  • The amount of spent fuel from nuclear power plants has been increasing. An effective management plan of the spent fuel becomes a critical issue, because the storage capacity of each plant will reach its storage limit in a few years. The volume of high toxic spent fuel can be reduced through a fuel processing. Advanced Fuel Cycle (AFC) system is considered to be one of the options to reduce the toxicity and volume of the spent fuel. It is necessary to set up a test facility to demonstrate the feasibility of the process at the engineering scale. The objective of the work is a development of the safety evaluation technology for the AFC system. The evaluation technology of the AFC structural integrity and processes were surveyed and reviewed. Key evaluation parameters for the main processes such as electrolytic reduction, electrorefining, and electrowinning were obtained. The survey results may be used for the establishment of the AFC regulatory licensing procedure. The establishment of the licensing criteria minimizes the trials and errors of the AFC facility design. Issues taken from the survey on the regulatory procedure and design safety features for the AFC facility provide a chance to resolve potential issues in advance.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the quality attributes and customer satisfaction in school foodservice by distribution place and to suggest an improvement plan. The survey was distributed to different respondents (students, parents, and faculty) at different types of schools (elementary school, middle school, and high school) on September 2008 in 16 cities and provinces. The statistics were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, and ANOVA by SPSS 12.0. All foodservice quality attributes were significant different by school type and the students in elementary schools had higher scores than students in middle and high school. A comparison of scores by school type and distribution place demonstrated that elementary schools had a higher score for quality attributes and in middle and high school dining halls had a higher score for quality attributes. The overall customer satisfaction with school foodservice was higher for dining halls than classrooms for all respondents (students, parents, and faculty). For students, the overall customer satisfaction score was 69.1 for schools using dining halls and 66.4 for schools using classrooms. The overall customer satisfaction for classrooms was higher in elementary school but, this score for middle and high school was higher for dining halls. Therefore, students prefer dining halls to classrooms. Especially, as the students grow, they have an increased preference for dining halls.

  • While there exists a relatively large body of technical information for the engineered design of wood-frame buildings to resist seismic ground motions, the quantitative assessment of seismic resistance of conventional houses built by prescriptive requirements is less well understood. Forintek Canada Corp., in collaboration with other research and industry partners, has embarked on a research project to address this topic. This paper will report on the seismic shake table tests of a full-scale wood-frame building. The two-story specimen, $6m{\times}6m$ in plan, was built on the seismic shake table at Tongji University in Shanghai, China, according to Part 9 of the 1995 National Building Code of Canada and shaken uni-directionally in each of the two principal directions. Three different seismic table motions were applied at increasing peak ground motion amplitudes up to 0.40 and 0.50 g. The specimen was repaired after the above sets of seismic table motions, and successive runs were conducted for increased door openings. Measurements included specimen accelerations, displacements and anchorage forces. Static stiffness of the specimen was measured at low force levels, and natural frequencies were measured after each seismic loading stage by applying low-level random excitation. The results presented consist of the capacity spectra of the shake table tests, changes in specimen stiffness and natural frequencies with increasing seismic loading. These results and those from other recent shake table tests elsewhere will be compared with simplified engineering calculations based on codified values of strength, and on that basis preliminary conclusions will be drawn on the adequacy of the current code provisions and design guides in Canada and the USA for conventional wood-frame construction.

Data were collected from 119 of were more than 65 years in the above institutions. Chi-square test was the main data analysis method. More than a quarter of the respondents(27%) showed fairly good level of activity, while a half of them(52.9%) answered the middle level. More than 80 percent of the respondents reported that their food attitude was "Good". There were more elderly women than elderly men among the four institutions. Although the four institutions have served snacks on the regular basis, they did not provide the residents with nutritious food. Most of the residents want to have snacks between meals, but they did not perfer candy. All the subjects didn't point out any particular problem of institution. They were accustomed with their old food served by their institution. As food perferences, almost all of the respondents preferred cooked rice and cooked rice with cereals. Only the residents of private boaring home liked cooked rice with red bean. In case of soup, all of residents liked any kind of soup. The most preferred most menu was beef. But only residents of private boarding home did not like pork. All residents like any all kind of kimchi except kimchi made by radish. In preference of cooking method of a side dish, seasoned food and vegetables were the most favorable menu by the respondents. Compared to the private home, the institutions give residents effective plan to prepare meals. Even though this study tried to find differences in attitudes of dietary life among the institutions, it could not find any meaningful difference among them. Korean elders in the institutions seem to have no proper that they do not have any proper sense of evaluating their dietary life.

  • Competitiveness of small and medium companies often rely on the competency of their employees. Many employees however try to move to better environments if possible, which results in high uncertainty in maintaining solid human resources. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influencing factors of turnover intention and organizational loyalty of the early experienced, especially three to five years experienced, employees in the small and medium enterprises. A survey had been conducted using both LMX (Leader Member eXchange) and TMX (Team Member eXchange) as an effort to test the impact of strategic human resource management factors on turnover intension and organizational loyalty. It has been observed that the level of LMX is critical on the turnover intension, while the levels of LMX and TMX are positively related to the organizational loyalty. Especially significant mediation effect affects on the organizational loyalty for TMX via LMX in the serial structure. The human resource management factors become effective under the circumstances where leader and team members exchange activities are activated. These findings can be used in reducing turnover intention and increasing organizational loyalty of early experienced employees by enhancing the leadership training of middle level managers of the small and medium enterprises organizations. Besides, a set of active communication channels should be provided for the young employees so that they can share their work experiences and difficulties within the organization. The key results of this study may help the practitioners set up a management plan to maintain a low turnover rate for their organizations.
