The banana insect pest species and their damages were surveyed from 9 vinyl hoses of Cheju Island on August in 18. A total of 5 pest species wre found ; banana root weevil (BRW) Cosmopolites sordidus Germar (Curculionidae) a wireworm Melonotus sp. (Elateridae), a spider mite teranychid sp. (Tetranychidae), mulberry mealybud Pseudococcus comstocki (Kuwana)(Pseudococcidae), and common cutworm Spodoptera litura (Fabricius)(Noctuidae). Among them, the BRW which attacked the rhizome of banana plant was newly recorded from Korea. It is assumed that the weevil would be introduced from Japan, Philippine or SriLan-Ka wiht the banana seedlings imported during early 1980's.
These experiments were conducted in the laboratory conditions to determine the prey consumption of a predaciousphytoseiid mite, Amblyseius womersleyi Schicha, and its ability to regulate the population of tea redspider mite, Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida. The functional response curve of the adult A. womersleyi to thedensity of eggs, larvae, and nymphs of T. kanzawai indicated Holling's Type 11: the consumption of prey bythe adult A. womersleyi increased with the prey density but the consumption rate decreased. The critical initialratio to suppress the prey population by the predator seemed to be 32:l @rey:predator) at 25"C, and 16:l at20$^{\circ}$C on kidney bean plant. The predator could not regulate any initial ratio of the prey population at 15$^{\circ}$C.^{\circ}$C.
Tea field-collected populations of the tea red spider mite (Tetranychus kazawai Kishida) from five different locations in the southern region of Korea were assessed for resistance to seven acaricides using leaf spray method. There were considerable differences in susceptibility depending on the tested acaricides and the location from which the population was collected. The populations showing high resistance ratio of more than 20 with respect to certain acaricide were as follows: the Sungjun and Cheju populations to azocyclotin, tebufenpyrad, fenpyroximate, pyridaben, propargite, and fenpropathrin; the Haenam population to propargite and fenpyroximate; the Bosung population to propargite; the Youngam population to pyridaben. Therefore, the use of other alternative acaricides against the Sungjun and Cheju populations is needed. However, careful selection of the appropriate acaricide against the Haenam, Bosung and Youngam populations of the tea red spider mite might be maintained in effective control.
The effect of density suppression of Amblyseius fallacis (Garman) against Panonychus citri (McGregor) on citrus tree introduced with some different ratio was investigated. When it was introduced with over 16:1 (Panonychus citri: A. fallacis) ratio, Panonychus citri was suppressed very effectively. And in case of introduced once or two times with 20: 1 ratio when the density of Panonychus citri was reached 0.5 and 1.0 per leaf, the density of A. fallacis was formed highly, but the suppression effect against Panonychus citri was not effective. Also, the density changes of P. citri and A. fallacis on the citrus tree released with 10: 1 ratio (P. citri: A. fallacis) when the density of P. citri was reached about 0.1 per leaf in plastic film house were investigated. In case of released twice at the interval of 10 days, the density of A. fallacis was high and P. citri was suppressed so effectively over two month. On the inside of canopy of the citrus tree planted in plastic film house, the air temperature was much lower than on the outside of canopy, while relative humidity was much higher.
These studies were carried out to investigate fumigant, contact toxicity and repellency effects of 34 terpenes against acaricide susceptible the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae. In addition, the efficacy was also tested against two acaricide-resistant strains. Two terpenes, isosafrole and safrole showed fumigant toxicity of 98.4%, at 10${\mu}\ell$/1 (air) concentration. LD$\_$50/ values of these two terpenes were 2.6${\mu}\ell$/1 and 4.3${\mu}\ell$l/1, respectively. Most terpenes showed low or no contact toxicity, except isosafrole showing 60.2% mortality against eggs. Hexanoic acid and limonene showed repellency effects of 79.1%, 87.8%, respectively, to the susceptible strain at concentration of 1,000 ppm in the lab conditions. Hexanoic acid (1,000 ppm) showed repellency effected of 77.8% and 83.3% to fenpropathrin and pyridaben resistant strains, respectively. However, limonene showed no repellency to the two resistant strains.
