increased with the lifestyle change influenced from Western world.

This study explored the philosophical Modernity with the Enlightenment in relation to cultural and aesthetic modernism rooted in Modern furniture, which directly reflected modern culture and society with rationality, science, individualism, progressive, universal truths, etc, using qualitative analysis about the related literature as the principal methodology. A fundamental philosophy of the modern furniture influenced by Industrial Revolution is that the dictates of function and industrial technology must be decided by form. The theory and practice of the International Style in modern furniture came from the modern aesthetics in the philosophy of Modernity. As a result, as influenced through the Enlightenment project and the relationship of individual to society in relation to cultural and aesthetic modernism, and the three modern movements with furniture, which are Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco, represented the beginning style of modern furniture design toward functionalism or minimalism.

Philippe Starck is a famous french designer known for his creative works in all aspects of life from architectural space to product design. Especially, in regard to furniture, he designed more than 250 works with various design characteristics. This study therefore aims to examinate the characteristics of furniture designed by Philippe Starck through assessment of his design background and philosophy, evaluation of fifty or so of his works in terms of their function, form, material, and emotions, and lastly through a chronological analysis. As a result from this study, following various results are drawn as design characteristic through forty six representative cases: 1) possibility of fabrication and transformation 2) multi-function or optional function for user 3) pursuit of simplicity using the characteristic of singular material or mono block and immateriality 4) emotional approach in design 5) non-design method such as use of archetype or historical form.

For opening and shutting function, door has some hardware such as hinges and the locks. The folding mechanism of hinges represent mobility, and the lock means stability. The opening and shutting door-the mobility-could be interpreted the movement from flat state to three-dimensional structure. The folding mechanism also would be understood variable feature to the space. This study focus on the Folding Furniture which adapted the good point of hinges to make efficient use of the space. The folding furniture presented in this study has not only artistic meaning which expand and apply structural function of hinges, but also flexible reanalysis on the environment and the space which change with social, economic and cultural trend.
