TiO2를 이용한 저농도 유기오염물질 제거에 관한 연구 (A Study on Low Concentrations of Organic Pollutants Removal using TiO2)

  • Microbiological treatment, chlorination, and ozonation are usually used for water treatment. However, there is weakness that these methods can't decompose and eliminate recalcitrant organic pollutants perfectly. It is possible to eliminate recalcitrant organic pollutants when photocatalysis of $TiO_2$ is used. In this study, the removal efficiencies of organic pollutants by using photocatalyst of $TiO_2$ in the slightly polluted golf club water hazard and a river were investigated. The amount of $TiO_2$ was divided into three categories of 1 g/L, 2 g/L and 4 g/L in order to investigate the adequate amount of $TiO_2$ and the removal efficiency. UV light was used as a light source for the reaction of photocatalyst. As a conclusion in this study, the efficiency of turbidity removal was increased in proportion to the amount of $TiO_2$ until 4 hours. After then the turbidity was gradually decreased. Finally, the optimum concentration of $TiO_2$ was 4 g/L. The efficiency of COD removal was increased in proportion to the amount of $TiO_2$ regardless of time.

화장품 폐수처리시설의 효율제고를 위한 처리비 영향인자에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Operation of Cosmetic Wastewater Treatment Facility)

  • 폐수 처리장 관리자들로 하여금 경제적으로 효과적인 폐수처리를 위하여 화장품 제조시설을 중심으로 폐수처리공정을 파악한 후 폐수처리 및 관리에 필요한 운전인자 중 폐수 처리비 영향인자 분석을 시행하였다. 폐수처리는 대부분 활성 슬러지법을 이용하여 각업체에 적합하게 설치하여 사용하고 있으며, 폐수처리장의 일평균처리량/설계량이 0.29∼0.56으로 일평균 처리량에 비해 폐수처리장의 설계량이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 오염물질 제거율이 폐수처리비에 큰 영향을 미치고 있으며, 이를 조절하기 위한 폐수처리 운전인자는 MLSS이다. 또한, 폐수처리비를 줄이기 위한 관리 항목은 약품비와 Sludge량이며, 이를 줄이기 위해서는 SV3O의 철저한 관리가 필요하다.

Acclimation of magnetic activated sludge with 1,4-dioxane and analysis of bacterial flora in the sludge

  • Isolation of pollutant-degrading bacteria is important in bioaugmentation, one of the methods for biological degradation of environmental contaminants. We focused on the magnetic activated sludge (MAS) process as a culture method that efficiently concentrates degrading bacteria, and cultured activated sludge with 1,4-dioxane as a model pollutant. After 860 days of operation, MLVSS, which indicates the amount of sludge, increased from 390 mg/L to 10,000 mg/L, and the removal rate of organic matter including 1,4-dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, and glucose in the artificial wastewater reached up to 97%. Based on these results, the MAS process was successfully used to acclimate activated sludge with 1,4-dioxane. Bacterial flora analysis in the MAS showed that bacteria of the genus Pseudonocardia, already reported as 1,4-dioxane degrading bacteria, play an important role in the degradation of this pollutant. The MAS process is a suitable culture method for acclimation of environmental pollutants, and the findings indicate that it can be used as an enrichment unit for pollutant-degrading bacteria.

Pollutant Runoff Reduction Efficiency of Surface Cover, Vegetative Filter Strip and Vegetated Ridge for Korean Upland Fields: A Review