Mean densities of two-spotted spider mite (TSM), Tetranichus urticae Koch adults from January to April in 2014 to investigate the occurrence and dispersion pattern of T. urticae on purpose of developing a monitoring method in the strawberry PVC house. Difference of density of T. urticae adult on middle and both side of leaf wasn't significantly. Density of T. urticae in investigation at different furrows and investigating points was the highest at the right and left sides of a furrow in strawberry PVC house. In results of comparing the dispersion incides of Taylor's power law (TPL) with Iwao's patchiness regression (IPR), TPL described better mean-relationship for the dispersion indieces compared to IPR. Slopes and intercepts of TPL from leaf samples did not differ among surveyed regions. Also, Distribution of T. urticae in a strawberry PVC house was the gravitation of the distribution because b and ${\beta}$ values of TPL and IPR was bigger than 1.
Dispersion pattern of the citrus red mite (CRM), Panonychus citri (McGregor) was determined to develop a monitoring method in the satsuma mandarin fields, Citrus unshiu L., in Jeju-do, during 1999 and 2000. CRM population was sampled by collecting leaves. Taylor's power law provided better description of mean-variance relationship for the dispersion indices compared to Iwao's patchiness regression. Slopes and intercepts of Taylor's power law from leaf samples did not differ among surveyed groves. Fixed-precision levels (D) of a sequential sampling plan were developed using Taylor's power law parameters generated from all motile stages of CRM in leaf sample. This sampling plan for leaf sample estimate was tested with resampling validation for sampling plan using 4 independent data sets. Resampling simulation analysis demonstrated that actual fixed-precision level values were better than desired D values of 0.20, 0.25 and 0.30. Required numbers for tree sampling at the density of more than 7 mites per tree were fewer than 18.

Stability of resistance of the two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) to dicofol was investigated. Resistance level (23.0-fold) of adult females to dicofol was kept up to 1 year without selection by dicofol, but was decreased to 15.8-, 10.7-fold after 2 and 3 years, respectively. Susceptibility of adult females obtained from reciprocal crosses $(R_{female}\timesS_{male},R_{male}\times S_{female})$ of the R and S stains to dicofol was declined by the success of generation.

Eight field-collected populations of the two-spotted spider mites, Tetranychus urticae (Koch) from apple orchards of different geographical areas were tested for resistance to seven acaricides by leaf disk method in comparison with a susceptible strain. Marked regional variations of susceptibility were observed. Only low to moderate resistance to azocyclotin, fenpropathrin, propargite, and abamectin was obtained. However, high resistance to dicofol, fenpyroxymate, and pyridaen by eight field-collected populations was produced. Resistance to dicofol and fenpyroxymate was widespread. All of the strains tested were susceptible to one or more o the acaricides used. These results indicate that careful selection of the chemical used against any population of the two-spotted spider mite might result in satisfactory control.
Contribution of Wolbachia infection to fitness of a species (developmental time, adult life span, fecundity and ovipositional period) was measured in the susceptible and dicofol-resistant strains of two spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch, on miniature roses. Based on ftsZPCR assay, Wolbachia infection was confirmed only in the susceptible strain. The susceptible strain had significantly higher fecundity (eggs/female) and shorter developmental times than the resistant strain. Longer adult life span and ovipositional period were observed in the susceptible strain. Fitness differences were appeared to influence dicofol resistance development. Similar measurements were performed with progeny from two reciprocal $F_1$crosses. Similar to other examples of cytoplasmic incompatibility induced by Wolbachia, subsequent cross between uninfected female and infected male spider mites were different from the other combination: a high egg mortality and a male-biased sex ratio. When the intrinsic rate of natural increase was calculated, the cross between uninfected female and infected male spider mites had a significantly lower rate($0.09\pm$0.01) than did the other combination ($0.20\pm$0.01). These results suggest that the dynamic and evolution of the fitness are closely associated with dicofol resistance and Wolbachia infection in the two spotted spider mites.
