  • The purpose of study was to survey the indoor noise of apartment houses, residents, attitudes and their adaptation behavior in order to offer the information helpful to apartment designers and residents, in their housing policy. Documentary research and questionnaire survey methods were used in this research. The sample was taken from 187 housewives living in apartments in Seoul. Data were analyzed with the SPSS program. The results were as follow : 1. It was found that apartment residents pointed out washing machine noise inside the home, piano and other musical instruments noise outside the home. 2. Piano and other musical instrument noise were heard at 3 to 6 pp.m. when residents heard the noise, and water supply and drainage noise in bathrooms were found most noisy. 3. Apartment residents were discontent with noise outside the home, and they displayed positive adaptation behavior at a reduced noise level. 4. Attitudes arising from indoor noise in apartment houses and human noise, water supply and drainage noise, doorway opening and closing noise were found to be significant in sampled apartment groups. 5. The youngest child's age was a significant variable on the residents' attitudes and adaptation behavior of indoor noise in apartment houses. 6. Between the resident' attitudes and adaptation behavior involving indoor noise in apartment houses. 6. Between the resident' attitueds and adaptation behavior involving indoor noise apartment houses, the more they became discontented, the more quickly they adapted in a postive manner.

  • The present study revealed; that (1) The students majoring in a piano course were the preference type of the performance dress - best line was designed of upper form chest. It was 1.5cm shorter than armhole line, the princess line was preferred Top one piece without sleeves which was designed with slim by bottom line through west dart form best line. The expression method was showing embroidery and bidding, colors were in order to white, ivory, black and blue style. The material was in order to silk with glorious shinning, silk satin and race style. (2) The students majoring in a vocal music were the preference type of the performance dress - the princess line was designed shorter, the west line of back and forth was preferred the one piece of bulk style divided with three partitions. Neck line was 5cm shorter than the middle of back, 9cm shorter than the side neck position, 9cm shorter than the middle of forth, sweet heart neck line with circular sleeve designed 7cm shorter than the side neck position. Colors were in order to ivory, red and yellow style. The material was in order to silk with glorious shinning silk satin and race style.

  • It is well-known that analogizing a dynamic system to an equivalent circuit is a powerful tool on the analysis of the system. In this paper, an equivalent circuit of the piano has been constructed by the structural and acoustical analysis to visualize the sounding mechanism. Utilizing the mechanical reactance curve of the soundboard, a new method of reducing che inharmonicity in low frequency range has been built. With this method, by only choosing the proper excitation point on the soundboard, it will be possible to minimize the inharmonicity and thus to obtain mellow bass tone. It is shown that the missing fundamental in the lowest scale range results predominatly from the fact that the radiation impedance in such low frequencies is nearly pure reactive.

  • A guitar, a piano, and a violin are popular musical instruments for User Created Contents(UCC). However the patterns of audio signal generated by a guitar and a piano are too similar to differentiate. The difference between two musical instruments can be found by analyzing the frequency variation per each band near signal peaks. The distribution of probability on the existence of signal peaks based on Cumulative Histogram were applied to musical instrument recognition. Experiments with statistical models of the frequency variation per each band near signal peaks showed the 14% improvement of musical instrument recognition.

  • In this paper we describe a development of a multi user game using 3D graphics and multicasting. First, we represent a virtual reality world by 3D graphics technology. Next, we use computer communication technology for the purpose of interaction among multi users. As a result, multi users share 3D graphics objects and play games. The goal of this paper is a development of a system that enables multi users to play games sharing a virtual world represented by 3D graphics. We use the OpenInventor library and C++ language for 3D graphics scene representation, and IP multicasting protocols for computer communication. The system allows to use Polhemus Fastrak 3D input device that recognizes the 3D position and 3D orientation. As an example we present a game that demonstrates the effect of piano concert by multi piano players who are distributed in a computer network.

  • Most of music-transcription systems that have been commercialized operate based on audio information. However, these conventional systems have disadvantages of environmental dependency, equipment dependency, and time latency. This paper studied a vision-based music-transcription system that utilizes video information rather than audio information, which is a traditional method of music-transcription programs. Computer vision technology is widely used as a field for analyzing and applying information from equipment such as cameras. In this paper, we created a program to generate MIDI file which is electronic music notes by using smart-phone cameras to record the play of piano.

  • The 1900s in New Orleans, the harbor city, was indeed an era of confusion because there were various ethnic groups and races. Songs that had been sung by slaves taken from Africa, Black spiritual music, blues, British folk songs, French folk music, ballet music, Spanish dance music, and the march of military bands were mixed with Rag Time to achieve diversity. This developed the beginning of jazz. While swing jazz was most popular and loved by the public during the 20th century, the bebop preferred the small scale organization of musical instruments and developed as a form of jazz featuring the impromptu musical performances. Later, cool jazz, a new style involving the fast and complicated code progress, emerged with free jazz, which features the fundamental rupture from the tradition of the jazz. Miles Davis, who introduced the rock beat in jazz, started fusion jazz. Although jazz has been named differently depending on the era, the main attraction of jazz lies on improvisation. In other words, despite a small changes in code progress and rhythm, the most important thing the player considers is improvisation. Some famous players who lived in the same era followed the whole atmosphere but each had their own style. So, even when they did play the same song, they revealed their style in solo parts despite the same head.

  • Nowadays, the trend of early childhood education has focused on finding educational activities to enhance quality of learning with integrative, learner-centered experience by combining each subject and domain. Pre-service early childhood teacher's music drama activity is a sort of integrated education including literature, instrumental music, play, art and movement that are included in the culture and art for preschoolers to help them understand role and value of the art and directly influence personality and creativity and motive to arouse interest in various learning directly. It's expected to see that development of creative teaching plan for the music drama using piano ensemble could support basic research in integrated educational activity in the teacher training course and also, activate the music drama activity. Research findings and suggestion are as follows. First, the music drama activities are systematically and step-by-step implemented according to the audience according to the cooperative learning and creative plans of pre-service early childhood teachers. Second, if understanding characteristics of casts in the music drama and assigning their roles efficiently, it enhances approach of pre-service early childhood teacher music drama activity and activate it. Third, making music in music drama activities can be composed and arranged to suit the musical literacy and level of pre-service early childhood teacher. Fourth, pre-service early childhood teachers could have integrated experience and evaluation efficiently in the short term to use as reference for the teaching plan and data for the music drama.

  • An essential aspect of music is structure. Beran (2004) introduced a method of comparing piano plays via circular statistics based on the fact that there is circular structure in music. We expand the application of this method to a pair of two pop songs and discuss the possibility of applying it to detecting musical plagiarism. Circular statistics provides an objective view point comparing the musical works.