  • BACKGROUND: In this review paper, the effects of surface cover (SCV), vegetative filter strip (VFS), and vegetated ridge (VRD) on the pollutant runoff from steep-sloping uplands were analyzed to compare the pollutant reduction efficiency in runoff ($PRE_{runoff}$) of the practices and to investigate how slope and rainfall parameters affect the $PRE_{runoff}$. METHODS AND RESULTS: The $PRE_{runoff}$ of SCV, VFS, and VRD for pollutants including suspended solids and biological oxygen demand was compared by analysis of variance. The effect of slope and rainfall parameters on the $PRE_{runoff}$ was explored by either mean comparison or regression analysis. It was found that the $PRE_{runoff}$ differs with the practices due to different pollutant reduction mechanisms of the practices. Though the $PRE_{runoff}$ was likely to be affected by site condition such as slope and rainfall (amount and intensity), more comprehensive understanding was not possible due to the limited data set. CONCLUSION: The $PRE_{runoff}$ of SCV, VFS, and VRD differed due to the distinctive mechanisms of pollutant removal of the practices. It is necessary to accumulate experimental data across a variety of gradient of slope and rainfall for comprehensive understanding of the effects of the practices on pollutant runoff from steep-sloping uplands.

Feasibility Study of Constructed Wetland System for Sewage Treatment in Rural Area

  • Field experiment was performed from August 1996 to December 1999 to examine the feasibility of constructed wetland system for sewage treatment in rural areas. A pilot system was installed in Konkuk University and the effluent of septic tank for school building was used as an influent to the wetland treatment basin. The system was composed of sand and reed, and operated continuously including winter time. Average removal rate of about 70% was observed for BOD, COD, and SS, about 50% for T-P, and about 25% for T-N. The reason for poor T-N removal might be due to high loading rate and short retention time. The system demonstrated satisfactory effluent concentration and stable performance in growing season. And it also worked adequately in wintertime even below $10^{\circ}C$ without freezing, and removal was still significant. The amount removed in BOD, COD, and SS was almost the same as in the growing season, and the amount removed in nutrients was about half of the one in growing season. Overall performance of the experimental system was compared with existing data base (NADB, 1994), and it was within the range of general system performance. As study period increased, removal rates for BOD, COD, SS, and T-P were consistently maintained and even enhanced, but removal rate for T-N decreased slightly. Wetland system was thought to be a feasible alternative for sewage treatment in rural area considering its low cost and low maintenance requirement. However, the effluent of the experimental wetland system often exceeded current effluent water quality standards, therefore, further treatment could be required if the effluent should be discharged to public waters. Wetland system of interest locates in rural area and is a part of rural ecosystem, therefore, ultimate disposal of reclaimed sewage for agricultural purpose or subsequent land treatment might be available and further research in this matter is recommended.

Preparation and Characterization of Electrospun TiO2-Activated Carbon Complex Fiber as Photocatalyst

  • In this study, $TiO_2$-Activated carbon (AC) complex fibers were prepared by electrospinning for the synergetic effect of adsorption and degradation of organic pollutant. The average diameter of these fibers increased with increasing the amount of AC added, except for 1AC-TOF (AC$/TiO_2$ =1/40 mass ratio). After calcinations at $500^{\circ}C$, long as-spun fibers were broken and their average diameter was slightly decreased. The resultant fibers after calcination had rough surface and sphere shapes like a peanut. From XRD results, it was confirmed that as-spun fibers were changed to anatase $Ti_O2$ fiber after calcinations at $500^{\circ}C$. The prepared $TiO_2$-AC complex fibers could remove procian blue dyes by solar light irradiation with high removal property of 94~99%. The PB dye was rapidly removed by adsorption during the initial 5 minutes. But after 5 minutes, dye removal was occurred by photodegradation. In this study, the most efficient AC/$TiO_2$ ratio of $TiO_2$-AC complex fibers was 5/40, showing the synergetic effect of adsorption and photodegradation. It is expected that the $TiO_2$-AC complex fibers can be used to remove of organic pollutants in water system.

