  • The Non-parametric Analysis is powerful in data test especially for the non- normality water quality data. The data at three monitoring stations of the Tam-Jin River were evaluated for their normality using Skewness, Q-Q plot and Shapiro-Willks tests. Various constituent of water quality data including temperature, pH, DO, SS, BOD, COD, TN and TP in the period of January 1994 to December 2004 were used as dataset. Shapiro-Willks normality test was carried out for a test 5% significance level. Most water quality data except DO at monitoring stations 1 and 2 showed that data does not normally distributed. It is indicating that non-parametric method must be used for a water quality data. Therefore, a homogeneity was conducted by Mann-Whitney U test (p<0.05). Two stations were paired in three pairs of such stations. Differences between stations 1, 2 and stations 1, 3 for pH, BOD, COD, TN and TP were meaningful, but Tam-Jin 2 and 3 stations did not meaningful. In addition, a narrow gap of the water quality ranges is not a difference. Categories in which all three pairs of stations (1 and 2, 2 and 3, 1 and 3) in the Tam-Jin River showed difference in water quality were analyzed on TN and TP. The results of in this research suggest a right analysis in the homogeneity test of water quality data and a reasonable management of pollutant sources.

  • The author assessed the availability of urine reference material for proficiency test provided for laboratories in occupational health. N-methylacetamide is the biomarker of exposure to N,N-dimethyl acetamide, which was used as the substitute for hepatotoxic N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). N-methylacetamide (NMAC) urine samples of 3 different levels covering the 0.2~2 times of the exposure limit were tested. Stability test up to 180 days (0, 7, 30, 60, 180 days) at 4 different temperatures (-60, -20, 5, $25^{\circ}C$) and homogeneity test were performed for these samples. New analytical condition by GC/MSD using SIM mode (m/z 58, 59) and DB-624 column was investigated for better selectivity, sensitivity and resolution. Urinary NMAC samples showed good homogeneity for 3 levels. These samples also showed good stability up to 180 days. The data of stability and homogeneity of urinary DMAC confirmed the basis of including this item into Korean proficiency test for occupational health laboratories since 2008.

  • This paper deals with the estimation of the time of arrival (TOA) of ultra-wideband signals under IEEE 802.15.4a channel models. The proposed approach is based on a randomness test and consists of determining whether an autoregressive (AR) process modeling an energy frame is random or not by using a distance to measure the randomness. The proposed method uses a threshold that is derived analytically according to a preset false alarm probability. To highlight the effectiveness of the developed approach, simulation setups as well as real data experiments are conducted to assess the performance of the new TOA estimation algorithm. Thereby, the proposed method is compared with the cell averaging constant false alarm rate technique, the threshold comparison algorithm, and the technique based on maximum energy selection with search back. The obtained results are promising, considering both simulations and collected real-life data.

  • A test based on score statistic is derived for detecting homoscedasticity of errors in unbalanced random effects linear model. A small simulation study is performed to investigate the finite sample behaviour of the test statistic which is known to have an asymptotic chi-square distribution under the null hypothesis.

  • [ $W-15wt.\%$ ] Cu nanocomposite powders are fabricated by ball-milling and subsequent hydrogen-reduction. The compacted parts of $W-15wt.\%Cu$ nanocomposite powders were sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 1 h with various heating rates of 5 and $20^{\circ}C/min$. The homogeneity of the sintered microstructures was evaluated through homogeneity index by the standard deviation of Victor's hardness test. The W-W contiguities were calculated by using Voronoi diagrams. The sintered microstructure with the heating rate of $20^{\circ}C/min$ was more homogeneous and had lower W-W contiguity than that of $5^{\circ}C/min$. The microstructural homogeneity was directly related to the W-W contiguity. Thermal conductivity of the sintered parts with the heating rate of $20^{\circ}C/min$ was higher than that with heating rate of $5^{\circ}C/min$. This phenomenon indicates that the thermal conductivity is affected by the W-W contiguity resulting from the homogeneity of the sintered microstructure.

  • The test of transition probabilities in panel Markov chains are introduced. We deal with the hypotheses whether panel Markov chains have the same transition probabilities or not for all times. We suggest a LR test statistic for the test and its limit distribution is derived. We perform a simulation study to examine the limit distribution of test statistics when the number of the individuals are large.

  • The National Environmental Specimen Bank (NESB) has been sampling and cryogenically preserving various wildlife specimens to monitor bio-accumulations of chemical pollutants since 2010. Recently, the NESB set up a plan to develop reference materials at their facility to assure the analytical quality of and validate the analytical methods for their monitoring samples. One of the crucial characteristics of reference materials is intra- and inter-bottle homogeneity. In this study, we used ANOVA for total mercury concentrations in some samples to validate their homogeneities after milling and homogenization. We examined the intra- and inter-bottle homogeneities of two cryogenically-milled samples (Korean mussel (Mytilus coruscus) and black-tailed gull's egg (Larus crassirostris). The variations in the total mercury concentrations were not significantly different intra- and inter-bottle (mussel: F=0.74, p=0.67; gull egg: F=1.96, p=0.10). Additionally, the relative standard deviations of the total mercury concentrations showed low values (mussel: 2.02%, gull egg: 1.78%). Therefore, the cryogenic-milling process statistically proves the homogeneity of the materials of mussels and sea gull eggs for chemical analysis for total mercury.

  • This study was conducted to estimate the design flood by the determination of best fitting order of LH-moments of the annual maximum series at six and nine watersheds in Korea and Australia, respectively. Adequacy for flood flow data was confirmed by the tests of independence, homogeneity, and outliers. Gumbel (GUM), Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), Generalized Pareto (GPA), and Generalized Logistic (GLO) distributions were applied to get the best fitting frequency distribution for flood flow data. Theoretical bases of L, L1, L2, L3 and L4-moments were derived to estimate the parameters of 4 distributions. L, L1, L2, L3 and L4-moment ratio diagrams (LH-moments ratio diagram) were developed in this study. GEV distribution for the flood flow data of the applied watersheds was confirmed as the best one among others by the LH-moments ratio diagram and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Best fitting order of LH-moments will be derived by the confidence analysis of estimated design flood in the second report of this study.

  • Objectives: To study the features of appetite and dining habit according to Sasang constitution. The results of this study will be helpful to diagnose a Sasang constitution. Methods: There were 588 patients (248 men, 340 women) who answered questionnaire and were diagnosed by the Sasang Constitution Specialist at the Constitutional Clinic of Dongguk Bundang Oriental Hospital. Using the responses to the questionnaire and several statistical techniques such as homogeneity test and multiple comparison, we tried to find the characteristics of each constitution depending on its dining behavior. Results & Conclusions: As a result of the analysis of the questionnaire, Taeumin and Soyangin have a heavy appetite (p<0.01), but the appetite of Soyangin and Soeumin tends to be irregular (p<0.01). Especially, the appetite of Soeumin tends to change according to his feelings (p<0.0I). Taeumin and Soyangin eat more and faster in comparison with Soeumin (p<0.01).
