  • The containment local leakage rate testing in nuclear power plants is performed in accordance with ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 in Korea. Two methods, the make-up flow rate and the pressure decay, are used for local leakage rate testing. Though ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 does not define clearly the minimum test duration for the make-up flow rate method, it requires obtaining the data after reaching the stable condition. Thus the prerequisite stable condition for data acquisition and the testing time is differently applied to each NPPs. Therefore, this study presents a standardized test procedure for data stabilization and testing time through experiments to improve the test reliability.

  • This study was carried out to measure the flaw height of welds in consideration of the effective probe angle in ultrasonic oblique detection. Specimens with inserted artificial flaws were made and flaw heights were estimated from detecting these specimens. Two different methods were applied to estimate flaw heights. From the result of the experiment, flaw height could be measured within the accuracy of 15% percent error and the difference between the probe distance method and beam path method is about 5% relatively small. It is considered that the results obtained this experimental study could be helpful informal ions for measuring flaw height.

  • Binomial group testing or composite sampling is often used to estimate the proportion, p, of positive(infects, defectives) in a population when that proportion is known to be small; the potential benefits of group testing over one-at-a-time testing are well documented. The literature has focused on maximum likelihood estimation. We provide two Bayes estimators and compare them with the MLE. The first of our Bayes estimators uses an uninformative Uniform (0, 1) prior on p; the properties of this estimator are poor. Our second Bayes estimator uses a much more informative prior that recognizes and takes into account key aspects of the group testing context. This estimator compares very favorably with the MSE, having substantially lower mean squared errors in all of the wide range of cases we considered. The priors uses a Beta distribution, Beta ($\alpha$, $\beta$), and some advice is provided for choosing the parameter a and $\beta$ for that distribution.

  • Asphalt pavement waste can be recycled by crushing and heating methods with additional virgin materials and additives. In this study, a new additive using Sasol wax and Polyolefin elastomer was used for improving the quality of the Superior recycled asphalt pavement(SRP). Additive was added into the recycled mixture by 1.5% and 3% of binder content in order to have PG 70-22 and PG 76-22. Both mixtures were tested by Marshall apparatus, indirect strength testing methods, toughness testing methods, moisture susceptibility testing methods and wheel tracking testing methods. Test results met the standards of KS F 2349 and GR F 4005. Through research, it was found that these special recycled mixtures could be applied for the surface and base course of heavy traffic roads or equivalents. About 13,000 tons of the recycled mixture has been applied on Seoul Olympic road to provide new road to Hangang park for Seoul citizens.

  • Socket weldment used to change the flow direction of fluid nay have flaws such as lack of fusion and cracks. Liquid penetrant testing or Radiography testing have been applied as NDT methods for flaw detection of the socket weldment. But it is difficult to detect the flaw inside of the socket weldment with these methods. In order to inspect the flaws inside the socket weldment, a ultrasonic testing method is established and a ultrasonic transducer and automated ultrasonic testing system are developed for the inspection. The automated ultrasonic testing system is based on the portable personal computer and operated by the program based Windows 98 or 2000. The system has a pulser/receiver, 100MHz high speed A/D board, and basic functions of ultrasonic flaw detector using the program. For the automated testing, motion controller board of ISA interface type is developed to control the 4-axis scanner and a real time iC-scan image of the automated testing is displayed on the monitor. A flaws with the size of less than 1mm in depth are evaluated smaller than its actual site in the testing, but the flaws larger than 1mm appear larger than its actual size on the contrary. This tendency is shown to be increasing as the flaw size increases. h reliable and objective testing results are obtained with the developed system, so that it is expected that it can contribute to safety management and detection of repair position of pipe lines of nuclear power plants and chemical plants.

  • Absolute electron-impact cross sections for molecular targets including their radicals are important in developing plasma reactors and testing various plasma processing gases. However, low-energy electron collision data for these gases are sparse and only the limited cross section data are available. In this presentation, the methods and the status of measurements of, mainly, absolute elastic cross sections for electron-polyatomic molecule collisions will be discussed with recent results from Chungnam National University. Elastic cross sections are essential for the absolute scale conversion of inelastic cross sections, as well as for testing computational methods.

  • Finishing materials are very important to restrain fire spread from a compartment to another in a fire situation. Therefore, the evaluation of combustible properties for the combustible material is essential to apply finishing materials into a generic buillding or s special occupancy structure. In this study, the testing methods for evaluation of combustible performance of finishing materials of domestic were surveyed in order to prepare the guideline of application of finishing materials in nulear power plant.

  • American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard test method PS 070-97 has been created for measuring fracture toughness of advanced ceramics. PS 070-97 includes three test methods which use beams in bending: chevron notch (CNB), single-edged precracked beam (SEPB), and surface crack in flexure (SCF). Supporting data has been collected through several Versailles Advanced Materials and Standards round robins. This paper discusses the evolution of the standard including the rationale for the choice of the three methods and the specifications in the standard. Progress on Standard Reference material 2100 which will have certified values of fracture toughness is presented.
