  • Speaker verification can be classified in two categories, text-dependent speaker verification and text-independent speaker verification. In this paper, we discuss text-dependent speaker verification. Text-dependent speaker verification system determines whether the sound characteristics of the speaker are equal to those of the specific person or not. In this paper we obtain the speaker data using a sound card in various noisy conditions, apply a new Hidden LMS (Least Mean Square) adaptive algorithm to it, and extract LPC (Linear Predictive Coding)-cepstrum coefficients as feature vectors. Finally, we use a competitive learning neural network for speaker verification. The proposed hidden LMS adaptive filter using a neural network reduces noise and enhances features in various noisy conditions. We construct a separate neural network for each speaker, which makes it unnecessary to train the whole network for a new added speaker and makes the system expansion easy. We experimentally prove that the proposed method improves the speaker verification performance.

  • In text-dependent speaker verification system, which text choice for speaker to utter is very important factor for performance improvement. In this paper, building a consonant mixture system using classification method of korean phonetic value is proposed. When it is applied to the web-based speaker verification system, it can cope with abrupt change of speaker's voice information and have the optimal performance in speaker verification system.

  • In this paper, we review the conventional speaker verification algorithm and present the text-dependent speaker verification system for application over telephone lines and its result of experiments. We apply blind-segmentation algorithm which segments speech into sub-word unit without linguistic information to the speaker verification system for training speaker model effectively with limited enrollment data. And the World-mode] that is created from PBW DB for score normalization is used. The experiments are presented in implemented system using database, which were constructed to simulate field test, and are shown 3.3% EER.

  • We propose a new method of generating client models for HMM based text-dependent speaker verification system with only a small amount of training data. To make a client model, statistical methods such as segmental K-means algorithm are widely used, but they do not guarantee the quality or reliability of a model when only limited data are avaliable. In this paper, we propose a blind speech segmentation based on level building DTW algorithm as an alternative method to make a client model with limited data. In addition, considering the fact that voiced sounds have much more speaker-specific information than unvoiced sounds and energy of the former is higher than that of the latter, we also propose a new score evaluation method using the observation probability raised to the power of weighting factor estimated from the normalized log energy. Our experiment shows that the proposed methods are superior to conventional HMM based speaker verification system.

  • In this paper, the web-based speaker verification system is designed. To decide the speaker recognition algorithm applied to the web-based speaker verification system, the recognition performance and special features of the text-dependent speaker recognition algorithms(DTW, DHMM, SCHMM) are compared through the computer simulation. Using the results of computer simulation, select DHMM as speaker recognition algorithm at web-based speaker verification system because DHMM has the proper recognition performance and initial training utterance number. And by the three-tier method using the ActiveX, DCOM techniques web-based speaker verification system is designed to be operated in the distributed processing environment.

  • In this paper, we propose the new method that separate the existing common VQ code book into two parts, one is the common VQ code book which is the half of existing common VQ code book, another is the personal speaker VQ code book which accommodate the personal speaker characteristic, variation to improve the performance of the text-dependent speaker verification system using discrete HMM. We apply the propose method m this paper to the text-dependent speaker verification system using discrete HMM and have the improvement performance of about 0.24% compared to existing method

  • There is a growing interest in speaker verification, which verifies someone by his/her voices. This paper explains the traditional text-dependent speaker verification algorithms, DTW and HMM. This paper also introduces SVM and how this can be applied to speaker verification system. Experiments were conducted with Korean database using these algorithms. The results of experiments indicated SVM is superior to other algorithms. The EER of SVM is only 0.5% while that of HMM is 5.4%.

  • This paper deals with text-prompt speaker recognition based on dynamic time warping (DTW). The Genetic Algorithm was applied to the creation of reference patterns for suitable reflection of the speaker characteristics, one of the most important determinants in the fields of speaker recognition. In order to overcome the weakness of text-dependent and text-independent speaker recognition, the text-prompt type was suggested. Performed speaker identification and verification in close and open set respectively, hence the Genetic algorithm-based reference patterns had been proven to have better performance in both recognition rate and speed than that of conventional reference patterns.

  • In this paper we propose modified LBG algorithm to minimize quantization errors. When we apply conventional LBG algorithm for speaker verification system, problems that result from small amount of training data can be generated. That is, quantization error comes from fixed-sized codebook without any consideration for speaker characteristics and splitting vector in the wrong direction worsen performance of speaker verification system. So, we propose modified clustering method that has variable sized codebook according to speaker characteristics and makes right splitting direction by finding the farthest member away from mean and then find another member from the member. Simulation results show effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a delta energy method based on Parameter Filtering(PF), which is a speech segmentation algorithm for text dependent speaker verification system over telephone line. Our parametric filter bank adopts a variable bandwidth along with a fixed center frequency. Comparing with other methods, the proposed method turns out very robust to channel noise and background noise. Using this method, we segment an utterance into consecutive subword units, and make models using each subword nit. In terms of EER, the speaker verification system based on whole word model represents 6.1%, whereas the speaker verification system based on subword model represents 4.0%, improving about 2% in EER.