침강에 의한 도시 강우 유출수 오염물질 저감 특성 분석 (Reduction of Pollutant Concentrations in Urban Stormwater Runoff by Settling)

  • 대전의 관평천에 설치된 1.8 m 높이의 침강 실험장치를 이용하여 총 4회에 걸쳐 강우 유출수를 채취하여 오염물질제거 효율 및 특성을 측정하였다. 오염물질 농도는 초기 4시간 동안 급격하게 감소하였으며 약 24시간 후 일정한 수준을 나타내는 경향을 보였다. 침전 실험 장치 내에서는 높이 별 농도가 크게 다르지 않은 것으로 관찰되었으며 이는 침전장치 내에서 대부분의 고형물질은 서로 방해하지 않고 독립적으로 침전하기 때문인 것으로 분석된다. 강우 유출수를 대상으로 분석한 입도는 $10{\sim}100{\mu}m$의 범위로 나타났다. 강우 유출수내에서 TP의 경우 입자성 물질이 평균 52.4%, TN의 경우 23.5%의 비율로 나타났으며 TN의 경우 침강에 의해 효율적으로 제거되기 어렵다는 것을 확인하여 주고 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 초기 강우 유출수에 포함되어 있는 TSS와 TP와 같은 오염물질이 단순한 침강에 의해 효과적으로의 제거될 수 있다는 것을 나타내고 있으며 하천수질을 보호하는데 적극적으로 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.

  • Flue gas control systems for small-scale combustors must be designed to provide highly effective removal of three criteria pollutants (S $O_{2}$, N $O_{x}$ and particulate matter), and must be safe, reliable and small. These requirements make dry, regenerative clean-up process particularly attractive and this paper describes a new concept for integrated pollutant control : a filter comprised of layered, gas permeable membranes that act as an S $O_{2}$ sorbant, a N $O_{x}$ reduction catalyst and a particulate filter. A mixed metal oxide sorbent, Cu-Ce was used as a sorbent/catalyst and the activity was compared with Cu-7Al. The S $O_{2}$ removal eficiency of Cu-Ce was increased with temperature increase up to 500$^{\circ}$C and the catalytic activity for NO was higher than that of Cu-7Al. By the sulfation of Cu-Ce, the reduction activity was increased at the temperature higher than 350$^{\circ}$C. The regeneration of Cu-Ce was very fast and some amount of elemental sulfar was found.

실내오염물질 제거용 광촉매의 제조조건에 따른 반응활성 연구 (Production Conditions of the Photo-catalyst for Removing Indoor Pollutants)

  • 본 연구에서는 UV 광을 이용하여 CO, C2H5OH 및 H2S에 해당하는 오염물질을 제어하기 위한 광촉매 연구를 수행하였다. 제조된 촉매들이 동일한 체적 및 표면적의 경우에는 촉매 구조 내부까지 UV 광이 조사될 수 있는 구조에서 우수한 반응활성을 보였다. 하지만 이러한 광촉매 TiO2의 CO에 대한 반응활성은 매우 저조하였으며, 이는 귀금속 계열의 Pt를 첨가하여 환원공정을 수행함으로써 해결할 수 있다. 특히 이러한 Pt/TiO2 광촉매는 환원공정을 통하여 표면 Pt0의 종의 생성 및 증가시킬 수 있으며, 이를 통해 CO의 반응활성이 우수해 짐을 확인하였다.

  • In this study, effluent water was produced through Submerged Membrane Bio-Reactor(SMBR) process, which is a simple system and decomposes organic matter contained in wastewater with biological treatment process and performs solid-liquid separation, Especially, ozone oxidation treatment process is applied to effluent water containing fluorescent whitening agent, which is a trace pollutant which is not removed by biological treatment, and influences the quality of reused water. The concentration of $COD_{Cr}$ in the SMBR was $449.3mg/{\ell}-COD_{Cr}$, and the concentration of permeate water was $100.3mg/{\ell}-COD_{Cr}$. The removal efficiency was about 70.1%. The amount of ozone required for the removal of the fluorescent whitening agent in the permeated water in SMBR was $6.67g-O_3/min$, and the amount of ozone required to remove $COD_{Mn}$ relative to the permeate water was calculated to remove $0.997mg-COD_{Mn}$ for 1mg of $O_3$.
